What if IC never has gated access?

    What will happen to Cyrodil?

Will it become less populated and more difficult to take / defend keeps?

Will it make Cyrodil less interesting and exciting?

    ...

Can Cyrodil keep a big enough population in campaigns for it to remain a valid PvP gameplay area / option?

Without ZOS gates, the way that the players will enforce gates will be two fold.

    1. They will attempt to take all of the keeps between the enemy Alliance base on the edge of Cyrodiil and the Imperial City entrance. This will make people have to walk all the way from Cyrodiil entry to the entrance. This will make it easier for...

    2. They will attempt to gank players trying to make it into Imperial City for easy Alliance Points.

I suspect that there will be enough people bored with, or not interested in, Imperial City to be in Cyrodiil for the purpose of farming Alliance Points from the people heading there.

A lawsuit interesting.... Paying for gated access would indeed Not be allowed in my country if i remember correct. I would fill one out too :)

Even if ZOS does not gate access, the other players will. Perhaps ZOS should not offer the DLC in your location, just to be safe.

The only thing that open access would provide, is more food for the existing trolls that will be waiting in IC. People are complaining about PVE in IC now, it would be much much worse with all open access.

Access also needs to be based on a timed lockout. So when your faction loses it's IC access, you've lost that for a certain number of hours. So in addition to taking your keeps back to regain access, you also need to hold them for a certain amount of time. If you lose them before regaining access, your lockout time is increased. This timed lock out, would allow the other factions to clear out your remaining forces opening it up for smaller battles as well as other things. People are so obsessed with "I have to get this number of AP/TV per hour" that if they aren't forced to take/hold their keeps for access, they won't. Keep battles will be a thing of the past as it will have no bearing on IC at all.

We can't have access based on immediate re-entry once that faction lost access and then re-took their keeps.

There has to be a timed lockout otherwise it will be just like this, Yellow lost IC access for 5 minutes....or Red for 10... or blue for 2....

Those who wanted open access and even threatened with lawsuits are gonna have a fun time getting a potentially awesome PVP/PVE (ala Darkness Falls awesome) zone turned into almost full PVP, nice call there guys.

IC is supposed to be a PvP update. What sense does it make to lock out other factions? If you take away the second P in PvP, all you have is another PvE zone. ZoS has specifically said they do not want this to be a PvE only zone.
I love crawling around in the sewers, especially way deep down on the 3rd level. That rush you get when you see another player down there and have to decide to fight or flee. So awesome!

(No we don't have plans to make the sewers PVE only)

There you go. There was never any intention of this zone being anything other than full on PvP. If you don't like full on PvP, then maybe this update is just not for you.

Imperial City was designed to be PVP/PVE

My PVE loving, RPing way too much self is looking forward to taking all of your Tel Var stones. All PvP'ers are offcially on notice. I have leet skills forged in the fires of changing my gear and builds a million times for trials and vet dungeons. I will rekt you. (None of this is likely to happen but I am looking forward to IC and the changes in PvP that come with it. I will be so happy to actually get a few kills, I promise I won't tea bag or anything. o:) )

Come at me, Scrublord. I'm ripped.

Challenge accepted! Prepare to be dazzled by maneuvers rarely seen on the pvp battlefield.. (Because they don't work and I don't know any better)

ZOS should take a lesson from this.

All future DLC should be PvP-focused.

Gated Access! This is an outrage! Forget the silly access rules. If I pay for the new expansion, my shiny new v16 gear will be gated behind those stupid 4 man dungeons and those awful finite state machines that guard them. First I would have to defeat all those mean PvP'ers, capture their keeps, and then enter a sewer. That's unfair.

I sure hope that there isn't some IQ button/logic puzzle anywhere in the IC because that kind of "gate" has lawsuit written all over it.

Where is Lionel Hutz when I need him? Help me Mr. Hutz. You are my only hope.

I think they need to add some access. I just don't think the 6 emperor keeps will work well.

Maybe owning 6 keeps in general or something. Owning 2 of the 3 outposts or something.

These things are fairly easy for any faction to do no matter if they are outnumbered

the planned ruleset for gated acess is ownership or the 6 home keeps, this way there is a possibility that all 3 factions will get acess at the same time but for some reason ZOS decided to kill Cyrodiil listening to all the cries in the PTS forum and said they will release the DLC free for all killing all the incentive for the alliance warfare...

(seriously, there was even talk of lawsuits in the PTS forum if the DLC had gated acess based on your alliance performance in Cyrodiil, these people don't know the definition of ridiculous i guess)

    6 home will be fine.

The 6 imperial keeps won't be. I'm in DC, and in our campaign on xbox we had emperor for 12 hours in the past month. We'd never get to play the DLC.

6 home keeps would be absolutely fine though.

You have missed the point then, you see you would in fact have a much greater opportunity to gain emporer in the gated system. As soon as another alliance crowns an emporer, their numbers drop sharply as most players enter the IC, then the next alliance pushes and gains emporer and enters the imperial city with greater numbers than the previous alliance due to log offs, leaves and returns to try and gain back emporer. Then the final alliance has greatest numbers and earns their way into IC with the greater numbers.
This flow was the intended and frankly brilliant design that should stil,l IMO be implemented.
