When can we expect race changes?

Personally, I hope that race changes never come to the game in any form.

That said, I think it will need to be done in a full update, not a patch. As simple as it sounds to some people, to me this sounds sufficiently complex that it should require an Update and possibly time on PTS. This means a quarterly opportunity.

If they do it, it should be Crown Store only, and they should fleece the player for all they have on them, ask for whatever spare change they might find under the cushions, and anything else of value they have. You've seen that commercial on TV where the guy is buying replacement blades for his razor and they send him out of the store in his underwear? That.

If it costs crowns/real money it will benefit the ones who can afford it so PVP it becomes P2W.

You don't "win" simply by having a better race. One player won't beat another simply because his race is slightly more optimal. There are also no duels or arenas in this game, so it hardly matters. I don't see any P2W what so ever.

Eh, people cry "PtW" all the time.

Get this straight, the only thing "PtW" would be finding something in the cash shop that's -better- then anything you can get in the game.

You can easily roll an alt with the most favorable race/class combination, and then spend a lot of time taking it to V14, gearing up and feeling super-effective. So if they sell a shortcut per race change in the crown store, that's not PtW. It's not better then anything you can earn in-game, its just... quicker, easier, more seductive... ;)

I still see no reason for any of my characters to switch race. Not my argonian dragonknight, not my nord sorceror, not my dunmer nightblade. But then, I play characters, not collections of stats, so... I wouldn't. Not until and unless they add more races, and I get an "Oh, this new race would make much better sense for that character idea" moment...

But as I always say, if people pay good coin for this to chase the current FotM, hey, more money in the developers war chest, more contend for the rest of us, more ESO all around!

Not quite. Race change does not really fit neatly into the game. Certainly, it can be done, and certainly, some plausible way to explain it can be created. Influence of the gods or some Daedric Prince. There is no precedent for commonly available race changing in the Elder Scrolls universe. Almost exclusively, any time this happens, it is considered a curse. If they put it in the game, that is how it should be presented. Crown Curse of Race Changing. That would be amusing.

However, I am also a business person and can figure out how to monetize things. When something does not fit naturally, and people want it anyway, that is a perfect opportunity to fleece them. Player convenience. People will pay for it, and should. Other games charge $25 for a race change, which I certainly consider to be overcharging given how much effort actually goes into doing it. 2500 Crowns is overcharging and completely reasonable.

So why does it have to naturally fit? One could argue that the natural state of TES is a single player experience. So ESO it's self doesn't naturally fit.

It all reads like mental gymnastics to justify an opinion that doesn't even need to be justified.

Even if they did respond to say it is coming Soon ™, Soon ™ could mean months to them which may not be soon enough for you. I don't see how they could implement race changes without putting in an appearance change mechanism at the same time, so it may be more complicated than we think, unless they're going to just let people have access to the character creation screen for existing characters.

If you're that itchy to re-roll, that would probably be faster than waiting on ZOS to give you a date for race change.

Race changes? Really... Personally I am opposed to being able to change your race whenever you feel like it.

If you made a decision on what you wanted to be for a specific character you either... Live with it or restart. If you could change your race whenever you pleased then you would change before every dungeon you entered so you could get some racial passives towArds a specific element of damage.

I feel the same about being able to change your class type.

Honestly, when making a character you should think about it, consider racial passives with your specific class choice, how can these benefit or hinder what I'm trying to do. Not just click and go... And start playing. Don't just read a couple players opinions on class and race selection and then decide..yep I'm going to do what they did cause they said it was the best or good. I have found that when comparing several opinions, and adding my own ideas with it... It usually results in a decision that I am happy with and enjoy.

Also keep in mind that they are Doing racial changes with the imperial city dlc/patch,

First off, you only see passives after you created a character, just saying.
Secondly, it's not our fault that ZOS changed mechanics completely with Update 7. Sure, some of us "If you made a decision on what you wanted to be for a specific character".. However, after they removed softcaps, rules changed. And what was a well-thought decision on release is now a huge mistake. You see, I probably wouldn't even mind restarting, but I have almost 13K achievements... Why should I suffer for something that wasn't really my fault? If they at least made achievements, mounts, pvp ranks etc account-wide, maybe restarting would be such a horrible option. Now it's not even an option.

Regarding classes, their descriptions are misleading, besides, once again, ZoS changes the way they perform all the time. It's unfair that we pay money and then suffer because of their very arguable decisions.

Well done for obtaining 13k achievements. However, I can guarantee you that your choice in race played no part in that. Play the race you prefer to play through aesthetics then you will never be disappointed. The minor increases from racial passives is more of an OCD option if anything.

    Cats, so impatient.

But if you hate your class, just wait around and ZOS will eventually get around to improving it. People used to make fun of my Nord tank ("Nords aren't good for anything! Their passives all suck!"). But now Nords are about to get a nice buff that will make them much better at tanking. So take THAT, you milk-drinkers!

No, I wouldn't accept that. I would say more broadly that it's "putting anything in a cash shop that is helpful or necessary in competing with other players, and that's impossible or very difficult to get in the game."

You can't put the "Sword of Awesomeness" in your cash shop and then claim that it isn't P2W because it has a 0.0000017% chance to drop off the final boss in the Dungeon of Constant Death. If there isn't a fairly reasonable way to obtain something in the game, then it's not just a "convenience item" in the cash shop.

...unless of course you count that one quest in greenshade where you find an luckless alchemy ingredient gatherer, bring his order back to the dunmer, who then uses the stuff to turn himself into an argonian by mistake trying to go khajiit...
    ;):tongue::smirk:

That stated, 2500 crowns for a race change is a completely reasonable price in my opinion, compared to what some other games charge for smaller things. High enough to make people think twice, low enough to be affordable if someone really, really wants to...

Yeah, I generally don't agree with race changes but if they significantly change racial passives they should do a one time race change for existing characters just like they do with skills when they monkey around with skills.

I'd say it's a good probability that this gets implemented through the cash shop. That way, whenever ZOS makes changes that screw races like 1.6 did the Khajiit, they stand to make a lot of money from race changes.

It's coming as soon as they can finalize how to monetize it in the P2W shop. This takes a while because they have to do market research and focus testing to find the exact right amount to gouge players such that it will be outrageously expensive and yet people will still pay for it. It's a delicate balance that needs to be just right for maximum fleecing!

P2W? I got the xp scrolls last night and didn't even notice a difference, in leveling or crafting. And that's the only thing that could possibly be construed as pay 2 w8n. Besides, people that scream P2W are usually just rear - end hurt poor people.

Ideally they'd balance the alliances first. Make sure that of the three races, one can specialize in magicka, one can specialize in stamina, and one can specialize in health/sustainability.

Any Race, Any Alliance of the Explorer Pack wasn't really enough. Alliance balance would show that there's an interdependence and synergy between the three races that makes the alliance more powerful than just being individual races vying for power.

Why is the Pact more beneficial with Argonian warriors? Why do the Mer of the Dominion really need the Khajiit? Even the Orcs of the Covenant seem overly marginalized in that story. Not enough United We Stand, Divided We Fall and too much Find One of This and One of That and Go Here.

Looking forward to this change. They start to mingle with racial bonuses, they should allow a change for people who are at point of game where you just dont restart your char.

To be honest, it shouldn't require real money/crowns, too. It's not players' fault that ZOS made players' choices worthless.

The best thing they could do at this point is to let each race pick racials out of a pool of racials. As in characters were born in different clans(orcs, nords), villages(bosmer) etc.

I understand they don't show the passives... Just as they don't show the class moves either. However there is other resources we have available that will allow you to look at such things and make decisions on a more informed stand point.

I am not for nor against changes to classes and racial passives and moves as long as they fix any mistakes that may have been created, and they don't completely 180 a racial orientated build (turning khaji to a sorc, etc,.).

You can still create great characters and achieve all your goals. They are simply attempting to balance things out, help create a diverse gaming environment., instead of just the same races for every class.

In every mmo rpg I have played this has been the exact same issue discussed, every change, every patch, Players complain that all of a sudden their favorite builds, favorite items, favorite class or race is no longer the best or op, and maybe another class can be better. But just because they have slight tweaks doesn't mean with gearing you can't achieve a similar build or set up with just a different gearing or move combination.

Trust me if players could change their race whenever they wanted, no matter the update you would see a global change to whatever they think is best and one race would begin to dominate over the battle field. Making players pay for this change would limit the numbers of changes, but would make people who are not as well off less likely to be able to constantly change their race or class whenever one may or may not be better.

No matter how bad you think zos is doing, they are attempting to improve their game, the overall experience, and make it go as intended.

I dislike the reduction in experience points needed to get a. Veteran level. Simply put... Those who grinded and quested their way to max level, could have just waited and leveled quicker, those who were slower at progressing are now able to blow through the levels at a faster rate because of the massive reduction in exp required. Adding levels is fine, but reducing the experience required, then adding levels is pointless. The extra 2 levels for a player starting at vet 1 and going to v16 with the reduction is very similar to going from 1-14 without. Those who spent the time and effort just wasted x amount of time due to the requirement going down.

That and placing items like the exp potion inside the store, yet again helps those who have lots of income, or are in better standing... They are easily able to afford mass amounts of these potions while those who can't or those who enjoy earning everything must grind for it,

I said it'd debatable that it's P2W now but even if you don't think it's P2W now it will be later. That's how these things work so I'm not going to bother waiting until then to start calling it what it is..a P2W shop. You also forgot motifs. If you focus on crafting as your main activity and now people can just buy their way to whatever motif they want it circumvents in-game play at the expense of crafters who took the time or spent the gold to collect everything. That will be even more pronounced with the ridiculous glass motif.

    Sillyness Myth busted! ;)

P2W argument? Pfffffttttt... that always comes up when people hate something about the crown store, but have no reasonable arguments against it.
As long as one can attain the same power with some time and effort, it isn't PtW. Race change will never be, since everyone can make an alt with that race/class combi, take it to max level, inherit top tier gear from their other characters, have all their c-points to boost their power...
Of course, that -does- take getting the newly made alt to max level. And it takes doing a good deal of PvP too. So... pay for advantage, yes, pay to win, no.

And as long as they charge enough for the advantage gained... I have no trouble with it. (for those crying for "free race change when passives change" - fu... uhm... forget 'em. That might have worked back in subscription times, but that ship has sailed and sunk, we have a crown store now, all those options will cost to earn the gamemakers their daily bread and server upkeep. Deal. With. It.)

Even though I at this time would see no reason to change any of my characters race... not the dunmer nightblade... not the orc templar... not the argonian dragonknight... not the nord sorceror...
