Lose all stones even if NPCs did most of the work?

Just wondering if this is by-design (thus meant to work this way)
Is it correctly that one loses all the stones if NPCs do by far most of the damage and a player aids a bit?

I assume that it would be part of the risk of going into the IC.

You and your group are in battle with one of the roaming Bosses. You get the Boss down to a sliver of health, but your group is battered as well.

In comes a group of enemy Alliance members who take your group and the Boss out, then they get all of the stones. At least; that's how the scenario plays out in my mind... but I'm probably not far off.

The other day we were fighting a mini boss and another faction player came in to disrupt it. They didn't take our stones but you can guarantee that it will be done at some point if not already.

This is exactly what I'm waiting for. I've spent some time stalking the sewers and ganking people who were at low health from PC and NPC fights. It's fairly easy pickings and a great way to earn stones quickly. I can't wait to get a good ganking group together. We can wait for some other chumps to weaken the bosses and then just come in and clean everything up. This seems to be the meta for this content, may as well embrace it.

Edit: After it goes live of course. I can't see the point in getting together a group of people just to mercilessly harass people testing the new content.

I think it was made on purpose. The whole IC is just festival of harassment and encourages all sick behaviours.

Waiting in hiding untill group takes boss down to low health then jump in, kill players and finish off boss.
Waiting in hiding to see if group will survive fight, and if they are doing too good, help them.
Waiting in hiding untill some of fighting group goes to low health just to backstab him, steal his stones and run away.

This was my fear when I read about the IC the first time...

    Thanks for the answers!

I hoped that if players only contributed a tiny part to my demise they would receive less reward. Now it encourages an assasin/stealthy playstyle instead of active combat.

As I usually play solo, it seems IC is unfortunately not meant for me.

I already wasn't excited for this and after reading this thread I doubt I'll ever even go to the IC. Thanks for saving me the hassle.
Play on PS4 I do like the game, I just feel it could be a lot better and would like to feel like the devolpers actually care about the game and not just making money

Well, it ensures that if I should ever venture into the IC, I will rarely come out of Stealth.

I have mastered the Vampire skill line, so I can all-but sprint while stealthed. Aside from the random, unfortunate combat, I don't see myself leaving stealth for the time I'm in the IC.

This evening I ventured primarily into the sewers. The playstyle is completely different from the world above ground (the various city areas).

Where the upground areas are either a PvP battle ground (group vs group) or getting attacked by an assasin/stealthy adversary when fighting mobs, the sewers seem to be primarily a PvE grounds (with very very occasional PvP). As there are a *lot* of mobs around it is quite difficult to stealth through all of them, although some good stealthy-players can do it (hence the occasional PvP).

If I read these forums correctly the sewers should have multiple levels of some sort, if that is true, I only ventured on the level where the base-access is situated. Perhaps deeper down the sewers the PvP gets more intense.

The sewers are pattrolled by boss type daedra which need a group to have a change tackling them. If you're careful these bosses can be avoided however. If you're not careful, they can one/two-shot you (I know first-hand).

It seems though that collecting stones is quicker by killing someone who has collected them for you; so for good PvP-ers the choice of collection-method is easy. For newbie PvP-ers (such as myself) the sewers are a better place to collect stones; at least if my experience of today is enough to make such a determination.

I have to say, it's frustrating as hell.

Friend and I were doing a quest in the Temple District in which you have to kill all the enemies within the Temple of the One. A couple of opposing faction players came in. They killed me and tried to kill my friend, but then realised he was useful as a Tank. So he tanked the boss while they took out the adds... but then when the boss had a sliver of health left, they teamed up to kill him and take his Tel Var stones.

Perhaps it's my British sense of fair-play, but that seems unfair to me.

Admittedly, I'm still annoyed by the time that another friend and I, at level 35, got PKed by a v14 stealth character while attempting the Bruma Dolmen. If I was the v14 stealth player, I'd let the level 35s get their Achievement and THEN kill them while they were celebrating. It just seems mean to kill other players and stop them from getting an Achievement when you're so overlevelled in comparison. I don't understand how that would provide any sense of accomplishment for the v14. "Oh, I killed a couple of idiots who were 29 levels lower than me while they were busy fighting NPCs, go me."

The same "fairness" problem seems to apply to this IC quest, and to fighting roaming bosses. By all means, attack other players when they're weak from fighting a boss. But can't you at least wait for them to have killed their boss and progressed their quest, first?

    @baratron

Griefers don't give the slightest damn about the feelings of other players, or about the fact it's a game everyone should be able to enjoy.

Zenimax have designed IC to be a greifer's paradise.

The last game that did this I played was Age of Conan, and that failed hard financially.

Let's hopes Zenimax wake up before shooting their game in both feet and leaving it populated by the dregs of the MMO community as a niche and sidelined game.
