Suggestion: Toggle View Greaves On/Off

  • DigitalHitmann
I dont know if this has been brought up before or not, but I would like to see the option of Toggle Greaves on and off be added to the options menu such as Toggle Helm on and off. I have a certain look that I want my character to have that, so far atleast, I can only achieve by not wearing greaves which gives me a huge penalty to over all armor rating as well as any affixes tied to that piece of armor. I dont think I should be penalized for wanting my character to look a certain way, much like others who dont want their helms to show.

Obviously this is my first week playing the game, so I dont really know the in's and out's yet. Is it possible to achieve this without such a huge penalty in the end game? Or do I have to wait for a costume to be effective.

Im kind of going to the "Xena" look, if anyone was wondering. (Everyone whose 25-40 should know who Xena is...)

    11873764_968540573188953_3232236845922694856_n.jpg?oh=77e35457576c9432a153cb4fdbd28593&oe=564BBCD2

If your character doesn't wear any greaves, then why should your character benefit from such? From a roleplaying point of view, I don't see why you should gain bonuses from an item you don't wear.

Im saying the reason I dont wear any is because of the cosmetic look and in turn I receive a deficit to armor rating. I dont do it by choice. I do it because all the pants are ugly ive gotten so far.

Not sure where this came from. I thought we were talking about greaves and cosmetic / armor rate value.
So if you choose to hide your helm option you shouldn't get the stats either correct ?

Exactly what im trying to get at.

lol in all seriousness, I'd kind of like it if there was a toggle to show or not show each armour piece. The only ones I'd be likely to use are helmet (which already has a toggle) and shoulders, and even then only on a couple of my characters, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be available for each piece.

Actually, I'd also like to be able to hide my horse/tiger armor.

    It just looks goofy.

Correct. If you don't have a helmet on, you don't have a helmet on, and thus swords hit your head... Some people...

What blows my mind is that there are people who claim to be role-players who state that they hide their helmet for role-play. Well, you've just role-play failed because a true role-player would be "in their character's shoes", so to speak, and would make a judgement call (i.e. do I want to wear this piece of gear? No, okay well I'll work around the cons, because I like the pros).

Yes. It's not at all possible that they could have been basing costumes in a show set in a mythical version of ancient Greece on actual armour styles from ancient Greece.

What blows my mind is that people are so childish to not look at something a certain way from another players perspective and would rather just insult them instead. This is the internet I guess, but some of you should grow the *** up. Especially those of you who claim to have kids and a family. *** poor examples youre setting.

This discussion is about a toggle for a game. Keep your personal *** out of it, and stop trying to drag people into it by griefing. You can say you dont like my suggestion, thats fine. I dont care. It lends to the constructive criticism against it, but dont insult me, because you dont like my suggestion. Just say you dont like it and why you dont like it, and move on.

I shouldn't have to suffer a decreased armor rating just because I am vain & hate the way almost all the shoulders look...
or have to give up shoes to look like I'm wearing ordinary loose leg trousers...

    TOGGLE!

    & isn't running off-level domens naked already a thing?

i agree, i toggle hide my helmet just because i hate how helmets look and for the fact whats the point of creating a toon to look good if youre just gonna hide it behind armor, which is why i find it silly they offer body paint/scars since youre 99% of the time never gonna see or notice them.

I would be in favor of a toggle for each. It gives more flexibility to allow players to aesthetically play as they want. It does everybody else no harm.

While I tend to run with helmet toggled off and would probably stick to that, I can respect others wanting more diversity.

Consider the slippery slope of even the toggled helmet.

Technically, if we are going to count hiding visibility of a slot as non-armor, then costumes should be counted as non-armor. Wearing the servant's outfit? It should be treated as no armor and adjust active armor passives appropriately.

I wouldn't mind if they made every piece of armor toggable, especially left/right shoulder & left/right arm piece. Players get naked in game anyways. Then again it would probably make the armor design team mad cuz all their hard work would be for nothing if a player just hides it all.

I am with the OP here.I mean,if I am running in the desert doing quests, wearing my best armor, which is usually heavy,it seems pretty hot to me.Sweaty hot.And pretty out of place.I was actually looking for pirate gear in Port Hunding. Sometimes it really isnt appropriate wearing a full set of heavy armor.

And older TES games had magical "shields" that reduced or eliminated damage. (Wasn't there a reflect, too, in Oblivion? Maybe Morrowind, too?)

I think @Tholain may have solved the problem. You have armor ... and you have magic. If you want to argue your steel bikini is magical then let's see your magic. You should get NO armor protection for wearing NO armor. If you wear a cloth shirt, you shouldn't be as protected as if you were wearing steel or leather armor. Enchant it or use magic.

If you're wearing a chiffon shoulder cap that only barely covers your generous backside, which itself is only covered by a the thin strap of a pink rubber thong, then it's all magic, baby. Let's see what you got.

And if you're not wearing greeves - and I see your naked legs in PVP - then I should get to go for the leg shot.
