i had two guys follow me around taking all the nodes they could from me.
i started a fight and some guy ran up and took both, not leaving ether. ok cool.
they follow me for thirty minutes...really? i like how i cant do a single thing about it ether. i had to quit farming just to get away. i know its the way of the game, and fine take a node from me once, but follow me and take 70% of the nodes for almost 45 minutes? seriously? i deal with people running in and snatching crap all the time, and i get it. but its old news.

there is no courtesy left anywhere i swear. i cant even report him/her/it

No doubt there are some decent folk out there, sadly not seeing them around at the moment."

I think that is the exception to the norm, at least I hope it is. Etiquette should be, wait to see if the person who aggro'd mobs is going to harvest; if they don't, fair game. At least, that is what I do...

Taking the node you are heading towards is weak. Anything ahead is fair game. But I'm older so maybe my morals are out dated.

I think most players are generally quite courteous when it comes to such things, but there are indeed some who exhibit no regard for other players. Resource nodes are everywhere; there's no need to deliberately follow people and go around snatching them out of spite. Treasure chests I could understand--those are fair game--but nodes? I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Unfortunately, the only thing I can recommend is finding a good, sparsely populated spot to farm nodes in order to minimize the odds of encountering rude players. Whenever you seem to be having a run of bad luck, just immediately leave that area and go somewhere else where you're less likely to be disturbed. Spare yourself the frustration; let those kind of people bother someone else. They're not worth it.

Hope you have better luck in the future :(. Not everybody is like that; sure, I've run into a few people who enjoy spoiling others' fun, but I've also met a lot of really nice players in this game.

I don't agree. If a chest is behind the mob I'm killing, people should back the heck up and let me get my chest.

This happens to quite a lot actually.

Are you one of those people running circles in upper craglorn or coldharbor trying to get expensive/rare drops for personal profit?

because therein lies your problem, you arent the only one with the same idea.

Depends on what road you want to take. A lot of people nowadays do not understand that civility is also a form of social protection. You get what you give.

In the case where people follow you around, remember that monsters have AoE attacks. The hyenas only get fed if they can keep the lion distracted. Run them into a group of mobs. Aggro and run through them.
Due to a typo in the system, the area was accosted by the Daedric Prince Moar Lag Brawls.

Added to which, people know where the nodes are. In Upper Craglorn people tend to follow the same harvesting routes and inevitably compete for the same nodes.

The OP says he's heading towards nodes being followed by other farmers, from their point of view he could be the one who is interfering with their farming.

Though it is particularly annoying to be followed round by VR1s who can't engage the mobs and wait for you to do so before stealing "your" node...

I've had this happen somewhat rarely but it does happen. Last night I was fighting a mob that was guarding a chest in a level 45 area and while I was attacking them a level 10 tried to sneak in and snatch my chest. I tried to run the mob into him but they only focused on me. I went ahead and killed the mob.

Luckily for me the level 10 player failed to open the "intermediate" chest and I was able to get it. He tried to follow me after that so I aggroed 3 mobs and let them swarm him...problem sloved

Log out and/or leave the area. Best way to deal with those jerks.

If everyone did that they would have no one to follow around and quit themselves.

This person could be harassing you intentionally or it could be coincidence that you're farming at the same place and time. Farming routes are pretty common. I run into people all the time who happen to be farming the same route as me. Especially in coldharbour.

I don't necessarily agree with treasure chests either. If you see someone taking the chest, then be on your merry little way towards another.

One time I had opened a chest, ran out of bank space, and when I went to make room, a twerp that was watching me snatches my loot.

Last night I had the same situation were I was out of space and the person was just waiting for me to leave.. I decided to sit there to wait for them to leave. When it looked like they were out of view I let go of the unlocked chest. Before attempting to clear my inventory, I checked to see if anyone was around, and for sure they were on the other side and bee-lined right back to the chest.I was able to reopen it in time and wait for a guild member to come take it for me.

They were probably just a couple young kids who thought it was funny to do. The best thing in those cases is to wait it out. Prop up a chair and sit and wait for them to leave. Their ADD will get the better of them and they will run off within 5- 10 mins or so. If that doesn't work, go to a wayshrine and leave the immediate area, just not the zone.

Whoever clears the mob around the chest or resource has first shot at it. If there is no mob, then whoever gets there first gets it.
  • cajun_duck
I am in the boat of first come first serve. If you get to a node first, it's all yours. If you get to a chest first it's also yours with the exception of you running out of lock picks or can't pick it.

Im not sure where you farm for mats but I have never had problems like that, I can run around in craglorn for hours without meeting a single person in my little trip and if I do its normally some lowbie trying to get to a delve or something. And if someone were to follow me after a few min I would just go to like Malabal tor or reapers march to grind, would never stop my grind just change location, not like they would know where you went.

Here's my personal set of "node ethics"

    1. If a node is out in the open, first one there gets it. If someone is "following me" there should be no chance he gets there first unless he's faster. If he's faster, he should be in front of me, not behind. I've received rage tells from people after I win a footrace to a node. I'm not sure about the logic in that. Had they gotten there first, would they have expected the same rage from me?

    2. If a node/chest is guarded by mobs I usually skip it and move on because I don't want to deal with any drama. Not worth my time to clear out mobs for a node when another one is usually a few seconds away. If I notice someone fighting mobs near a node/chest, I will not take it. If I don't notice them fighting and take it by accident, I won't feel too bad about it.

Upper Craglorn was my first thought.

If I even see another harvester, I'll alter my route and skip that section. I won't start fighting any mobs when others are around either, unless there's nothing there. Then I'll start a fight just to troll any would be ninja. I've heard some support skills like mutigen will tag the other player in combat so they can't steal your node, but I haven't tried this. Mainly, I'll try and run Upper Crag during off peaks hours if I bother at all.

Ninja looting a node while I'm fighting the mob that was guarding it makes me wish player killing was a thing in PVE. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, it gets my blood boiling.

A lot of the stuff like chests and crafting resources does respawn every few seconds to a minute. I have this issue occasionally, so I stand there run around and ninja it myself to make up for it after it respawns. Yes it's annoying and probably highly maddening, but I recommend doing the same thing. Keep your finger on the key perhaps to ensure you get the loot.

I also must regretfully admit I have ninja'd loot from another player once and felt really bad about it afterwards. I did attempt to find the player to apologize and give them what's rightfully their's, but couldn't find them anywhere. I try to be a better, more respectful, and friendly player from now on.

Correction: I wait till whoever gets it finishes then I wait for my turn till it respawns then quickly hit the key.

It's no excuse to be a jerk, but nodes are a "first come, first serve."
If somebody is being a jerk to me when I'm trying to farm, I'll just go elswhyr.
Farm somewhere/something else or do some quests.
Best to just let him be a jerk, and when jerk gets bored, it'll eventually quit.
