Ya know, there are a lot of people who come into ESO and have played since beta (and many who just came into the game even),and they think they all know the Elder Scrolls lore backwards and forwards.Because they play this new game.Thing is,if you really want to be able to know your lore, play the other ES games and then come back and tell everyone else what you know.To whine because something is or is not "lore friendly" doesnt mean the look of some clothing or armor,or weapon. There's a whole lot more to it all.I started playing ES games in 2002 and still havent learned it all.
And for that I'm grateful.

    Well, it's mostly true. But as you well know, playing all the games won't automatically make you a lore expert. Some people don't pay attention. Others get so into their one game that they start spending all their free time on TIL. I know people starting with Skyrim who have a much deeper understanding of many aspects of lore than I do. And even among lore buffs disagreements aren't uncommon. These people complaining about lore-breaking costumes? Some of them are actually longtime TES players. There is rarely one simple answer to questions like "does it fit the visual style of a franchise spanning 20 years and multiple entries in different genres"? :smiley:

    Don't know it all, but started playing in 1995 with Arena. I currently focus mostly on Argonian lore. Maybe the loremaster could do another issue on them. The last one was really interesting. Not sure if he's done one on the ancient Yokudan homeland or not but that would be fun. Might also be fun to ask about the possibility of whether some ancient spirits from creation that were between god and mortal form might still be mucking about somehow, maybe sleeping...

    Hmm.

    I was more or less commenting on the people who brag of how they know lore so much and dont want this or that,etc.And many of them have NOT played the other games.Not all,but some of the younger crowd who didnt pick up any ES games until Skyrim.There's just so much of that here.I dont mean people who actually do know their lore and dont brag about it. I mean those who DO brag like they know it all,while dissing others for not knowing. :}

    i can agree to the point you make, the lore is deep within this universe. and they are very smart in planting seeds of lore that come out in content with games like this, truly a remarkable franchise. 2002 seems accurate for me as well

    I think so. Like i got on with Oblivion and didn't know much and when Skyrim came around I was intreged by the lore so I started to learn more be via The Shoddycast on youtube and the Imperial Library and even the lore book that came with ESO if you pre ordered the Imperial edition at PC launch. Now I know alot more lore and proud to play as a Nord.

    Fun fact when Ysgramor and the first human settlers first came to Skyrim that had pure intentions of sharing the land with the Falmer or Snow elves (before they become the falmer we know today) and having no war or blood shed over Skyrim since they just came from Atmoras civil war and even named Skyrim after there elven friends. But the snow elves didn't like how they were "re-producing" faster than they liked so they sacked the under ground city of Sathaal and only Ysgramor escaped and returned to Atmora and told the story of how the Snow Elves betrayed there trust and Genocide the Nords that came to Skyrim. Few months later Ysgramor and his 2 sons and 300 or 500 of his companions returned to Skyrim and driven the traitorous Snow Elves out of Skyrim and via right of conquest Skyrim was now the homeland of the Nordic race.

    And some people wonder why Nords don't trust elves that much.

    All I know is that Vivec, Sotha Sil and Almalexia are power hungry thieves that deserve death. And I am satisfied knowing the Nvererene wrecks those nerds. (Except sotha sil because he kills him self).

    I've played since Oblivion and while I know A LOT of lore (more than anyone that I actually talk to), I know I don't know everything. Like that tidbit about Nords having been betrayed by the Falmer. I never found that in any of the books I've read in the games. I need to take the time to look into things from the Loremaster that aren't directly stated in-game, but I just really haven't.

    Granted, it's been awhile, but I could swear Almalexia snuffed him and then tried to implicate him in all the attacks on Mournhold...

    Well a little bit of that story is from the "Night of Tears" book in Skyrim it roughly explains what happened but more info look up Shoodycast on youtube or the Imperial Library

    Hahahahaha OP thinks he's an ES scholar because he read the Skyrim stuff.

    Go ahead, explain the intricacies of the Dragon Break that took place during TES: Daggerfall.

    Or the hidden meanings behind the 36 Sermons.

    Or better yet, explain CHIM.

    Or he can try to explain what "Fishy stick" is cause you have to be a pretty die hard fan boy or lore freak to know that inside joke.

    It's fictional lore. Who cares? If it doesn't pertain to your hero, it doesn't actually matter at all. It's not there for you to learn it all, it's fluff to make the game more broad and immersive. I make *** up for my character that isn't a part of the official lore all the time. So do the developers, there were no Vampire Lords before Dawnguard. I'm not trashing people who find the lore interesting, but there's no reason to get so worked up about it because it's fake and can be changed at any time.
