Would also like super rare mounts that drop in game from doing crazy things rather then just crowning them.

@ZOS_RichLambert not sure if you're the right person for this, but I personally believe this is a great idea, whether deviate or slightly change the OP's suggestion .

Yeah good one. As long as it's not for the music choices that are blasted by players in high populated zones.

Personally I'd prefer a whole "Bardic Guild" skill line, with instrruments as equipable "weapons" that play musical AoE songs that have some spell-like effect for a minimal cost... (the low cost compared to all other abilities would be balanced by using a darn instrument instead of a proper weapon, thus no light/heavy attacks)

And the "music spells" could be stuff like group buffs... offensive buff, defensive buff, resource recovery buff... perhaps even an "XP gained "buff... (would be neat if grinding groups went into battle with a bard playing a tune for extra XP gain...) AoE mob debuffs... perhaps even a AoE sleep/entrancement spell... etc. One tune per "spells", played with different sounds on different instruments (lute, pipes, fiddle, drums, whatever)

Any instruments could then be added to woodworking, giving them a bit more to do as well...

Interesting idea. I would like to see the music repertoire expanded.

Clarinets are thought to have been invented in the 18th century. (Some estimates have it as early as 1690.) Not really a medieval instrument.
Edit: Oh, and bonus trivia: It was invented by a guy named Johann. (If you've studied music, that doesn't provide any clarity.)

And a dwarven centurions run on soul/steam power, steam power was industrialized in 1698, and soul power was a documentary made in 2008... what is the point of my post? Not sure.

We should have flame-shooting, electric, guitars like those in the newest Mad Max film. Lol, but on a serious note. I agree that it would be nice idea to incorporate new instruments for emotes. Or instruments that actually have an effect on combat. Like an actual drum with drumsticks. I'm pretty sure that could be created. And said drums would have an effect similar to the War Horn seen Alliance -> Assault War skill line. And these drums would increase attack speed for example, as an adrenaline booster. Or perhaps increase weapon critical/speed critical.

As a musician, I love this idea. I think it'd be awesome to have user created songs. Even just a basic interface where players can simply drag and drop notes for a specific instrument onto a musical staff.

If they really wanted to make it interesting they could even allow you to import MIDI files directly into your character's "music library."

There are instrument vendors all throughout Tamriel, in AD there a instrument/carnival/bard quests. Yes, give us instruments and a music system! Please :) Get us a Bard's guild too and bard skill line.

Or we could just copy/paste LOTRO's music system.
You have to tiptoe very carefully in that specific territory. That's major lawsuit bait if it does really well.

User created would indeed open up a ton of trouble, legally speaking. Since we know for everyone who actually makes up their own song, there would be a dozend who'd just use something someone else made up... and many of those might be copyrighted materials.
    Worse with uploading options...
I can't see ZOS wanting to invite that kind of lawsuit possibilities...

As for instrument choices, well, just because something was invented in later days doesn't mean much here, as long as its within the technical scope of the world. Some fudging possible due to magic... you can't have an electric guitar, but a guitar with mystic ayleid amplifier crystals might be a possibility... (though that one would definitely be a crown store purchase ;) )

Original idea (as far as I know) and a great suggestion! I love the bard immersion and would love to be able to get secondary skills like the lute where you could actually improve your playing ability and song repotiore (sp)

Hmm. I hadn't even thought of the legal side of things. I could see how that could prevent ZoS from ever doing this regardless of whether or not it is a good idea.
