Text chat is a major reason I play MMO's. I would never play or pay for one without it.
I hate the rude, overly competitive, OCD, annoying people they attract as it is (especially PVP) and if I had to actually LISTEN to the sqealy cracking voice of their impotent internet rage, I would delete the game and never look back.
To much insanity for me thanks.

I had earlier explained that text chat would lead to players trying to use it while in combat, PvP, dungeons etc.
Many pro text people tried to say text chat would not be used by people in combat, just for grouping and selling, but here you have the actual intention of players wanting text chat.
The healer wants to type his every hope and dream to a team that probably won't even have text chat enabled.
At least before, you were listening to your frustrated team and might have enabled a one way communication.
Instead, many such as yourself, will be turning off group chat and assuming text is a substitute.
Those players who were mad at you before, will now be furious, because now either everyone types mid dungeon or no one knows what the healer Is doing.
Yeah text chat would be an option, but it will force the community into texting mid dungeon to appease the. Soft eared.
Awesome.

If zos put in a giant 75 percent screen sized text chat tomorrow, there would be hundreds of threads from the same people complaining that there were no colored text options, no item linking, the mute and ignore options weren't enough to keep really clever kids from trolling very serious adults.

I can understand why many do not want to type in the middle of a battle, but I dont understand why exactly cant the healer type, and others respond with voice? Why does all in the group have to be on one or the other? Isnt it better to use both forms, depending on ones abilities? Or is it an issue that in group chat, its not possible to use more than one form of communication?
What if they just implemented zone text chat for grouping purposes and disabled it while in dungeons etc.
Win win all round maybe?

Yes, because a small text box in the corner is cluttering the screen, but a hundred bubbles of text on the screen is just fine??mrskinskull wrote: »Honestly after reviewing many of the my way or highway pro text arguments , I don't think many of these people would be happy with any solution.

Well this argument would have more credibility if you would link all the similar complaint threads coming from PC people who already have text chat.mrskinskull wrote: »The text bubble is a great solution for those of us that actually want to see a text chat solution implemented and not just shoot down any idea that might actually help all involved parties.
Zone chat done in multiple text bubbles rather than all confined neatly into one box..yeah thats a great solution alright..mrskinskull wrote: »I'm still holding out for an app, but yeah this is great news!
The app you describe makes no sense. People are looking to text someone who is currently in-game. Why would anyone need to speak to someone out of game? But even if they did, then a private message/email could be sent. No app is needed for this..

Because your healer has his hands off the controller.
Its why its illegal to text and drive.
People suck at multi tasking.
These guys are going to get their whole team killed and not even have to listen to the rage they caused.
Its going to be awesome.

Players can type with a controller. It just favors short messages. However one player can, over the mic ask "Everyone ready" and another player over the mic respond in text chat "Yes", but starting the pull.

An app would consolidate comms. Yes many people would like to chat with their guild buddies while away. Guild leaders coordinating and such.
Apps that work with games are the norm on consoles.
Even fallout 4 will have a companion app. Battlefield. Destiny etc.
An app makes more sense because most normal people will read the text chat for one if minute and see it cluttered by trolls and hate and turn it off.
Because no one wants to have to moderate a forum while playing their game.
They will just turn it off.
The app would be handy but not in their face during playtime.
Textting from a phone or tablet is just the norm.
An add on peripheral such as a keyboard , is like asking people to use a payphone.
Old fashioned and most profitable companies lean into new trends.
Also PC players have keyboards close at hand. So it makes sense.
Console players are being asked to jump an extra hoop that is at best redundant.

i kinda wish i could play the game and socialize without feeling like someone will attack me.
you know in my first dungeon i ever did, i was a healer, and still learning, but some guy just kept yelling at me, especially at the boss fight, and saying "he probably signed up for heals for faster que ue ...i mean yeah i was learning but i knew what i was doing (except maybe for the boss mechanics.
if he wasnt screaming and freaking out the entire time one, i could of realized sooner what he wanted me to do when he was trying to explain the boss mechanic.
2.....it makes everything and everyone uncomfortable and the experience unpleasent if someone yells the entire time, however is someone just types caps...well one its easier to understand, and its easier to not let it bother you...
he just wasnt yelling at me either
and people yell on the mic all the time....all the time, its unfortunate. i put my player volume to 0, which means i cant really know whats going on around me, and if i put it up, people are yelling or making really loud noises, ruining my game experience, i cant listen to any nice in game music, i cant listen to the quest dialog..nothing...and its very unpleasent to be playing a game when all these voices end up blasting towards you.
and its annoying hearing the overly competitive people in PvP or PvE just yelling at plays trying to get things done THEIR way. At least if someone capped locked it, i can still be relaxed and feel peaceful without getting uncomfortable.
Groan.
So you need the entire dungeon team to stop what there doing to type out a personal message to you?
That's way better than just picking up the mic and asking for advice.
I'm sure your whole team will love the notion of being tpk because of text chat.
They were likely frustrated by the mute player, I always gently encourage team mates to use the in box mic.
The one everyone has.
Not everyone has a keyboard or will even have text toggled on.
Its a chore to explain voice chat systems to people, text chat will likely be as layered and thus confusing.

It's not a port ZOS made the Console version from the ground up so it would not feel like a port get your fact straight.every MMO has chat do not understand why they have not put on console they have made a porting without addons, it is unplayable also given the ability to link accounts ps4 to PC and play with the same subscription as it does FF14

The premise still remains that text chat should have been on console.
Also what they did for the game is called platform localization. It means ZOS reworked the way players interact with the UI to better support controller input. This happens with most games going from PC to console and vica versa. Remaking it from the ground up would mean they didn't reuse anything from art assets to voice acting. That is clearly not the case. They also bothered heavily from Skyrim's UI, so more than likely those elements were recycled and touched up, rather then newly made.
Also note that through use of basic remapping programs PC can, even with out direct developer support, use a controller to play.

The normal regular casual crowd uses the mic.
Read the thread here and try to guess who will be clogging your text chat with dickens length posts.

Just to comment on the text chat and UI pieces...
I don't understand why many feel that text chat "should" be on console and don't follow the logic of "keyboard use with a controller" on consoles. The added dialogue from ZOS on the subject for two occasions gave perspectives and reasons why their teams create the presentation that we have today. I've still not seen a logic based comment on why it "should have been included". There are lots of opinions of why and those tend to stem from prior game experiences, this on PC and or someone else's possible handicap. What is your "reason" it should have been included?
The reference to them not remaking the game from the ground up....
-The console versions in regards to the user experiences and what is seen on the screen are per ZOS crafted from the ground up....and then re-done during the 12+ month delays. Just because they chose to use some existing data doesn't exclude the reality that the console versions were built from the ground up. Development for all three was going on at the same time through many different teams. All teams pulled and excluded work for teams for their projects for the platforms they were assigned to.

You don't have to use keyboard on controller. A free or used 2 dollar keyboard from goodwill works perfect on console.you should try it it is amazing.
If your using a keyboard why not just make the keyboard the controller then?
And if you're worried about the mouse aspect thereally are wireless keyboards with a mouse attached to it, my keyboard has a mouse attached to it if I really cared I mean for the most part once you have the keyboard (and let's say it is mouseless) you really don't need the controller, and/or use the controller if necessary. Again if you aren't in favor of keyboard this whole thing is OPTIONAL and will be in the option setting if someone wants to not use a keyboard and use primarily controller.
