Console (PS4) version community

Zeroswitch
I was just wondering with the release a few months back to Xbox One and PS4, has the gamer community for these console versions picked up? Or is the PC version still the own with the majority?

The console releases have gone down in population since launch I'd say, not up. The major reasoning for that is many console players (including myself) have stopped playing due to the lack of any text chat making a ton of what should be simple things (trading, grouping, guild talking, etc) and absolute nightmare.

Xbox has a huge number of people playing.

I'm seeing more and more people in craiglorn, and all 4 of my PVP campaignsare ful levery night.

Also, both consoles had more players at their launches than active PC players... each, They both had 1+ million sales and PC players are pretty much AWOL.

Consoles are also getting new players every day from price drop on game. It is $40 US in alot of places now.

Lack of text chat isn't driving away large numbers of players at all... at least not on Xbox. We have been talking in games on Xbox forever. hasn't even slowed most people down.

Agreed. On ps4 20% of players completed the level 30 main story quest. So I'd guess atleast half the console population has quit.

Everyone I know whos quit their primary complaint was lack of text chat. Im really baffled by what zos is thinking business wise

I was surprised at how small the percentages were for most of the trophies. Not many have progressed through the game. Most of the people I friended at the beginning of the console launch for ESO are always playing other games when I see them online.

The console community is steadily declining due to lack of text chat. Its a huge game with huge zones and a ton of content but feels so alone because people can't communicate effectively

Xbox NA is crowded. The main city or town in zones are heavy, and so are caves and group dungeons. It doesn't seem to be any less than when it first came out. The only difference is that there seems to be a lot more trading/buying/selling chatter now. In the beginning it was more questions on the game.

Couldn't agree more. I'm almost VR3 and not very motivated to level further. I've tried to enjoy the game without it so far and it's been a rather frustrating experience.

This could be a very successful mmo on the console, I'm really surprised to see ZOS shooting themselves in the foot here.

Goodness. The console version of ESO has been out for less than 3 months, and already the DOOMSAYERS have passed judgment and found ESO wanting.

Same thing happened on the PC/Mac side of ESO this time last year. There were many predictions made that Wildstar would be the leech that drained ESO dry, yet now even Wildstar is embracing a free-to-play model. Boy, what happened there? Meanwhile, ESO continues to chug along nicely on the PC/Mac side and, I suspect, will also continue to see success on the console side of the equation.

The DOOMSAYERS are quite hollow, it seems. Please, if the game bothers the DOOMSAYERS so much, go find a game you can enjoy and leave the rest of the ESO community in (relative) peace.

    Thank you.

Success has different meanings to some I guess. I'm sure when they launched eso on pc they planned togo b2p and everyone trying to sell their game at 75% off in under a year.

Yeah it's gone down for sure, because it's console and in my opinion, the majority of console players do not like to put much time into one game. I do, though -- I focus on one game while sometimes multi-tasking on others.

Like Zaz also said, the lack of text chat on the console (apart from slow, laggy, game-disturbing & crash-error-attracting PS messages) really does make things more difficult to simply socialize/sell things/find groups, etc. It's great to be immersed in the game, but once you've done every quest for example, you'll start to feel isolated, unless you go to Cyrodiil and engage in groups that use voice chat, which I do regularly -- but it isn't the same as text chat and if I'm honest, people barely hear me/understand me, being a scouser on EU megaserver which mostly contains Germans, French, Spanish, etc. Plus, I don't really like speaking through the mic most times and I prefer typing, but that's a personal preference of course.

I do hope it will come someday though.

    ^^ This

I see more and more ppl on X1 and i'm farting around in EP starting area on new nb

Text chat isn't a bother as have been listening n laughing to others since back on the 360, guess it just takes getting used to for some

I remember ditching the ps3 due to there being no-one speaking online in games

Obviously the release hype has died down on console and left us with a more settled community. The two guilds I am in [PS4] one is maxed at 500, the other has 200. Both have 50-60 players on a night. I see 30-50 players in Mournhold where I like to do all my bits and pieces. PvP needs more influx of players or the streamlining of servers as Azurai's Star EU seems to be the only one constantly full for all three factions.

What gives with MMO players on forums? Who just love to say,"RIP" [implant MMO game name here they are all salty about].

I noticed livestream broadcast for ESO on PS4 (ps4 live) have dropped from top 10 viewed to the bottom. GTA and Mortal Kombat are back on top which shows what console players are interested in. The trophy for level 50 Character had a shockingly low % like 5% or something. Only a handful of players are bothering to level up/past 50.

PS4 NA has like 1 full vet server and the rest are "buff" servers where a faction has complete control of the map. I use Skull of Corruption as a buff server (DC) and play on Azura Star, which is like a vet version of Blackwater Blade. The buffs are nice, the 15% exp buff alone is awesome for leveling.

Really odd that 3 out of 4 or so pvp vet servers are dead buff/carebear playgrounds and only 1 is active. Seems like a waste of time and money to keep them running. I mean I love free buffs and all but it's head scratchily stupid.

Xbox one EU server is pretty well populated. I'm in three trading guilds which are all full and one PvP guild with around 150 members. PvP campaigns are also pretty busy.
I have yet to mourn the missing text chat. Selling stuff works fine in my guilds and grouping was surprisingly smooth in my two dungeons so far.

    Bull hockey.
While text chat would be a nice option, the game is very playable if you actually take the time to use the tools provided.

Area chat, group chat, guild chat with multiple channels not to mention party chat.

What you are seeing is players are now spread out across the various zones, instead of all being piled in the starter zones.

Mute needs to work better on the xbox version

I can only speak from my own personal experience here, having played for almost a year on PC, and now on PS4 since launch. The populations in the last two silver vet areas in EP (NA server) are currently much higher on the PS4 than they were on the PC when I left. Dolmens and world bosses go down within minutes of coming back up on the PS4 and the public dungeons have tons of players around. When I left on the PC in these areas, it was becoming hard to find other players to do these without formal groupings and the vet areas were often sparsely populated.

So I've seen no evidence that the numbers are lower on the PS4 than on the PC (quite the opposite). And the population in the vet areas suggest to me that players are not abandoning the PS4 en masse as others have suggested. If the last two zones of the silver areas are this crowded, players must be sticking to the game pretty well. I'm also still making great money in my trading guilds, selling a lot of vet items and tempers.

Just my anecdotal experience, granted, but I can tell you the EP vet areas on the PS4 are FAR from the ghost towns some of these posts seem to suggest.

It baffles me how I can't mute a specific player without having to leave the voice channel. This problem occurs MOSTLY in towns in which vet ranks think it's funny to go near a crafting station, wear only undergarments, and dance while blasting annoyingly obnoxious music.

Without text chat this game will become just another Destiny on console. Sure some ppl will play it but overall it's a huge joke. Voice chat gives too much power to the trolls. Want to do a business deal? Sammy2988(fake name) is jamming music over the mic. Trying to get a set made? Davy6987(fakename) thinks it's funny to scream "yeeeeaaahhhhhhh" everytime you try to set up the deal. HAng out in Rawl'aka on ps4 NA and see what i mean. You will see a bunch of people trying to make the best of voice chat and getting over ridden by bad attitudes, rude ppl and trolls.

OP - there's quite a vibrant community on the PS4 (check the guilds), but the limitations of the voice only chat and the lousy grouping functions have kind of held things back.

It will get better though, I am sure. Text chat would be great for those of us with hearing issues, but I suppose we'll survive.

I've found that the US PS4 community tends toward younger, aggressive (and naughty!) folks, while the EU tends be older and a little more sedate.

    JMHO though.

This text chat stuff is funny. The X1 community is booming, every city I go to while looking for gear from guild traders have guys running around everywhere. All but 2 of the PvP maps get full every night. But keep telling yourselves the games population is dwingleing, maybe in year that will be true. Console gamers are accustomed to voice chat, because we have been doing it for YEARS. If it's anything it's people that went to play batman, buy they all will be back, because nothing's released until September

or its people who even in real life have to repeat themselves 10 times because people cant understand them due to how they speak or an accent.

im all for text chat being added to console for obvious reasons like zone chat that make things so much easier in the silver gold zones when you and maybe 3 other people are the only ones there and youd like some help with a world boss without having to run around looking for someone in those big zones and end up missing them as they were heading to that world boss and now the 20 minutes you waited at that world boss has gone to waste because no zone text chat.
