Should the poisons in this game be applied to weapons?

As many of us are aware, alchemy produces potions and poisons. However, the poisons can only affect yourself.

However, a lot of debate has circulated about whether poisons should be applied to weapons, sort of like rogues do in World of Warcraft.

So, keeping that in mind, do you think the poisons in this game should be able to be applied to weapons?

    Voting on my own poll...

Yes, poisons should be applied to weapons, but only to the weapons listed below:

    Bow
    Dagger
    One-Handed Weapons (Sword, Mace, Axe)

Why only those 3? Well, unless you can hit someone in a melee with a staff, it's not gonna be effective. And 2-handed weapons are more likely to cut someone in half before the poison even starts working, so what's the point of applying a poison to the 2-handed weapons?

All the others though are fair game.

i feel poisons are more of a rouge/nightblade thing so it should be a skill/perk for them. and i also feel it should only be for daggers :P

Depends, mate. And what are we supposed to do with the stuff you make in alchemy that ravages your health? Consume it yourself? I think only noobs would be that stupid to try it.

I'm more thinking the poisons we make in alchemy, the kind that ravages your health and reduces weapon damage, among other things.

But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

yes, they should, but... how will they work? will they have a timer, or hit count ? or just 1 for hit ? and if so, the effects are kinda "deal xdmg and deal extra xx for 5 seconds" , be given once the hit lands, okay, sounds fun.
but how people would re-poison their weapons ?

also the staff issue, and maces also, since they are blunt trauma weapons, they lack teh capacity for actually injecting poison in one's circulatory system...

I mean, they could apply it based on quick-slot, unlocked with a bow/dual wield passive or something, but if so, would ww take extra dmg from it as well? since, you know, poison ?

Everything but staves (I mean, really, how would you do that?). Okay, maybe not blunt weapons. You would probably have to draw blood to get the poison in there.

I never end up using poisons. I just sell 'em. I mean, honestly, why would I poison myself? That's all I seem to be able to do.

Unless, of course, I'm doing something wrong.

Destructive Clench for the Fire Staff knocks folks around fine, besides, why couldn't poison be at least partially carried by the fire/frost/shock bolt as it left the staff?

And for 2-handers, is there such a thing as overkill? I was not aware of this.

This would make alchemy a much more desirable crafting skill, and be in line with all other ES games.

Certainly poisons should apply to normal blade and arrow weapons, but not for staffs. Those should be augmented with Spell crafting, if ZOS ever gets around to implementing that line. So yes, I would like to see poisons applied to weapons, but only at the same time that special spells could be applied to staffs.

Staves and blunt non piercing weapons would be difficult to use poison with, but anything else, arrows, blades, maces with spikes would be fine. Poisons would have to have "charges", like 5 - 10 uses before you had to reapply the poison.

As someone that doesn't have but one main char , I was under the impression that poison was used on weapons such as bows , daggers etc. Wtf is the point of a crafted poison in the first place? "Wait Mr. Molag , let me drink this poison before we engage in battle , please." How dumb is that? So you can craft poison that can only be ingested?

They should make poisons/disease only for weapons typically associated with that. They should be removed from enchants and be made into potions that an alchemist could make.

Fire, Ice and Lightning enchants should remain with staffs. The only enchants that should apply to weapons that can be poisoned should be those that return a resource. These could be used in place of and not in addition to poison.

It would only make sense that poisons should be able to be applied to edged weapons and arrows. Seeing as how arrows already have a poison ability, maybe poisons could provide an additional bonus when used in conjunction with Poison Arrow or it's morphs.

This is a full blown YES, but only for bladed weapons such as swords, axes, daggers.

However, I think it would be interesting to see other crafting skills that could have a similar effect for other weapons. Like mage oils to your staff that would give a temporary buff to light and heavy damage. Or in woodworking you can craft arrows that may or may not take up inventory space, that you could buff your bow and use for increased damage, whatnot.

I'd like to see the option to poison all bladed weapons as well as arrows. To keep it balanced, you could increase the enchantment effects on staves, but I don't know what to do with maces.

What I'm thinking is, any poison would be like enchantments, i.e., they have a limited amount of charges before having to apply the poison again. However, no weapon can have a poison AND an enchantment...it must be one or the other, never both.

And yeah, any edged weapon would work, so one-handed swords, daggers, axes, and bows will work. All others no.

And as far as werewolf, I'm not a werewolf, so I don't know the passives.
