Hello,

What is the difference between having 4 Heavy + 1 Medium instead of 3 Heavy + 2 Medium ?

Lower Armor Rating for both physical and spell resistance and more effectiveness from Medium Armor Passives with less effectiveness from Heavy Armor Passives.

Well a lot. The heavy armor will have more defense. The passive abilities for the sets of armor differ quite a bit as well. Passive abilities that count how many different peices you have and there are passive abilities that are only active if you have 5 peices of that specific armor type (heavy light medium)

Nothing cause armor and spell res is useless cause players have 50%+ penetration making that high armor rating totally useless.

Wait there is a difference LA offers shield stacking which is the best defense in the game and MA offers infin dodge rolling which is second to shield stacking while HA offers anything better cause again armor and spell res is totally useless.

I asked because I saw builds recommending 3 Heavy and 2 Light for example, so some passive works only with 2 items other with 3 ... it's not related to a multiplier factor for armor.
