Console: Should text chat be implemented with the IC patch?

Going on month two without logging into this game or spending any money due to no text chat. This game feels half 'butted' and incomplete without it. Such a shame, because this could have been an all time great.

I should get my wife to login , hit up the middle of town asking a couple basic questions , run it through the streaming capture card , and post the resulting video and full audio.

Bets on how long it takes before the C bomb and *** threats are made ?

    Joyous area voice chat.

This was the reason why I was afraid to try voice chat at first, because it's the same thing everywhere else, and with text chat, at least it can take them months or even years to find out I'm female (no reason to mention it before, probably), and I'm treated with respect.

I finally worked up the courage some weeks ago (before my microphone got messed up), mostly out of frustration, to suggest to my PvP group we go take the Keep resources first, since we were getting annihilated by the defenders. I got several sexist remarks, couple of perverted IMs, and even a "we don't take orders from women lol go make me a sandwich".
Kinda glad my microphone broke. I play to enjoy myself, not to be harassed by idiots. At least with text chat, my gender is unknown or at least assumed to be default male, which works for me.

Forgive me if there's one of these buried somewhere.

We consolers simply require this, ZOS. Are you aware that PvP group organizers have devolved their recruitment strategy to repeating, "stand by me for an invite" at objectives? Are you aware that people queue for dungeon groups never intending to communicate with the group AT ALL? The current system is game breaking.
I'm asking all of you to make this poll a clear, overwhelming demand for immediate implementation of text chat. We require this and we WILL NOT get it without concerted action on this forum. Thank you in advance

We already have voice chat? Whats the point of this?

It's such a waste of dev time... Just get on the mic and talk.

Honestly, why would you want text chat? I'm genuinely curious.

you do know that the VOIP is proximity based right? and that this is an MMO? text chat is pretty much needed i mean this isnt Call of Duty or Battlefield

If they ever fix the loading issue so I can play again I’d love text chat. When playing crown in Cyrodiil I find that I spend half my time spamming general area chat to keep my group filled. Not to mention it is nearly impossible to communicate effectively with other group leaders. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t want to put out the effort to run a group due to the lack of a good communication tool. I’m fine with the people that don’t like chat having an option to minimize the chat screen but we should all at least have the option. A vote no on this forum is basically saying I don’t want to be able to have a good tool for communication.

Here's just a few points to keep in mind about ESO and text chat.

▬ ESO is an MMORPG not an FPS. The maps are huge compared to an fps map and as such proximity VOIP is not optimal.

▬ On the topic of VOIP. People...can get a bit annoying. The last thing anyone should hear is someone scream at their parents or in the very worse case someone discovering their bodies.

▬ Keyboards. Ah yes the argument of "Keyboards aren't supported on console." In truth they ARE supported (I use one for FFXIV on my PS4.)

▬ Trading, grouping, and asking for help. Without text chat these things are kind of missing from the social part of an MMO. Sure you could go onto a site and post what you're looking for but the whole point of being on console is so you don't need to use the PC. If going you want to use a site to look for a group why not just play the PC version?

▬ The social aspect of the game. Without text chat the console version became what is basically a single player game think Goat MMO Simulator (even this has a text chat even though you cant type in it!)

If I forgot anything feel free to add the devs really really really need to look at this from our viewpoint the actual players and not a focus group or current trends.

Also this is the keyboard I use on my PS4

    Ge5x3b7.jpg?1

It is a full sized keyboard for a PC. It works just fine weather I'm on the PS4 web browser or playing FFXIV on my PS4 (which I'm currently doing)

and here is an amazon listing for it

After actively following this topic since release and posting a few ideas here and there, this has been my take on it all...

By ZOS not responding people are fizzling out over the subject and becoming less and less prevailant on the forums... They are quick to moderate, lock, delete the topics but not acknowledge them at all. This all APPEARS to be their way of deferring to a later date when people leave it alone

It's more then annoying how quick the moderations come out in the various topics but not a yes or no to the subject...

With my b past experience with mmos, when the devs are silent about a topic it typically means they did not plan for the community to act in the way it did (ie just about everyone wanting text chat) and has no current plan in resolving the issue.

I hope in this case that is wrong but I honestly believe text chat is on the back burner as far as priorities goes for them.

Their "presence" in these topics shows that it's not even on a burner which is disheartening...

Text would only enhance the game in a lot of people's opinions as seen by these numerous threads, hence why most of us are pushing for it and providing ideas but I'm feeling spent since it's apparently going nowhere

Yeah, theres barely enough bandwidth and ram for the game already.

Im sure adding a second redundant communication system won't cause twice the lag drops.

Hey guys, for those who are upset about not having text chat on console should check out ESO's next live episode on twitch -- 8/14 at 4:00PM EDT

If you don't have a twitch account be sure to make one so you can post a message to them and ask them about text chat!

This kind of internet behavior exists only in ESO area chat, right?

Geez. Its like the rest of the internet chat rooms and forums are kind and in no way mysoginist except for this narrow little slice of jerkingdom.

I sympathise, with your wife's situation, but my guild has several female players who as far as I can tell are just.another member.

Yes some people can be jerks. But those same.people will be jerks in text chat too.

Typing does not somehow cure sexism.

Play any game with a female voice and you are likely to attract some jerks.

GTA, call of duty, mine craft etc.

Its not right but its a bit narrow minded to pretend that zos somehow can stop the internet from being well you know.

    Pro tip.

If you invite your wife to a PlayStation party you can cherry pick members.
Do this until you build up a reliable non sexist friend group.

Clowns will be everywhere yes. Text chat is recorded and modrrated, voice isnt. And besides that, text chat will make grouping, selling/buying items and guild recruitment much more easier and fluid. Those reasons alone should be enough to add text chat.

text chat can only cause more problems and take away from the social aspect this game has.

i like the fact i have to go into a town and actually talk and socialize with people if i want to trade / look for a pvp group etc.

we have forums for text chat and it seems better to promote people to check out the forums to participate in votes like this one.

i really would like the game without text chat, but that is my opinion, thanks for letting me share it.
