Heh I love how the Text Chat lobby has hijacked this thread.
I play on PS4 in Chillrend, which is just about always population locked and crazy active. Last night it was a tug of war game back and forth for just hours, made about 200,000 AP in a sitting, it's great.
I'm in a very large PVP guild and we have one primary voice chat channel for joining the Cyrodiil raids, I've never heard anyone complain about a lack of text chat nor have we had anyone quit the game that I can think of.
Month one the PS4 sold 800,000 copies and XBox sold about 600,000. People shouldn't consider that just because people haven't reached achievements that they have quit the game, different people play at different speeds, many are altaholics, etc. It's unlikely that those who haven't hit whatever milestone you choose to use are also completely done with the game, I for one didn't play for the first week as I was enjoying Arkham Knight and jumped in once I'd beaten that.
True stats come out during investor calls and are shared, ignore the arm chair economists in the forums, they all got their degrees in jumping to conclusions.

Fact of the matter is, Text Chat also helps you meet new people much easier among many other things. Text Chat is also better for the Social Atmosphere as it provides and easy access for EVERYBODY to talk to and is also good for Roleplayers.

Good point, because while in battle I can def see how great text chat could be. And also yes that makes perfect sense that texting is easier to make friends then actually talking to people. Sound logic. The more efficient way of communication is actually makes it harder to communicate. Communicating instantly is just bothersome. The few mins it took me to write this I could of said in 3 secs and already got a reply from you by the time you see this. Yup def this is def the better form of communication. My god people, just learn to make friends and communicate. And if you're a deaf or mute, I'm not talking to you, I feel terrible for you. But everyone else get out of your social insecurities and actually talk to people. In the real world you will have to talk to people all the time, just think of this as a learning experience

I have found that, so far, I haven't needed text to communicate. That might change should I join a guild but even still, there is the ps4 direct messaging feature.

Depends on the situation, mainly I could be talking to other People IRL and rather Text Chat and talk to other friends in the same time.
Also when it comes to affordability Keyboards are also much cheaper then a good headset, also if Text Chat was implemented on Consoles IT IS much easier to meet more people more efficiently because you'll be talking in Zones, and it'll be easy to talk to others without Talking to them when they could be busy talking to others through voice.
Well you can do the first thing already on xbox1. I send messages using my app all the time to my friends. And 99% of the time it's them asking me if I'm pvping and get them in the group. Quick easy, I'm in group chat and sending messages to my friends at the same time. So yeah that isn't an issue on Xbox and I'm sure it's the same with ps
So texting in zones is easier than just talking to people when you get in towns, or ask someone if they want to group up when walking around in mission areas? How exactly? And I've made friends already playing eso, and pretty good friends considering age difference and can't really hang out because you can have more in depth and fluid conversations by actually talking to eachother.

All the Xbox campaigns on NA are full every night. People go right in at level 10 and never come back out lol.
PVP leveling is a lot slower than PVE leveling.
A lot of trading and bartering in main cities (though prices are still way too high on consoles).
I've managed to get a few PUGs for Craiglorn quests the last few days as people are getting to decent levels there now.
Results will vary a lot between Xbox and PS4. Xbox has had standard voice for 10+ years. The community is much more used to dropping into games and chatting with people on your side (in shooters), or doing PUG style objectives in games like Dying Light and GTA5. My PS4 friends almost never bother to have their mic connected, and never had one in PS3 days.
Consoles aren't dying. of all the people in my guilds, only 4 that I know of have quit. 3 are PC transfers complaining about chat box and add-ons. The 4th went back to Destiny because he is a shooter guy and felt that he couldn't really play endgame in 1st person (too much red ground etc. is hard to deal with in 1st person) and he hates 3rd person games.
That however is not the norm for MMORPG's on Consoles. Yes they're use to it because other games don't need it, however MMORPG's are completely different.
If anything Text Chat is highly useful, there's a reason why Deltia utilizes text chat and also Damage Numbers etc... Because it's very useful and very much needed.

So Have I, doesn't change the fact that would make things much more sociable then Voip only.
Doesn't change the fact that RP is Heavily reliant on Text Chat, Doesn't change the fact that having both is much better then VOIP only.
That VOIP only has a ton of downsides. Text Chatting is in fact a much easier way to talk to 10+ people at the same time without TALKING OVER EACH OTHER.

How is texting easier to talk to 10 people? When my boss wants to talk to us he walks into the room and tells us something. He doesn't send us all text messages. So when you are talking about talking over people are you talking about group chat or area chat? Group chat you can just tell everyone to clear comms, then say whatever and get instant feedback. In in area you just take 10 steps away from all the chatter and have a chat with whomever without talking over anyone.......but feel free to keep trying to find a way that texting is actually a better way of communicating.
Wouldn't that be much better since Mods can easily Ban them if they violated a rule? You also have a recorded history of what that person said.TequilaFire wrote: »And the language and abuse is just as bad and there for all to see for minutes instead of said and gone.

Other than LFG or spamming sales or guild invites I don't miss it at all.
Fact is 10 people text chatting real fast you have to scroll back and forth to see the whole chain of thought.
And the language and abuse is just as bad and there for all to see for minutes instead of said and gone.
Now don't get me wrong, I am for choice and hope you all get your text chat.
But I fear that will not be the end of it. smh

I never said it was BETTER, It's better to HAVE BOTH.
Bosses and CEO's still send out Emails and Notifications through other means besides using there Voice, and yes CEO's still Text and Tweet.
The fact of the matter is, it's always better to have BOTH especially in an MMO which is all about being SOCIAL and meeting new people.
As somebody has said, NOT EVERYBODY has a GOOD MIC and many people don't. It's not just about talking over 10 people, it's also about having the convenience to also Text Chat which is PROVEN in many cases highly useful.
Not true, many people utilized TEXT chat in MMO's. letalone I'm talking about Both vs you are trying to assuming I'm only for Text Chat.
Haha NOT EVERYONE has a GOOD MIC, how about almost every console gamer doesn't have a keyboard they plug into their console, or don't have the attachment for the keyboard into controller. So you argue so strongly in here for a from on communication that the vast majority of the community won't even begin to use.
But hey I hope you get it, so you can become better friends with the 50 out 600,000 people that will use it. You guys better not be on here crying how your text chat suck because no one uses it. I mean you guys act like zos 0 market researcher before they made this choice

LOL no one uses text chat? which is why in FFXIV, DCUO a ton of people use text chat. I guess you never played an MMO before that had text chat.
Text box works so well for identifying:
-who the person is
-what chat they are in (what they want in general)
-understanding them the first time
-scrolling back to review conversations (esp for offensive stuff)
-right click menu for adding them to whatever, ignoring, friending, grouping, etc...
-private conversations without having to switch channels (super cumbersome)
-being open to all conversations while only responding to the one you want
Voice chat will never be able to be as elegant as the chat box for all of these things.
Voice chat is way more effective at getting information across fast, especially in a group setting, and for casual fun/goofing around with friends.
Both text and voice are required/desired in an mmo setting, and trying to stuff a square peg in a round hole, or a round peg in a square hole will meet with the exact results we are seeing today

Oh ok, so now I need a mouse with my console too. So I need a mouse and keyboard for my console Got it. If you want the PC feel of the game play the PC version of the game
