Damage Over Time Testing

Has anyone been able to test these?

1. Axe bleed being reset instead of doing damage when attacking with 100% bleed chance. This is most likely do to the fact that the bleed keeps overwriting itself whenever you trigger it. With the 1 second delay before a bleed tick this leads to dual axes never getting a bleed while using their weapon attacks.

2. Damage shield purging dots when applied.

3. Damage shields preventing dots from being applied while active.

4. Blocking halving the damage of dots while active.

5. Oblivion's foe new damage values for soul trap. Does it effect the ultimate for the soul line?

DoT effects are so lack luster in 1.7 but hey according to Eric they adjusted the duration to make them more appealing and anyone who stands in them will get melted...............

*stands in Wall of Elements laughing at the tickling going on* suuuuuuuuuch a threat LOL!!!!!

I feel your pain from the DoT side of things.....not a fan of the new numbers or broken methods to avoid it

Eric Wrobel's comments on DOT builds left me puzzled. I can't think of any DOT based builds that are effective outside of DK because they have so much class support for it.

To be fair liquid lightning was a good change and wall of elements can be useful for it's status effects if not it's actual damage ( although adding another 500-600 dps to my liquids 1600+ dps isn't so bad).

It's the 5 things I listed that really concern me at the moment though. With those cleaned up and bleed immunities being removed I think the overall environment to analyze DOT based builds would be much better.

Yes DoTs are kinda ... lack luster and need alot of changes and love specialy bleed effects but hey #Wheebler said that there changing bleed and dots to effect more type of enemies ....... That's it ... isn't that a wonderful game changing change to DoTs? Sure that isn't the real problem but hey the fact DoTs really only do like 2K damage over a course of 10 seconds that is well easy enough for a potion to heal through isn't the problem with DoTs but the fact they didn't effect all types of enemies is.

I think removing bleed immunity is a step in the right direction. From a leveling perspective having so many zones be 50%+ immune to bleeding made it very discouraging to want to play with dots. Duel wield is an awful new player experience because of it if nothing else.

I've been trying to emulate the "dark caster" archetype I've played in multiple MMOs on my NB since beta and eventually gave up. Only DK DoTs are halfway decent and they are melee. So much for the playstyle I've been able to sustain over multiple games. You would think a game with such open ended build choices I'd be able to make it work but DoTs are so weak in this game it really discourages that playstyle.

DK dots haven't been a threat since 1.5

They certainly aren't a threat with even less damage.

And they'll never be a threat as long as damage shields just negate them entirely.

Yes removing immune to bleed is a step int he right direction but again with most bleeds doing at most like 2500 damage and spamming over 10 seconds will never make them any good cause again a simple potion can heal through that no problem.

Either damage needs to go way up to suit the time like 10K damage over 10 seconds is ok or time for bleeds need to come way down to like 2500 over 4 or 5 seconds.

Like for example the cleave skill from 2H I got it maxed out at 2000 damage for it's bleed effect be nice sure but that's over a course of 10 seconds that's 500 points of damage which is nothing and for example if i get hit with that it's nothing cause my health recovery is 1000+. I can heal through that with out potions or healing spells which proves at how terrible bleed and DoTs are cause bleed damage at least stay on the target DoT are normaly planted AoE spells or skills which a player can easily walk out of. So yes right direction but far away from the goal.

Even less after the recent nerf to secondary effects chance of burning (now 3%). Yeah, freaking half our deeps line is negated, and it's an even half because fiery grip isn't even considered a working skill. People complain because they got whip spammed, well yeah of course.

I actually thought about using that set. Consuming Trap is not bad for PvE sustain.

If DoTs would tick on shields properly I would use them more often in pvp. Except that they don't... So I just spam whip. Like a baws. Like @Xsorus said, DK dots aren't good and haven't been a threat in pvp since 1.5
