Super Rare!

So I was thinking about how to make loot hard to get, everyone wants this but people complain about ti when it becomes ridiculously low drop rates even though this is one solution to what they asked for.

Well I have thought of another solution; We all know that there are two modes to dungeons normal and vet, but what if there was a a third mode, an perma-death mode!

This mode would destroy the tedium of doing the same dungeon a million times to get the good stuff as it would have access to super rare unique and valuable materials and gear at a ridiculously high drop rate.

But if the team fails to complete it or they die too many times there characters are destroyed!

The big advantages:

1: High risk high reward.

2: The mechanics of perma death make some items super rare/valuable.

....or they could just implement a token system so you can at least get the gear by running the dungeons a lot. As it is currently, you could run a vet pledge 200 times and never get a helm.

Maybe the dungeon would lock on a wipe for a few days but lose your character all together? Just to get booted by faulty server or lag or random disconnect or UI freezing and not being able to do anything... no way Jose'

*Thinks back to his last VCoH run... where the game crashed mid boss fight, causing him to die.*

*Thinks about all those random crashes the game has been suffering since the last wave of nvidia drivers went live.*

*Thinks about the idea of permanently losing a V14 in full golds with over 10k achievement points, and roughly 200k worth of upgrades.*

    Yeah, shank that.

Only if they are forced to twitch their dungeon run so we can see their faces when their characters get deleted.

You cant think of anything better?

24h or 48h lockout from the dungeon or something similar.

It actually wouldn't. Dungeon lockouts promote playerbase toxicity. Right now, if you get screwed on a dungeon run you're only out a little time. Worst case, some derp could screw up the gold key, meaning you have to drop and redo the dungeon.

Lockouts for an entire week? You would see players blaming each other. Your access to dungeons would get a lot more exclusive, because if one person screws up, then everyone's out of luck. Meaning no one gets anything and has to wait out the timer. Meaning, you'd be left rolling the dice on pugs to see if someone ragequits or if you can actually complete, while the dungeon runners who can actually nail it, aren't going to want to bring newbies along unless they absolutely have to. Because why risk picking a player who can't hack it or will rage quit on the third wipe.

    It's not a good system.

How about instead of losing your character that you paid money for and spent hours building, they just ban your account.

I think the better thought would be a USB tazer that is synced with ESO and if you fail you get tazed and you are incapacitated for 15 minutes, minor foaming of the mouth. Just a little shock so you can the dungeon more serious.

    Jk? :)

I think considering they have implemented a PvP token system for IC, we will almost certainly get a PvE based token system with Orsinium.

Instance locks leads to a way to reset instances. In DCUO they're called "replay badges"....and yes, they cost real money.

People spam replays to reset instances on release, and they whine and complain that they have nothing to do.

However, DCUO has implemented a system that increases the odds of getting a rare drop the more instances you run without getting one. Something like that would be more beneficial in my view.

Some lucky folk will continue to be favored by the RNG gods and get their drops every run...and the more unlucky will find they get a drop at least every X runs of an instance.

Independent of everything else, that is a good mechanic to consider.

literally the worst idea i have seen on this forum other than the "hardcore 1 life server"

perma death is horrible in mmos like this, it takes way to long to build up a character to even do end game stuff just to lose it once.

What some people are forgetting from my original post is that this would be an option the other normal and veteran dungeon modes would still be there for those who can't bear the risk.

How many people would actually take the risk?

Would it be worth the development time / cost? What would be in it for ZOS?

I for one would take the risk with some of my characters.

    Whats in it for ZOS?

Well when peoples characters get killed they would roll alts.

It adds another option, more options=more fun.

Many people just roll alts to get champion points, this would give the ones that are already at V14 another purchase.

It would inspire you to join proper guilds and devise plans and make friends and people you can rely on.

To me, i don't see any downside aslong as it is only an additional option.

Perma-death? With the bugs and still issues with extended playtime glitch kicking you out every 1-2 hours, no thanks. they need to add a token system similiar to PvP where you get so many points for every boss downed and add the loot to a vendor. This will make the loot drops not so random and make sure you actually get the gear you want instead of the RNG crap that drops now.

FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

I could possibly see the short term allure...but I suspect that once the reality set in, people would avoid it. Well, maybe not the super-hardcore minority.

Can you imagine having a character who you had invested real world money in (in the way of motiffs, exp. potions etc.) being deleted due to somebody making a mistake mid-instance?

But honestly, I can't still can't see what's in it for ZOS. People creating alts etc doesn't necessarily equate to more money going to ZOS....and I suspect that that's what they're really interest ed in.

    Better than that, somebody else.

Honestly, I get the feeling that Tiebearion has never been in a vet dungeon before, or had a wipe where, honestly, it was not your fault. Someone else went down, and everyone else followed.

I've been in a lot, too many times, i'd rather just run them a few times and get my character destroyed than do what I have been and brain lessy run it over and over again with no risk, just grind.

I don't really understand what you mean when you ask what's in it for ZOS, just like any gameplay and content it just adds to their game.

I guess one thing that they could directly use would be something like "new and innovative perma death mode dungeons" advertising.

I mean, what would ZOS get in return for some sort of perma-death function? I suspect that they're interested in money

And the return would have to be greater than the investment. Would they spend thousands (pure guess there) to create something that maybe a few hundred people would use?

Well yeah if only a tiny bit of the population did use it, it would be pointless, but I still reckon it would be atleast 20%.

It would be a big gamble but there are alot of people who love gambling.
