    I don't understand the point of having separate 3 piece sets at all, rather than having jewelry/weapons on 5 piece sets.

    Having really strong bonuses on this set doesn't fix the underlying problem with the itemization this patch, you need two five piece sets with jewelry and/or weapons and a monster set to get the maximum number of set bonuses, since none of the new sets have either jewelry or weapons there's no efficient way to gear a character except for master weapons, also amounts to a big nerf to DW and S&B and disincentivises the use of any of the new gear by 12 slot builds.

    Buffing the new sets seems to be the approach they've taken to dealing with the fact that you give up two set bonuses, including a five-piece, to use them.

    It's possible they could achieve balance that way but why? It just destroys build diversity.

    This is a terrible decision unless the jewelry is BoE. This is supposed to be a PvP based update yet the more and more read with this update I feel like I will be grinding PvE 90% of the time.

    I would prefer finding upgrade pieces that could be attached to current jewelry to improve it in power, utility and aesthetics.

    Wait, there can be no power or utility because of blatant omission of jewelry crafting.

    Viable build variance is not the goal here.

    Here's a new carrot, which is difficult to obtain, and will be the best carrot you can get, and the only carrot you should use if you wish to be competitive, until we introduce the new extra special carrot later. Dev rinse, player repeat.

    Well "Castle" posted in the patch note thread that jewelry will be BoE so at least that is a positive.

    For most people, a DLC is not only about new contents. It's new contents along with character progression, and for instance with a better gear. If it were only about new contents, most people would buy 1 DLC, maybe 2, and probably not more. This is especially true in MMOs, where our characters "live" into a parallel world named a game. As for in real life, you would not like to stall, would you?

    In short, when a gamer starts a new DLC, he expects to discover a new zone, a new series of quests, and new opportunities to improve his character.

    By the way, this is also the reason why a new CP cap for each DLC makes sense (character progression).

    Some people in this thread have raised another question: build diversity through gear diversity. Maybe there should be some way to find improved versions of older sets, or some way to craft improved versions of them. But this would probably require an extension to the current crafting system, like the addition of new special and rare ingredients to build a piece of improved equipment. Could be an idea for the growth path of the game.

    These set items will all be BoE, Purple, and limited to useful traits, so it will be pretty easy to just trade for the ones you want.
    Eventually people will have extra's that flood into the broader market and even people who never step into IC will have a chance to buy therm at a reasonable price.

    To be completely honest, MAX level gear SHOULD be OP. The ONLY real reason why people are complaining is because EXISTING armor may not scale to v16 to give us options & even if it does scale then it SHOULD also scale damage/set bonus wise to be able to compete with the new gear.

    Gear sets should stay with the content/level they are released at. It is the only way to make new content relevant when it comes to character progression. The system they have currently and are attempting to break is a system that shouldn't have been implemented in the first place.

    For those that are new/newer to this game, you missed when AA, HRC, and the respective Hardmode versions came out. People went in with crafted gear and stuck with crafted gear for the longest time just because it was only a sidegrade or because it wasn't a big enough upgrade to warrant using more mats to upgrade the dropped sets compared to their already Legendary improved sets.

    I for one am glad for this change and hope it carries forth into each new DLC they put out. It is a really good feeling knowing that there will be a sense of progression past clearing an instance the first time or crafting complete new sets day one of new DLC and not playing again until the next new thing is out.

    the upside is that no longer will the measly amount of viable armor sets with jewelry pieces be so overvalued and overused

    Jewelry sets also have all weapons to make the 3pc set.

    The main issues is the lack if weapon and/or jewelry pieces from normal sets. Just give some sets a ring, some sets a necklace and some sets a weapon piece. That would open up build diversity and actually give players multiple viable gear setups.

    If sets are to stay at the level they were originally intended then that causes MANY new sets to need to be created each level increase. This is a lot of extra man hours to create a decent quantity of new sets when they could just easily bump the levels on a few older sets. Also creating new sets means they have to come up with new & interesting abilities for them which can also lead to new bugs.
