- Right now, you cannot be crit while having a damage shield up.
- This will be changed in upcoming PTS patch according to devs
- Damage shields are also immune to some different effects. Bleeds in particular, as well as knockbacks I believe. EDIT: Others have mentioned that Elemental Drain and Force Siphon will not proc on Shields. I have not tested this personally.
- Damage shields are not affected by other mitigation such as impenetrable, reinforced, armor/spell resistance
- If damage "overflows" the damage shield, you will take the overflow amount as unmitigated damage
In case you are wondering, the ability to nullify crits with a small damage shield is generally not worth the drawback of taking the overflow damage. I made a quick spreadsheet some months back to compare having a small damage shield (Weapon hardening glyph) versus not having one. Sometimes it is beneficial, sometimes it is harmful. My conclusion was that another type of weapon glyph was more useful due to this.
its known as the "overflow bug" as it negates any armor mitigation the target would have (in this pic sth about 55k spell res 7heavy nirn pieces + nirn shield) Sallington wrote: »Anything useful that players are wanting added into the game all fall under the category of "Yer ruinin my 'mersion!"

Can someone explain the reasoning behind making shields critible given the overflow problem and the plentitude of small shields out there such as the one they just added to the frost weapon line (TriFocus)?

Because right now the best defense in the game is a light armor user (Sorc) and also has amazing offense.

Seems to me that the best defense in the game is a DK if vortexman running around IC tanking 10+ people is any indication.

Really curious to know what all vortexman was doing last night to be virtually unkillable. My guild had about 8 people all hitting on him at the same time and we couldn't kill him. When he was by himself he wasn't killing any of us but he did keep us all tied up for a significant length of time.

This is just my opinion but to me that is okay. It's okay for someone to be a pvp tank IF they are not killing anyone in any significant way. He's there, it's annoying, but that person has chosen to be a tank and I think that should be an available option in pvp, just like healer and dps.

Ummm, fundamentally disagree. This player was soaking up damage from at least 8 people, was able to heal back up to full health and full shield for several minutes. That indicates he never ran out of magicka or stamina the entire team. It wasn't like he was kiting us around either. He was charging into the middle of our ranks and going toe to toe in melee range with us.
I'm all for longer TTK but one solo player getting focus fired by 8 or more players should die in a few seconds. If they don't then that would seem to indicate there is some unknown software bug affecting the gameplay.
