Also why don't you all make a new thread ask for it in the next Patch. The Imperial City patch is already done and just waiting for approval by this point. If they stop the Console Version Release I promise you a lot more players will leave then those you all say will leave because of the lack of text chat.
The premise still remains that text chat should have been on console.
Also what they did for the game is called platform localization. It means ZOS reworked the way players interact with the UI to better support controller input. This happens with most games going from PC to console and vica versa. Remaking it from the ground up would mean they didn't reuse anything from art assets to voice acting. That is clearly not the case. They also bothered heavily from Skyrim's UI, so more than likely those elements were recycled and touched up, rather then newly made.
Also note that through use of basic remapping programs PC can, even with out direct developer support, use a controller to play.
Just to comment on the text chat and UI pieces...
I don't understand why many feel that text chat "should" be on console and don't follow the logic of "keyboard use with a controller" on consoles. The added dialogue from ZOS on the subject for two occasions gave perspectives and reasons why their teams create the presentation that we have today. I've still not seen a logic based comment on why it "should have been included". There are lots of opinions of why and those tend to stem from prior game experiences, this on PC and or someone else's possible handicap. What is your "reason" it should have been included?
The reference to them not remaking the game from the ground up....
-The console versions in regards to the user experiences and what is seen on the screen are per ZOS crafted from the ground up....and then re-done during the 12+ month delays. Just because they chose to use some existing data doesn't exclude the reality that the console versions were built from the ground up. Development for all three was going on at the same time through many different teams. All teams pulled and excluded work for teams for their projects for the platforms they were assigned to.
You don't have to use keyboard on controller. A free or used 2 dollar keyboard from goodwill works perfect on console.you should try it it is amazing.
In context a human cannot use both a controller and a keyboard simultaneously.
-even with keypads, your functions move from controlling a character to typing
-Using a controller and a keyboard makes its more awkward and complex
For these realities...why do people feel text chat "should" have been launched with consoles?

PC Version IS getting controller support.
Are you saying that they (PC Users) have two extra hands then console users?
It seems you are since they (PC Users) will be able to (Have to) put down the controller to type on their keyboards.
People Want Equal.
As it is now the console version is a "dumbed-down" version.
I find it rather insulting everytime somebody says "you can't do text-chat on consoles"...since I have been doing it for Years.

And if you're worried about the mouse aspect thereally are wireless keyboards with a mouse attached to it, my keyboard has a mouse attached to it if I really cared I mean for the most part once you have the keyboard (and let's say it is mouseless) you really don't need the controller, and/or use the controller if necessary. Again if you aren't in favor of keyboard this whole thing is OPTIONAL and will be in the option setting if someone wants to not use a keyboard and use primarily controller.
mice are not supported on consoles in a way to allow such an option for this game on all consoles.
The whole UI was re-done for the controller. I suspect ZOS tried to release it with the same UI and it failed cert on consoles. This is why we had the long delays

Considering I still play with a controller on PC for PTS and also used a controller since 2013 it's way different.

Honestly, making sure this stays bumped so ZoS knows this is something we want before IC patch for consoles.
It's a matter of time. The anti-text crowd knows that.
It may or may not be too late , but just as optional damage numbers and all sorts of UI additions are on the horizon , which have been asked for since launch , text chat will be also.
You'll have the option for nameplates , health percentage bars , numbers etc showing on screen , and they don't want you all to have those options. But they are coming.
So will text chat , just as they are reversing their position on the other UI elements.
It's glorious to see some of the same people whining in this thread about some of you getting an option to play the way you want whining in the UI thread also realizing they have lost that battle also.

It's all in the quote, dude.
First You say "you can't use a keyboard and a controller at the same time" as your reason not to have textchat on console.
Then, when that is countered, you say "I play PC with a controller (DISPROVING YOUR FIRST STATEMENT!) and it is slower than console" as to why not to have textchat on console.
Make up your mind.
You switch your arguments to fit whomever you are replying to.
If you have an argument...stick with it!
Don't change it up as soon as it is proven wrong and try to wiggle out of it.

Lol.
I don't think so. And most of the community thinks so as well. Otherwise you wouldn't have to bump this thread from page 9.
I am not trying to be mean to you buddy, but, I asked ESO live , hey can ESO plus members have more storage space as a perk?
They answered yes the on the last show.
That is an awesome thing , first.
But secondly, it is way more niche than text chat.
I got an answer almost immediately, you get silence.
They didnt say they were adding the space immediately, but they did confirm they were thinking about it.
If they were planning adding text chat, the question has Been asked and met with annoyed silence.
They already said no.
They have had ample opportunities to say yes. Even a distant maybe.
Nothing.
And they answer every other question, yes or no.
Move on.
This behavior of dissecting zos' silence or parsing meaning out of moderation to this thread smacks of stalker behavior.
There are no hidden meanings. I'm sorry. They said no. They've moved on, they are with voice chat now, please stop start in these late night threads. Its over.
Zos absolutely answers their customers. They do it every week .
Console needs a plethora of bug fixes, new content and improvements before adding in anything so niche and gawdy.
Best of luck.

I hate the rude, overly competitive, OCD, annoying people they attract as it is (especially PVP) and if I had to actually LISTEN to the sqealy cracking voice of their impotent internet rage, I would delete the game and never look back.
To much insanity for me thanks.
You've actually got it backwards.
Text chat is where those guys will all go.
The normal regular casual crowd uses the mic.
Read the thread here and try to guess who will be clogging your text chat with dickens length posts.
Join a guild, most of the new ones are beer drinking, regular joes.

You must not have played pc? Text chat work flawless and would do so on console.

Its almost like if you weren't bumping this thread for no reason, it wouldIt's a matter of time.

No I'm saying that that console doesn't operate in the way PC does.
Offering PC controller access is waaay different that adding text chat to consoles.
Considering I still play with a controller on PC for PTS and also used a controller since 2013 it's way different.
The pace of play on PC is Aaa lllooottt slower than console also
No.
Just...no.
Ya know what....I am just going to pretend you don't exist...like several people have suggested.
You have nothing to say that is worth my time.
You, and one other person, are the exact reason I have been avoiding these forums.
Peace!
No idea why you're upset by that but best wishes...seemed to me like I was responding to your question. Did I not address something?
It's all in the quote, dude.
First You say "you can't use a keyboard and a controller at the same time" as your reason not to have textchat on console.
Then, when that is countered, you say "I play PC with a controller (DISPROVING YOUR FIRST STATEMENT!) and it is slower than console" as to why not to have textchat on console.
Make up your mind.
You switch your arguments to fit whomever you are replying to.
If you have an argument...stick with it!
Don't change it up as soon as it is proven wrong and try to wiggle out of it.
Its not switching an argument at all.. I've said for months that I play on PC with a controller and why it makes sense on PC but why it doesn't make sense on consoles.
The position that I hold (its not an argument because this isn't being considered and its not on console) is that trying to play on console with a controller, with the UI settings or limitations when the default way to communicate on consoles games is via voice is problematic to add in text chat when there is no way to play and type simultaneously on console.
ON PC when I use a controller I have the options to type AND PLay because the keyboard is in my hand whereas on console, if I'm typing I cannot play.
BIG difference there.
console if they add text chat are not adding ways to play using the keyboard so thats the point.
Its the same argument

Who is going to try to use a controller and a keyboard at the same time? Anyone that thinks they can type and move their character around at the same time deserves to be frustrated, because the notion is just dumb. You use the controller when you are moving around and doing things. You type on a keyboard when you don't need to move around. Simple.
I don't know about you, but I am quite capable of using a controller for playing and a keyboard for typing. Been doing that with my PC for years. It's not a new concept at all.
You still have not used any good reason why optional text chat should not be added to consoles. Your convenient voice chat isn't going anywhere, so why is it an issue for you if others choose to use a keyboard to communicate with others? These people already cannot communicate with you so it should really make no difference to you one way or another.
- You will not be forced to use a keyboard or to text chat.
- You will not be forced to see a text window if you choose not to.
It's like you want to force people to use voice chat or be left out of the community completely. Many reasons have already been given why some people can't use voice chat. If these people cannot communicate with others in the game, then ESO is nothing but a single player experience that will become stale quickly.

I see many are implying practical use of a feature without the reality of the limitation of use on console.
Also please understand as I've said many times...you're aren't arguing against me.
My stance just happens to fall with what exists in-game today and what was marketed all along for console by ZOS...NEVER did they present a text chat box for consoles in any video or interview publicly. There is a Playstation post where someone from ZOS was coming from a position of lacking factual and up to date information that seemingly has confused the PlayStation console community...sorry if you were a part of that which was cleared up months ago.
My opinion and points of view are not your obstacle. I've tried to involve those who do want text chat or some other form of communication on consoles to create an argument to ZOS that isn't along the lines of something they've decided against int he past.

"I see many are implying the practical use of a feature without the reality of the limitation of use on console"
What limitations? I've been using my keyboard on PS4 and PS3 for several years now.
One example is where people are saying what you are...
You're only typing on a keyboard but (in this game) you nor can anyone else type and play with a keyboard on console for this game.
-Its not practical to offer a method of communication via keyboard or keypad on console without the opportunity to play and type. Its not practical to play and then lay down the controller and pick up a keyboard to type and then go back to picking up the controller.
Another example is where some are suggesting to add a text box onto the screen.
-while there could be options to enable and disaable the box, there is no practical way to manage the window.
Yes you could use the keyboard to start typing and stop/send but that's a very poor experience.
The benefits on PC are using both mouse and keyboard with left and right clicks to link items, reply, whisper, open menu's manage the box during gameplay, change colors, highlight, copy n paste, scrolls up and down.
None of these functions are practical and even through discussion no one has been able to offer a practical way of doing this so we moved to discussing the idea within a social menu as to enable much of the controller as options to each obstacle identified.
Then some notable users began bashing the idea saying if its got to be just like PC and not within a menu. It pushed those away who do want the feature who are open to alternative ideas to get great experiences and functionality.
