Additional Character Slots

I think I missed an announcement somewhere. Is ZoS still looking at giving us the option to add more character slots to an account? Or was this something they labeled as unfeasible and those of us with a habit of rolling up more alts should just buy additional copies of the game, deal with the annoyance of unlocking dyes and setting up additional crafters on new accounts?

for me this should be like they did in another mmo, where if you are a sub member you get 8 character slots, and if u stop paying for sub, only the first 4 count.

They could add like 1-2 more character slots for paying members, that would be seriously a decent/great perk to have

The problem for me is, I've already got 8 character slots. And, frankly, that's not enough.

I forget which ESO Live it was, but Paul Sage said a definite NO to additional character slots. He's moved on, so perhaps this could be revisited...

There's 4 classes and 8 slots... Why on earth would you need more slots?? Why now just respec a character you already have?

And 10 races... It's pretty obvious why some people want/need more than 8 slots.

Unless you want what, 160 slots, you really shouldn't expect to have one race of each class. Not including gender... 8 is plenty

Yeah, it must be plenty! That must be why so many people keep asking for more slots over and over again! Nobody actually wants them! If @Ipsius doesn't agree with the reasons why people want more than 8 slots then those reasons are invalid!

I personally do not see the reason to have more than 8. But i do understand that some players out there like to make hundreds of level 10 characters and since adding more character slots will not effect me at all i do not see why they should not add more.

Also the part where, if I want to get someone else into the game, at this point, they need to go through most of the leveling content before they could actually play with me. That's, you know, completely irrelevant to the idea of being able to just roll up a new character to play an MMO with your friends...

If they can monetize it, no reason not to allow more But they've already announced "no" to be the answer. Creating threads about something they've already directly addressed isn't likely to accomplish much. So roll 1 of each class and leave 4 for getting others into the game.

Little late for that now.

And, no I'm not saying that I need to be given more. Being able to buy more character slots is fairly common in modern MMOs. It's a really painless way for the company to actually open up additional revenue.

Also, I actually did miss Paul Sage's comment on the subject, which is why I was asking, and not going, "Ah demand reparations!" or following in @theforgottenking1779 's wonderful advocacy style.

That said, Sage is out now, so it might get revisited.

Is ZOS listening when there's potential to making some money on additional character slots?
8 is a good start, plenty for those that don't care.
Have a hard cap (can't exceed a certain amount).
Nobody can have more than... (for example) 4-6 additional slots.
I would spend crowns on these when I hit the soft 8 limit.

Nobody is forced to have more slots, nobody is forced to buy them.
If 8 is enough for some, 8 it will remain.
ARE YOU LISTENING NOW, ZOS?
People will spend money on this!

I don't think we need more slots, not everyone has the time to enjoy the game with more than one character but it could be nice to be able to create more characters though and ZOS can definitly make some money out of it or enhanced ESO + membership to bait more subscribers.

I never said nobody wants it; there will always be minority of players demanding/willing to pay for any random thing they specifically want. I just saw a thread today complaining of too few eyebrow choices. I'm sure a minority of players would agree, but it's not likely to be implemented.

The point is, the subject has been beaten to death AND directly answered. If you're willing to pay for more character slots, buy an extra copy of the game. Voila, 8 more character slots!

Which comes with it's own inconveniences, like having to reearn dyes you already have unlocked and building a new bank. Also the inability to pass some items between the accounts. Which would be fine by itself, but the whole thing slowly expands into an idiotic mess.

There is a workaround in the form of buying another copy of the game. It does come with its own issues unfortunately, but it will be an uphill battle to try to convince Zos to add character slots to the crown store when they essentially already have that feature monetized (buying another copy).

It may happen eventually. Who knows. Id rather they spend their hours and manpower on fixing bugs and creating content.

Ironically, monetizing character slots is probably a better deal for ZoS than expecting to sell more boxes. At $5 a head, you're looking at 8 character slots having a cost of $40, which is actually more than you're likely to see it for on store shelves, these days. (Not counting the console versions.)

It's also a very solid sink for Crowns, pushing players who are subscribing into using more of those towards buying more crowns, either for the slots or for the random convenience items and nicknacks.

Now, if this is actually a very complex architecture issue with the game... then that would be *** weird.

Given the number of "easy" and "extremely obvious" adjustments and fixes that remain broken for months and years, I'm guessing changing anything is vastly more complicated than it seems. Either that or they only have like 3 people working for the company...

I'm not planning on asking this question every other day, if that's what you're worried about, but I might bring it up again in a month or two, if I forget the outcome of this thread, anyway.

I can't see a legitimate reason why you would need more than eight. Perhaps if your chosen class, race, and gender changed how the story played out, but it doesn't. There are only three stories, all of which you can experience on a SINGLE character, and only four classes to vary gameplay. I've played several MMOs and none of them had more than eight character slots, even after purchasing extras, and none of them have ever needed more than that. Maybe there IS 240 different combinations of race, class, faction, and gender, but no one is EVER going to level 240 different characters.

Yes, how dare I want to experience the beginning of the game again, or want to actually play alongside a friend I'm introducing to the game. No, that's entirely unreasonable, because no one enjoys the beginning of the game, that's entirely unreasonable.

Once I've finished the main quest 8 times, I should never ever want to hear Abnur Tharn snarking again, because it's entirely unreasonable that I find his comments entertaining.

To put what starkerealm said into a shorter sentence - just because you can't see it doesn't mean others can. Please respect that other people enjoy different ways of playing the game than you

I know someone who had 17 character slots in guild wars 2, and still counting - I also managed to get them to buy ESO a couple weeks ago >.> So, yeah...it really could be a decent revenue generator. Mind, 17 slots isn't the norm, even among my circle of friends, but still.

Anyway, here's me tossing in my support for more character slots.
