Dawnbreaker needs to be toned down.

I believe the first tick of the DoT applies instantly, making the upfront damage of the ability quite high. I routinely get hit by 11-15k DB crits in Cyrodiil right now.

This skill needs to sit on a fine line where using it against a NON-undead/vamp player feels underwhelming, but using it against an undead/vamp does more damage than an alternative ult.

It needs to punish vampires, but it needs to be lackluster against humans. Right now, it just hurts really badly no matter who you hit with it.

Also, being able to animation cancel the cast is a nice skill mechanic, which I'm fine with, but it removes much of the counterplay to the ability. If DB is going to be so unavoidable, then its damage needs to be reigned in.

    Oh, and 11-15k is the routine hit. Get hit by a glass cannon sorc with several hundred champion points, and you can see 20k+ death recaps.

    Also, it's one of the few ults that hits through the routine Cyrodiil lag freezes, making it abnormally strong in PvP when playing in raid groups.

    ZoS, please address this. :(

    I'm thinking you posted in the PTS section by accident. It's not hitting that hard on PTS due to overall dmg nerf.

    The Dot becomes instant when you animation cancel,if all DOTS worked this way they would actually be worth using but that is just my opinion.

    The DoT is always instant, whether you animation cancel it or not is irrelevant. It's a bug with the skill.

    That bug only happens on Dawnbreaker of Smiting, not on Flawless Dawnbreaker.

    And the skill needs fixing, not nerfing like the OP suggests.

    I agree that pure souls shouldn't suffer so much damage from it. Even though I never fealt threatened by Dawnbreaker as a non-vampire. Sorcerers always try to execute me with it, pathetic tactic always. Never kills me.

    However, it HAS to stay strong against Vampires, or there is no real trade off. Vampire gain benefits, but this should come with a risk and this risk is Dawnbreaker. I think it works fine.
    Normal players usually survive it, and also Vampire players survive it too often. In fact, I killed more normal players with it than vampire players, because this undead passive is just too high in the clouds.....

    I would increase the damage of Dawnbreaker against Vampires :D

    Yep... One time I was on Live in a fight where I didn't even really see the animation, just every now and then I'd get this insane immediate damage out of nowhere and I'd wonder what was going on... until I saw that it was Dawnbreaker of Smiting indeed. I wasn't even a vampire.

    I'm a vampire and dawn breaker hits hard. It's all part of the challenge though, with the fighter's guild passives, the scary red circles and the new prismatic weapon enchants. Plus, you get those exhilarating IN YOUR FACE moments when you dodge somebody's dawn breaker and then soul harvest them in return. Those moments are why I play this game.

    I should add though that mostly I never see the breaking of the dawn coming. Just on the death recap lol With lots of animations going off you can miss it.

    Dawn Breaker does indeed hit hard...but that is the least of my concerns.....

    I just want negate magic to, you know, ACTUALLY silence people and not have it be breakable......that is the STUPIDEST thing ever........it is supposed to surpress the ability to cast magick INSIDE of the bubble.....

    Or if you are CC'ed in the bubble, breaking out of that cc stops the silence.....if you run in to the bubble with CC immunity on, it doesnt silence you...... @ZOS_RichLambert Want to take a look at everything mentioned here (OP as well as Negate magic)

    Kinda of side question here but I notice if I die to dawnbreaker the death recap will say dawnbreaker with a reasonable amount of damage immediately followed by the name of the morph with huge damage. Why is that?

    Age old problem here, if you tone down dawnbreaker for PvP, then you make it useless against those hoards of undead you meet in PvE.

    I think all that is needed here is smiting not to have impact + first tick kind of like fire trebs were doing at the start of 1.6 which got hot fixed.

    Same exact issue is present in 1.6 - just no hot fix.

    It's not really glass though, with all the shield stacking & bolt escape it's more like...

    I want it to hurt against undead players, maybe a 9k DB in 1.7. That's punishing but not one shotting anyone. However, it needs to be underwhelming against human players, maybe 5k damage. That's a couple thousand under class burst ults. It would be plenty strong in PvE while not destroying people in PvP without any setup or...well...skill. lol

    Why hotfix when you promise a patch a month away? Why hotfix when you don't even acknowledge things?
