I stay with pve mostly but I think it is good to have new pvp activities instead of just cyrodiil. I mean the game itself is overwhelmingly pve cept cyrodiil now the pvp crowd can be happy in the new hovel "ic" and wont complain when more pve comes out. because they have their new content.
Shades of grey exist and being able to pvp anywhere just like being able to pve anywhere is just as valid 'if' the options were made to allow both/switching between the formats.

So what's with the binary logic then? I thought this was 2015 not 2005.

Makes perfect sense, for example PvP flag toggle ala WoW or some other mechanism that allows PvP'ers to go at each other anytime/anywhere and PvE'rs to go about their business unmolested.

On the other hand, PvE content in ESO isn't exceptionally challenging, so you can get by without really fully understanding how to get the most out of your class.

I doubt this will happen due to how many ppl could then see someone walking by in pvp mode toggle theirs in an instant and gank them as they are walking around. then turn it off and walk away. that and its alliance based for alliance based pvp I don't think the idea is to be able to o ganking your own alliance members but fighting other alliances to be the dominant alliance.
There is one mechanic that would make all of this a nonissue.
We simply need a passive mode similar to GTA 5. It can be done however ZOS wants. Personally I think it would be best to only enable passive or active from inside keeps you own that are not under attack. If it is available to use at will (more similar to the GTA method) then it will get annoying and abused. Having a passive mode for someone wanting to enjoy an area of the game, without enjoying the setbacks that getting ganked causes would be ideal.
I can also see why this woud be a bad idea though. This would allow someone to go into passive mode and do scouting without the risk of death allowing people to monitor enemy positions and relaying back to compadres. An idea to fix to this would be to only allow people in PVP areas to speak with other passives or actives.
Too many complain about broken systems, but do not offer solutions.

There's a simple solution to that problem - you can only set your PvP mode when outside Cyrodiil and Imperial City. Once inside those areas, that mode is set until you leave them. That way PvPers can do their content, PvEers can do their content, and there's no exploiting by instantly switching from one to the other and back again.
It would also result in more DLC purchases, as PvEers would have an incentive to purchase IC. By the same token, I would add some limited form of PvP content to Orsinium - an arena, perhaps - meaning the purchases of that DLC would also be maximised without the different playstyles coming into direct conflict with each other.
I'm a PVE guy. I would prefer it if there was no PVP in this game. It pulls development resources and players away from the dungeons, trials, and end game stuff. That said, Cyrodiil is still great for PVE play. Choose the right campaign, dependent on your alliance, and you can pretty much run the map uncontested. After a while you might even get used to it and feel more comfortable so you can engage in combat. I did, and I'm not having a bad time playing PVP at all. Bottom line, it's here to stay, give it a chance or your missing a bunch of good content.
