The forum population is maybe 3% of the actual games population, thus the margin for error on a forum poll, a poll where people are more likely to click on it to begin with if they agree with the subject line, would just be impossible to calculate.
I play in the largest PVP guild on PS4 and we have an incredibly robust voice chat rule set and I never hear anyone complain about a lack of text chat. We all just use the PSN app on our phones to send direct messages outside of voice chat.
A poll on the general forums is not a scientific process - I give you ZOS' choosing not to respond to the text chat topic as proof that they already tried it, didn't like it, and will not be adding it.
It is YOU who are the vocal minority, and the general forums is where the vocal minority hang out and think themselves as advocates for the general population.
LOL the vocal minority, yet anytime this topic is brought up 80% or more are in favor of text chat.
The only vocal minority here are the ones who oppose text chat. All of you have not provided 1 good reason to not add text chat, you all whine and try to say these topics and polls hold no validity solely because your side has almost no support. While on the other many people of the community has showed they are in favor of text chat and proved ed many great reasons as to why. Which leads me to believe that you and your vocal minority are nothing more than trolls. You guys make no sense in your logic or arguments.
The topic has come up a lot and for the most part its the same people voting.
Some new, some old but its the same folks on all sides of this discussion.
Each thread does not represent new votes nor does it represent console only or and specific platform. It doesn't represent actual players, it represent customers who bought the game who have registered to use the forums.
What this poll and other forum polls do represent is from start date to current date, the number of forums participants who are interested enough during the time they are using the forums to vote one way or another.
Thats it....its something to discuss but nothing to draw financial decisions on or to determine how to spend development time.
I think we need an app for text chat.

This poll DOES NOT and SHOULD NOT be taken to assume the feedback and voices of actual, current, perspective or prior customers who may or may not have played the game on PS4 and Xbox One.
I just need to make sure we all understand that the poll results and comments do not represent the majority of any customer base nor do they provide enough feedback for decisions that will impact all customers regardless of preference.
The polls in the forums are for discussion purposes...idea generation and building upon or gathering information and perspective of a few and or some by thread and topic.

The bold part.
What's so bad is that most aren't enjoying the fact that at endgame, without text, this game will be over for most consoles. What's bad is that most of the MMO fans AREN'T enjoying the game. And why everyone is at odds with you personally is that you sound like you want the console version to fail, which it will without text. And if you're happy switching over to console from PC, then great. Awesome. But most people on consoles that are hardcore MMO fans that don't have a PC (or our PC was taken over by the 3 kids in school and their homework/summer reading), we expected an MMO. Not a version of Skyrim with kids shouting in cities that they have motifs for sale, or that you punched someone in the face for disrespecting you. Worse off, immersed in my world, doing the kings quest, in medieval times, with Pitbull and Neyo as the damn background music. And yea, 20 others shouting at the same time, they need a dungeon, but no one can hear which dungeon or what level. So now, you get blind invites to groups since people have just given up on voice chat. "I know my rent was gon be late about a week ago.... " >< /sigh.

I thought you were leaving this thread ?
Again at that.
And how many players bought it assuming it had the same feature they had come to expect from every other console mmorpg they had played ?
What about those who reasonably expected it to be built for them too ?
Zenimax themselves couldn't agree on it with them publicly posting that it would have text chat in April then retracting it.
I guarantee you there's a few devs internally who think it's stupid idea to not have text chat also.

I did. I downloaded this game plugged in my keyboard and started to play, only to realize there was no chat box. WTF. I know, call me stupid for not researching a game before buying. Silly me, thinking that an MMO would have text chat just like every console MMO since the PS2. What's next? Call of Duty with no online multiplayer?
I'd like to hear the logical argument against what I have mentioned multiple times.
I like and prefer to play the game , hearing the sounds and music that the developers spent lots of money and time on , and experience the world WITHOUT hearing shouts of babies , dogs barking , people making rude noises , or actually any sounds at all other than what the game has.
I am not alone in this. Many people play with headphones to hear just the game , and still enjoy communicating with many other people in the text chat.
Every console and PC mmorpg released so far has allowed me to enjoy the sound direction the developers chose to put in game , without being FORCED to hear others talking , and still allowed me to communicate with and make lots of in game friends.
What's the anti-text argument against this , rather logical , and normal expectation ?

They duck all reasonable arguments. Yours is a common way to play as you have noted , and I would think that the sound/music developers would appreciate that some players want to play the game hearing only the sounds of the game as you say while still getting to communicate in chat.
I use both , but at times enjoy escaping myself on the PC side and not getting on TS with my guild. But I still like to talk in guild and global chat. Just as you say all previous mmorpg's and current ones, other than ESO , (both PS4 and PC ) ,let you do.
You have a reasonable request , they (the self appointed speakers of console players even though you and others didnt elect them ) , can't have a good argument against it. They will ignore it or troll. Par for the course.

Exactly, they duck and dodge all the great reasons why text chat would be an enhancement, such as finding groups easier, selling items easier, making guild recuritment easier. Also text chat would give the deaf and hard of hearing a way to communicate with everyone else in the b game. But hey screw all that right? Lol those vocal minority that are against st text chat have no solid argument to stand on.

Its not about having a reasonable discussion. Its about being obnoxious and tiresome to the point that those they argue with call them out and then the thread gets shut down. Thats what this is all about, shutting down threads with sophism. Its why the 90+ page Pro Text Chat on Console Thread was shut down.
16BitForestCat wrote: »I only play on PC, but I have the PS4 version too because it was cheap, and my partner plays primarily on PS4, so I hear a lot of crap from voice chat. I'm actually pretty amazed there's no text chat on console! This is a game that's ripe for it, with all the group, guild, roleplay, and mercantile trade activity that goes on. I've used text chat for other PS4 games, and you get pretty quick at it with a little practice, even if you don't have a keyboard.
The obnoxiousness and flat-out abuse that happen in voice chat are so ridiculous my partner often turns chat off completely. Which means he can't communicate effectively with other players. Which can severely limit one's gaming experience depending upon what you're trying to do in the game at the time.
Just the other day, he was in Elden Root's main crafting area, a hotspot for activity and chat. A lot of people come there to do your standard trade/guild recruitment/LFG stuff. There were about a half-dozen members of some obnoxious guild there who were loudly and aggressively recruiting, to the point that they were shouting down any person who tried to speak that wasn't in their guild. It was a constant string of:
"Anyone want to buy a--"
"SHUT UP, [RACIAL SLUR], NO ONE CARES. GO KILL YOURSELF." (I heard this exact phrasing twenty-three times in five minutes. I counted. I also told my partner to take a video and report every one of those jerkwads, but I dunno if he did.)
And then there's the nasty old chestnut where a lot of female players won't use voice chat at all because of the comments they get when some cavedude figures out "there's wimmins in the chat for me to harass, hurr hurr hurr." They're very lucky you can't facepunch someone through the Internet when I hear that going on.
Abuse is much easier to deal with in text form for many people. You report and block, all without having your eardrums blown out by idiots. Why there's no text function for people who can't hear, can't speak, have anxiety disorders, don't want their sex or gender revealed, or just plain don't want to talk aloud, is beyond me.
mrskinskull wrote: »WellJustSayin wrote: »I need to follow my own advice from earlier in the thread and ignore the attention *** and trolls attempting to get another thread locked.
They've got nothing to backup their logic or ideas , there's plenty of reviews that call out no text chat as detrimental to socialization in the game , every other major mmorpg on the console has text chat , and not one poll can be produced with anything but overwhelming votes to have it as an option.
I'll try to follow my own advice also , let's just ignore the two or three trolls who keep coming back and trying to bait and who mean nothing.
Yeah, Its "baiting" the very few vocal posters opposed to having options (Yes it sounds ridiculous) could have easily voted, left a comment explaining why it wasnt a good idea for the game, and moved on. They know there isnt much support on their side of the argument so they feel the need to constantly shoot down any hopes the majority of the playerbase has for text chat. Theres no arguing "options" its silly. Cant pay em any mind because these posters are going to try to get the thread closed
Just the notion that having options is a terrible idea alone shows how unreasonable these posters are. You cant reason with them, they have an agenda. Theres no argument that can be made against having the OPTION to hide a chat window.
No one is baiting.
No one is opposed to options.
Adding text chat will cost development time better spent elsewhere.
Most casual players aren't going to bother with a keyboard. Not when mics work better and faster.
What's the point of adding a world wide chat text when most of the players will have it toggled off?
Kind of how I've been going lately.... I use to post a lot with several dozen posts per day, but now it's averaging maybe one post every day, and I've stopped playing ESO Xbox (the ONLY version I have now) entirely due to its lack of text chat. I just got fed up with ZoS refusing to admit they made a mistake. Not just text chat, but several other things. Adding text chat would bring me back to ESO, but they need to seriously rethink their whole thoughts on listening to their customers if they want to keep customers playing.Nergie4242 wrote: »
