Can anyone answer some damage shield questions?

I have looked but failed to find any definitive answers to the following questions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Keeping PvP, Damage shields and Critical hits in mind:

What happens if your damage shield is critically hit and the critical damage outweighs what's left on your damage shield?

Like say you have 2k left on a damage shield and someone crits your shield for 12k... Does the extra 10k bleed over into your health bar? I would assume

If so, that begs another question. Do damage shields benefit from Impenetrable in PvP? how about mitigation stats like reinforced or nirnhoned? If not, damage shields, when they get low and crit really hard could do more harm than good could they not?

Hypothetical Situation:

I have a 1k damage shield left and I get crit for 10K = I take 9k damage if the overflow is not effected by mitigation

vs.

I have no damage shield and get crit for 10k, but my armor/spell resist mitigates it by 30% = I take 7k damage

vs.

I have no damage shield and my crit resistance (impenetrable trait) prevents a 10k crit = I take 5k damage or less due to mitigation

Not sure that's how it works? Anyone know? I am very curious

Sorry, so many questions!

    - Right now, you cannot be crit while having a damage shield up.
    - This will be changed in upcoming PTS patch according to devs
    - Damage shields are also immune to some different effects. Bleeds in particular, as well as knockbacks I believe. EDIT: Others have mentioned that Elemental Drain and Force Siphon will not proc on Shields. I have not tested this personally.

    - Damage shields are not affected by other mitigation such as impenetrable, reinforced, armor/spell resistance

    - If damage "overflows" the damage shield, you will take the overflow amount as unmitigated damage

In case you are wondering, the ability to nullify crits with a small damage shield is generally not worth the drawback of taking the overflow damage. I made a quick spreadsheet some months back to compare having a small damage shield (Weapon hardening glyph) versus not having one. Sometimes it is beneficial, sometimes it is harmful. My conclusion was that another type of weapon glyph was more useful due to this.

    wich can ontop crit.
IuY63r4.png its known as the "overflow bug" as it negates any armor mitigation the target would have (in this pic sth about 55k spell res 7heavy nirn pieces + nirn shield)

Can someone explain the reasoning behind making shields critible given the overflow problem and the plentitude of small shields out there such as the one they just added to the frost weapon line (TriFocus)?

Does this mean as a tank using glyph of hardening on my sword is causing me to take more unmitigated damage every time my sword procs for a small shield?

Given the size of the shield (usually sub 1000) I think it is safe to say everyone takes more damage using that glyph, unless we are talking tiny hits, in which case you don't need the shield anyway. :(

Not much of a worry, grab the stam absorb glyph now with the lack of block regen

We might have to steer clear of any shield, even dragon leap. Even a big shield can drop down to 1k or so and then you take a huge hit and bam your dead for using broken abilities they left in the game.

I've never seen ZOS comment on the overflow bug. Can someone please take up this issue and spam them until they answer? Please, I don't have the patience anymore.

Further to this thread I've always wondered how stacking shields with different effects works and is there a benefit to casting shields in a specific order? For instance should I cast healing ward before hardened ward?

Because right now the best defense in the game is a light armor user (Sorc) and also has amazing offense.

Seems to me that the best defense in the game is a DK if vortexman running around IC tanking 10+ people is any indication.

Why can't they just fix sorcs instead of making a lot of things obsolete and even fatal? Igenous shield is the only way I survive as a light armor DK and now they are going to make it a death sentence just to fix the mistakes of the last update. The hole just gets deeper and deeper. Why won't they man up and just fix the mistakes of the last update instead of making new ones to hide the old ones.

Really curious to know what all vortexman was doing last night to be virtually unkillable. My guild had about 8 people all hitting on him at the same time and we couldn't kill him. When he was by himself he wasn't killing any of us but he did keep us all tied up for a significant length of time.

This is just my opinion but to me that is okay. It's okay for someone to be a pvp tank IF they are not killing anyone in any significant way. He's there, it's annoying, but that person has chosen to be a tank and I think that should be an available option in pvp, just like healer and dps.

well i would agree - but there is a difference in beeing unable to kill someone out of a group of 9 with dedicated healers and dealing no dmg.

Ummm, fundamentally disagree. This player was soaking up damage from at least 8 people, was able to heal back up to full health and full shield for several minutes. That indicates he never ran out of magicka or stamina the entire team. It wasn't like he was kiting us around either. He was charging into the middle of our ranks and going toe to toe in melee range with us.

I'm all for longer TTK but one solo player getting focus fired by 8 or more players should die in a few seconds. If they don't then that would seem to indicate there is some unknown software bug affecting the gameplay.

I completely agree....that solo player should of died, I wish I knew who that handsome DK in the pink amour was so I could kill him myself >.>

And its not a software bug, Im just proving to some people that thought it was fixed that you can still tank and perma block, you just need to think outside the box, any DK with high enough magicka regeneration can do that.

Step 1: Be an imperial so you can stack insane stamina and health
Step 2: Be a DK so you get stamina back upon casting igneous Shield
Step 3: Every single last thing you wear should give you magicka regen ( I litterally mean everything)
Step 4: Dragonsblood is a terrible, if you have enough health cleanse is a much better heal (I started using this later on in the night)
Step 5: Cry a little inside when you see that your flame lash hits less than it did in 1.5 ( seriously I hit 400 with the thing)

Having a 1000 point damage shield on a weapon enchant as a tank when proc'ing causes the balance of the damage to hit you completely unmitigated by armor and spell resist is a huge deal with the changes in blocking. This must be addressed along with the IC update as it can be game breaking.

This issues needs a response that is has not been overlooked.
