@Dekkameron Such a cool armor too xD
@Farorin Not sure if it will redeem the character for you, but here goes. Jorunn -is- actually trying really hard. When I came across some lore books and started listening to the dialogue. It came to the surface he atually isn't really a warrior... He is a bard. I am not entirely sure if it is even known how he defeated his brother after they competed for the throne when their older sister died. I found the character a bit odd at first, but when reading into it a little, I found the thought of the Nords basically having a poet as their king quite amusing. ^^

    I thought of a couple more. :P

    Like:

Verandis Ravenwatch - this guy is not what he seems. Initially portrayed as a "good" vampire interested in the welfare of his community and guiding his coven away from their bestial impulses, later you start to glimpse his arrogance and need for control and ultimately find out just how dark his past really is.

Varon Davel - no-nonsense veteran assassin who knows what he's doing. I like that.

Which brings me to another dislike...

Naryu Virian - I get that she's meant to be fanservice with her sexy mysterious assassin in a leather catsuit persona which wouldn't bother me if it wasn't overplayed so much. No, Naryu, it's possible my character doesn't like what they see, and we're doing an important mission, feel free to drop the bedroom voice from time to time. Also Alits are not so bad, you don't need to squeal like a little girl and behave like the pro assassin you're supposed to be.

Sai Sahan: Our enemy is the greatest necromancer of Tamriel and this clown hides the Amulet of Kings in an undead infested ruin (sancre tor). Couldn't he have placed it in the Priory of the Eight!

Well, he hid it where he hid it and then as Mannimarco's power came to light, he turned the dead into undead when he was after the amulet. I don't think it was known he was a necromancer even at the time of betraying the Companions.

For the record, I neither like nor dislike Sai.

I'm surprised to see this many very similiar responds, lol. At first I expected to get a lot of hate on disliking Lyris, like "how can u not liek her, you psychopath?!. But I see that many people like Abnur, Razum-dar, Queen Ayrenn and I feel comfortable living with the fact that I've been not the only one disliking Lyris, also Sai but I when it comes to Laloriaran I've got an explanation.
    ...
    3) King Laloriaran Dynar - if Ayrenn is Mary Sue then this guy is Marty Stu. Does he have any faults at all?
    ...

This ancient Ayleid King was supposed to serve his people in the times of the greatest trouble and so he has to be strong, charismatic, leader type and capable of handling things on his own without showing a weakness. He has to be the role model to others. So IMHO it's more than logical for him to be flawless, almost perfect.

Oh, he was !! Both Mannimarco and Vanus Galerion were pupils/students at the Psijic Order in Arthaeum in their youth. Necromancy at that time was taboo at the Order and Mannimarco insisted on studying/practicing it. That got him thrown out of the Psijic Order and that's when he started the Worm Cult thing.

Vanus Galerion too left the order a few years later. He thought that the art of magic should be taught and spread and made available to everyone, whereas the Psijic Order thought it had to be kept among the elite of wizards. That's why Galerion founded the Mages' Guild with schools of magic everywhere.

However, Vanus remained "friends" with the Psijics whereas Mannimarco became their enemy (and Vanus Galerion's personal worst enemy).

So yes it was known at the time that Mannimarco was into necromancy. Sai Sahan might not have been aware of it though... I mean, he studied muscles, combat, heroism and resistance, not history or philosophy or politic or magic.

I like Sai Sahan very much. But that's because I'm always fond of "good strong guys" stereotype, and since I'm an heterosexual woman I fall for him and not for Lyris ;-)

I find it hard to believe he didn't know; he and Mannimarco were part of the same close-knit group of adventurers and something like Mannimarco's past history with the Psijics would have come up. No, I think Sai dun goofed and even Lyris picks him up on it. :p

    Hmmm... most liked for me:

Naryu Virian - she started out as just another "assassin girl in tight leather armor" in Deshaan, but her snarky comments when she was undercover in eastmarch and what followed made me remember her fondly. Doubly so for the way she handles things a bit differently then you'd expect from her comments...

Abner Tharn - he's arrogant, he's trecherous, he's ruthless... and he is honest about it. No sugarcoating from that one, and I always liked the way how he shot sarcastic comments at Sai and Lyris... it showed in some way he respected them as worthy opponents to sharpen his wit against, for all the putdowns he had for them.

Raynor and Kireth Vanos - I just love how you meet that sibling explorer team all over the EP territories, and beyond, and their interactions through them. But... Kireth "dealing" with her brother in the library of dusk was what really made me giggle... if there ever is some huge dwemer ruin themed DLC, I am hoping to see then be back and play a good part in it...

    And disliked NPCs...

Jakarn - that one may be personal, since I have known people -just- like him, with unfortunate results. But... I really want to trip him up sometimes so a certain altmer can catch up to him and then watch with a pan full of spiced fried potatos to snack on... ;)

Varnus Galerion - proud to the point of foolishness, arrogant to the point of blindness, and worst of all, far too condescending to everyone who isn't a centuries old elf. If I needed some master mage advice, I'd go seek Telenger instead...

Gabriele Benelle - her scatterbrained bimbo mage archetype makes me wince every quest I meet her. As does the fact that half those quests end up with her needing to fix some mess her lack of attention caused in the first place... (poor stibbons, I hope he elopes with the sort-of-girlfriend he met in the manor of revelry... ;) )

Well, what this Bosmer was up to was to lure the player into thinking you will always face mudcrabs, wolves and stuff, while naming them as some mighty beasts. In the end you would be baited into a Giant fight. Her whole intention is to have these people killed in the end to rob them.

The NPC in the Inn said it after I reported her for squatching, as this NPC stated that by this time this Bosmer is long gone and she is not as cute as she looks¨and acts. Once she got killed one Nord guy and his two brothers came out looking for her. Both got killed and IIRC their mouths were ripped and shaped to a big smile as Joker has.

Just out of curiosity name a couple of characters which you like the most and some you don't really like - the reason behind it would also be welcomed. Let me start it off.

    My favorite NPCs are:
    1) Abnur Tharn (His cynism, sarcasm is a great tool to shape his character, also he is the most memorable one out of all the Companions. He doesn't just tell you what you want to hear, he sees things are they are and he likes to joke around and I especially loved the few lines he had towards Lyris.)
Almost everything that comes out of Abnur's mouth is pure gold. But, he really shines when you actually get all of the Companions together, and they start playing off one another. Literally the only time in the game I actually like Lyris is when she and Tharn are sniping at each other in the late game missions.

Also, that Abnur has specific dialog for the various members of the Tharn family you snuff in the various alliance storylines is amazing and hilarious.
    Runaan wrote: »
    2) Cadwell (I suppose a great majority of players loves thi character, to me it's his way of seeing things, his "heoric" lines he has and well... I guess there's not much to say other than that... JOLLY GOOD!)
Cadwell is a character that really shouldn't work. I'd chalk it up to John Cleese. The guy is fantastic.
    Runaan wrote: »
    3) Razum-dar (I guess he's grown onto me, I always looked forward to get to quest with him. Not to mention his voice acting really reminds me of Ezio from AC series and he also has some really funny lines)
Fun trivia, Raz's voice actor is actually the same actor that voiced Molag Bal in Skyrim.
    Runaan wrote: »
    4) King Lalorian Dynar (A proud Ayleid and a great leader, it was a really cool feeling to battle Molag Bal alongside him... and his final lines, that almost made me drop one manly tear.)
Ironically, I actually like him better in the Covenant plotline than in Cold Harbour.
    Runaan wrote: »
    5) Mannimarco (I was adoring his lust for power and his plans to "outscheme the God of Schemes", it is a really an interesting villain and I wish to see more of him in ESO)
Mannimarco never really worked for me.
    Runaan wrote: »
    6) Queen Ayrenn (Out of the three alliance leaders, she seems to be the most respectful towards other races, unlike Nords for instance. Whereas Jorrun and Emeric seem to be rather shortsighted compared to Ayrenn. I clearly remember Ayrenn in the Orrery, walking out in a beam of light, describing seeing a Dominion as the fair and just rule of the Tamriel, which she hopes to live to see. Suffice to say that she is more open minded about what's always going on.)
    7) Angof the Undying (The first time I got to Coldharbour on my EP character, I wasn't aware of his doings in Daggerfall but I instantly knew I will choose him over any other of the three, Thaliik and Estre. His sort of russian-like accent made him a bit unique, his personality seemed to have changed in Coldharbour and he showed that he can be a great person and so since then I always went with Angof.)

Interestingly, Estre actually has different dialog if you killed her or not, where she'll actually try to fool you into thinking she had popular support to be Queen, if you don't know any better.

But, I do really love the Cliffs of Failure, because it really elevates Angof from a one dimensional villain into a fairly compelling character. And that's rare enough that it sticks with me.
    Runaan wrote: »
And the NPCs I don't particularly like:
    1) Lyris Titanborn (IMHO the simple, good "guy" character that fears no evil, aids you whenever you need, the every games', movies' and books' protagonist or the character that is simply way too good and moral and something about her doesn't feel right to me tho, lol. Maybe it's the fact that she is really so predictable, easy to know what to expect from her. I feel like I'm gonna get bashed for this)

I think Jennifer Hale did a good job with the character it's just... well, Jennifer Hale doing another round of very bland, generic, badass.
    Runaan wrote: »
    2) Merric at-Aswala (Now I can't really say I dislike him or hate him, rather than I am really annoyed by his voice acting, seems like he's from the Stone Age. "I believe so, oh my comrade", "Truly? What have you learned?". Old school type of narrating not fitting into the game that well to me, too noble and hesitant but otherwise a he makes a good Guildmaster)

I kinda like Merric. I think that might be up to Merric also having Raz's VA. He is a very straightforward, "hit anything evil until it stops twitching and screaming" type. But, he never struck me as horribly out of place.

    3) King Emeric (I have gone through DC only two times and it was a year ago so I can't really speak from my recent experience but a thing I remember about him and really hate, is that you always have to save him, all the time. Wherever he goes he gets captured or into trouble and even with dozens of Lion Guards behind his back he still wanted me to aid him. Walking around in his heavy armor, not taking a swing and his personality is really distant to me. He really thinks high of himself and talks to a person as if he was trying to get on top of them, to let them know he's the 'King' here, this forced respect towards him is what makes me think he's not a good leader)

It's really interesting you're looking at Emeric that way. The perspective I've always gotten of him was as a reluctant leader, who never really wanted to be King and is weighed down with insecurities that he's spent most of his life masking. He is distant, but that's from being king, and being treated as king, not from personal arrogance.

He and Jorunn both have a bad habit of becoming damsels in distress, which I think is a subtle dig at the cliche, since it doesn't really happen with Ayrenn, but, with Emeric it gets hauled out twice in Stormhaven, and then again in Bangkorai, which starts to feel lazy after awhile.

That's it for my list, so what are yours favorite and well... less favorite NPCs?

Sorry, that's more a response to your list than my own.

@starkerealm, appreciated your opinion and I'm really glad that so many people enjoy Abnur, for a long time I felt like being the only one who likes him and that many people sees him as not so likable character.
Today we make our stand. Today we take back the Ruby Throne, which is ours by ancient right and the blessings of the Divines.
