Respawn Platform Sniping

This is related to this thread where you could gank at the "spawn doors". But this time it is in reverse and doesn't involve the district-to-district doors. Instead, it involves the respawn locations for each faction. The second-floor spot you jump down from after dying to re-enter the battle.

For example, take the AD respawn zone in the Noble District. You aren't protected from being AoE or Snipe ganked by players on the ground if they have a good enough eye, but by that same token you can park your arse up there and attempt to snipe gank anyone that gets within range. It works both ways, but mostly in the favor of the guy on that respawn platform doing the camping.

It shouldn't take an alchemist to figure out how bad this is. If players can camp up on those respawn zones and snipe enemy players that get too close, it could lead to "risk free" Tel Var farming. The best counter to this is to keep your group well away from enemy respawn platforms to force them to jump down and engage you in a traditional manner. However, for the most part this should be fairly simple to fix.

That purple glow effect, that War Truce buff/debuff that prevents you from using skills and from being attacked. If this was put on everyone up on those platforms and only dissipated when they jump down, that can straight up force players to jump down to fight instead of camp up there like a traditional sniper waiting for a mark.

Please consider ways to discourage such behavior. It feels so cheap to sit up there sniping enemy players on the ground and not engage in the same risk of losing your TV stones as everyone else.

The solution to this: Do not spawn camp and try to farm people while they jump down from the respawn platform.

As far as I know, there are no objectives within the range of said platforms except for the roamer bosses that can wander near there.

If any, change the platforms so that you can only gank from top down, not vice versa. Spawn camping has to be punished.

I am talking about you, being able to snipe them from your spawn point. Not you sniping them at their spawn point. Opposite problem. Since you could farm NPCs nearby for TV stones all day from up there like a cheapskate, maybe kill a few players, and only have to worry about being counter-sniped or meteor'd.

Spawn points should be able to be defended, so I think this is actually working well. If the other players don't want to be sniped from your spawn point, they shouldn't be going near it. NPCs shouldn't be able to be farmed from a spawn point though, as they are not supposed to engage in combat if they cannot reach their attacker.

Some of them are able to return fire though. And if you have enough of a burst DPS, it won't matter because you'd drop them before they reset anyway. They need to fix that. The ranged NPC's should be replaced with melee NPCs near those respawn points so they will reset instead of run closer to wave their magic stick in your direction.

Yes, I was also talking about that.

It is good and important that a freshly respawned player can defend his respawn location more or less untargetable by opponents. This is the most simple method to discourage spawn camping and much preferable over artificial protection like an invulnerability shield for x seconds. Spawn camping is a very unbalanced method since the spawning player does not have any opportunity to "buff up".

Now as to your second point, I agree that TV stone farming by standing on top of the spawn zone and ranging down mobs it a bad mechanic and should be controlled. One option you already gave: change all mobs in range of the platforms to melee and let them reset quickly. Another option would be to generally make it that you have to "loot" NPCs to get their stones. That way you could snipe all day any day and only able to get the stones after you jumped down, thus giving up your secure location.

    Just as food for thought.

I think this would be a great idea, and I suggested it over on the stones feedback thread as well. Leave the PvP stones as they are, but it'd be great to actually see the stones when you get them off NPCs.

Not at all, I always think an idea becomes more credible if two people come up with it entirely independently :)

I think the spawn points of the different factions are too close together

Like in the memorial district, i spent there 2 hours on ad side and all that was happening was people running 50 meters max to the left to kill the dc players and vice versa

What a waste of the rest of the map, and it got boring real fast.

Maybe in a group you can decide to go somewhere else in the district, but most solo pvp-ers (part time mindless zergers) will just see the same 50 meters of street all afternoon long. Bit like pushing ash from nikel but without the interesting choke points in between....
Beesting, Bosmer Magica DK, AD EU, crafter
Slager, Dunmer Magica DK, DC EU, pvp
Farmer, Dunmer Magica DK, AD EU, trials build

Every major patch looks like the end of the world but somehow i just cannot stop playing.
