What if IC never has gated access?

What will happen to Cyrodil?

Will it become less populated and more difficult to take / defend keeps?

Will it make Cyrodil less interesting and exciting?

If so

Will ZOS make the PvP contest areas of Cyrodil smaller to make battles easier to find?

Will ZOS turn Cyrodil into a PvE zone and have IC as the area that is fought over?

There are even more questions as to what will happen to Cyrodil if gated access is never implemented. I am against Keep control as the key but I think there needs to be something put in place so Cyrodil wont become irrelevant.. In IC battles are easier to find and get back into along with PvE. It is a no brainer what people will choose.

A - A large area where you run for awhile and may or may not see any action. Or go keep to keep or dungeon to dungeon looking for action. If you die and arent revived it can take awhile to get back into action.

or

B - A smaller area where the action is everywhere and is easy to get back into. And PvE is right there in front of you as well.

Its why the battlegrounds in DAoC were way more popular than the frontiers when they were added. It is why the instances in WAR were way more popular than the world PvP areas. It is why the smaller battlegrounds were way more popular in WoW than what their larger battlegrounds were.. People prefer easy and quick access to PvP when that option is available.

Can Cyrodil keep a big enough population in campaigns for it to remain a valid PvP gameplay area / option?

There is no gated access on PTS at the moment. As of yesterday evening, Cyrodiil was almost completely blue. Remember that the next time a DC milkdrinker whines about gated access.

... To answer the OP: I think it is going to be bad all around, though I feel that with IC having open access, it will draw all the players who use macros and exploits into IC to farm the PVErs there rather than ganking other PVPers.

In the end, it will just turn a bunch of PVErs off of IC and *iss that many more casual PvPers off so they stop going into IC as they don't want the zergs and ganking that is going to be happening there.

I think they need to add some access. I just don't think the 6 emperor keeps will work well.

Maybe owning 6 keeps in general or something. Owning 2 of the 3 outposts or something.

These things are fairly easy for any faction to do no matter if they are outnumbered

the planned ruleset for gated acess is ownership or the 6 home keeps, this way there is a possibility that all 3 factions will get acess at the same time but for some reason ZOS decided to kill Cyrodiil listening to all the cries in the PTS forum and said they will release the DLC free for all killing all the incentive for the alliance warfare...

(seriously, there was even talk of lawsuits in the PTS forum if the DLC had gated acess based on your alliance performance in Cyrodiil, these people don't know the definition of ridiculous i guess)

The 6 imperial keeps won't be. I'm in DC, and in our campaign on xbox we had emperor for 12 hours in the past month. We'd never get to play the DLC.

6 home keeps would be absolutely fine though.

Depends what server you play on.

On ps4 eu we have

Thornblade never ever has a single bar full for any faction

Blackwater is equal, normally blues hold a couple more than others during peak hours, but ep and ad always take everything overnight and we're left with a couple keeps at best.

Azuras is mainly ep, with ad coming second and DC last by a mile.

All the other campaigns? They ALL belong to ep, most of them have 2-3 red bars with zero of DC and ad. The entire map is red.

So quite literally, I may be able to get into ic once every few weeks that DC manages to take over stuff in bwb, that's it.

This is what happens to a B2P game. They should've released Imperial City when the game was under subscription. This is now flawed game design at work imo and I am considering holding off buying IC for a bit to see how it works out.

Those who wanted open access and even threatened with lawsuits are gonna have a fun time getting a potentially awesome PVP/PVE (ala Darkness Falls awesome) zone turned into almost full PVP, nice call there guys.

Besides many games have gated features where you have to achieve level or other requirements to unlock them.
Some even have features behind a paywall!
So the law thing is just silly.

so "gated access" and "free walk in" or w/e you guys are calling it. from what I've read..

Gated access would mean: Your faction would have to have X number of keeps to even to be able to enter the IC area, or would it mean you need a keep connected to it?

walk in would mean you can just go to that bridge where monsters are currently fighting and walk into the Imperial City?

in my mind i would have thought more people would like to be able to just walk into the city? but why is this not the case? i read zerg/gank presumably the worry is people camping the entrances so your alliance cant enter?

where as gated to my mind un does all those nice modifications to get rid of buff servers, because instead you just get IC servers. And there would be no pvp in IC because no other factions could enter? isnt there some currency you can only get by killing other players. surely this wouldnt work as a concept?

I also read someone mentioned zergs running around IC if it was free access...surely in either case you would either control the map to the same effect?

on the other hand if gated access means you would ahve a permanent alliance Hq that cannot be taken in IC and you can always spawn at then that seems like an okay option. short of a gank fest outside of it.

any way if some one can explain to me what everyone is talking about id be gratful

Next they will want to fill a lawsuit because ZOS released a new DLC and locked the new items behind boss drops and chests... what's the diference between this example and the locked IC based on keep ownership? none at all, some people realy don't have a notion of ridiculous

IC is supposed to be a PvP update. What sense does it make to lock out other factions? If you take away the second P in PvP, all you have is another PvE zone. ZoS has specifically said they do not want this to be a PvE only zone.

The only Thing that could Balance Cyro and IC, would be, remove AP from IC, buff the AP Sets in Cyro to v16.

To directly answer the topic. Do you see those Cyrodiil pop locked bars on all three factions on the Azura's Star (NA-PC) campaign? Yeah, not one of them will be out fighting for keeps. They will all be inside chasing Tel Var stones.

My PVE loving, RPing way too much self is looking forward to taking all of your Tel Var stones. All PvP'ers are offcially on notice. I have leet skills forged in the fires of changing my gear and builds a million times for trials and vet dungeons. I will rekt you. (None of this is likely to happen but I am looking forward to IC and the changes in PvP that come with it. I will be so happy to actually get a few kills, I promise I won't tea bag or anything. )

I think the points have all been beaten to death, by myself included.

IC is launching with open access.

My conclusion is IC will be full, and Cyrodiil will be empty.

But we will all have to wait and see what really happens. ZOS has "listened", and this is their "plan".

Well at least with IC open access, all of us who wanted to do the PvE quests and dungeons in Cyrodiil will have little if any problems doing so since everyone will be in IC.
