One of the worst tutorials I have ever played.

Yes, we really need to get back the original start from the first public beta, with the long tutorial, full choice of weapons in the tutorial, obligatory starting islands (which DID have the option to leave the first one early), and slower paced leveling so you weren't constantly 3-4 levels above everything in the initial zones

When was that? When I joined, there was no way to leave the starter islands early. Bleakrock maybe, but it required skipping the entire quest (and losing the associated achievement) and later you wouldn't be able to get out of Bal Foyen anyway.

    This.
The new tutorial that seemed to be "upgraded" ( and I use the term very loosely ) when the game went B2P is appalling. They've not only messed about with the weapon choices, removed half the containers in the tutorial, and added that crappy forced and locked camera to try to handhold people through blocking and using the LMB to swing a weapon ( REALLY? People need instruction on how to press LMB?? ) but they've also completely ruined the voice acting.

It's horrible, a very bad introduction to a beautiful game, and not even a patch on what it once was.

Why would people too lazy to do the starter island in the first place worry about losing the achievment?

It isn't about laziness, it's about a free roaming Elder Scrolls experience. I wasn't too lazy to fetch the dragonstone, I just got distracted and ended up in Riften. ;)

I really don't think that weapons and armor have to be handed out (or selected) during the initial phase of the tutorial, before leaving the Bleeding Forge. They are looking to simplify this part of the game while they teach basics and the armor and weapon choices are not basic enough at this level. There should be a ton of opportunities through normal game play to get weapon and armor before arriving in Daggerfall/Davon's Watch/Vulkhel Guard.

The new tutorial is much better than the one they launched on PC and had in the first public beta. There can be no doubt of this. Even as a person familiar with both MMO and Elder Scrolls games, I found the original tutorial to be inadequate. That does not mean that they cannot continue to improve the new tutorial.

If they are not teaching about looting, they should be. I am certain that a lot of people who play are unaware of chests, urns, and other containers. They need to know they can get equipment, and worthless junk, from these things. It does not help that not all chests, urns, and containers are actually lootable. For many people, if there is not a glow or arrow to point it out, they will not know to go there. On the other hand, the need to loot will undoubtedly drive people away since there is a certain segment of the population that just wants to kill things and move on. When I see the latter in game, I am not sure if they are deliberately bypassing the loot, did not see it, or did not know about it.

I definitely need to run a character through the tutorial again.

I have always agreed that they need to drop the player in the starting island as originally intended. Rather than trying to change the main quest pipeline to make the starter islands optional by traveling back to them, they needed to make it easy and obvious how to move on to the main starting city from the starter island without doing the quests there. The starting islands were the first major quest decision of the game and it was a contained and controlled environment. The starting islands presented a limited set of options to the player.

The game, as it exists today, takes them through this very narrow and controlled tutorial and then plops them in the main city with a "stop by for a visit" quest. They step out of that building into the main city with a gazillion options, people everywhere, and endless options. All this directly from the tightly controlled tutorial. From the wading pool to swimming across the ocean.

But, the main city is where the bypass people want to start, not stuck on some island one hop from where they want to be.

In a GAME I think we can allow for some weapon diversity when breaking out. .

Since in about 5 min you will start picking up random gear and weapons, I don't see that it's a big deal which one you happen to start with. The same mechanic seems to work for weapons in general - so in that sense it would see to me to be an adequete tutorial.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I actually happen to Love the new version of the tutorial. Sure you don't get to choose your weapon but in a prison break you just go with whatever is handy... In this case it's the 2h sword (which is arguably one of the best weapons in the game anyhow). Shortly after you can loot enough by running around that you can find something to suit your personal tastes and the exp given is so minimal it's virtually irrelevant because in 5 minutes on the starter islands you'll level your items of choice above what you did int he tutorial.
It doesn't explain how MMO's function but I feel like it does a good job of explaining how to move and fight. The rest can be sorted out by hitting Escape and reading your key-bind set up.

tbh the thing that annoys me most about the tutorials are the new voices and the fact the subtitles don't match up.....am I the only one? >.>

My only issue was being given a 2 handed weapon but I soon discovered that the hallways beyond the lockpick door have nearly every weapon type. Everything else was pretty straight forward and easily grasped even though I don't play MMO's.

I started a new character last night on the AD side. Before I left the Tutorial I had my daggers for dual weilding and some armor to replace the rags I was wearing.

Everytime Ive played through the Tutorial I was either able to gain what I was looking for or close to everything I was looking for. And since youre only going to gain at most 2 levels while in the tutorial its not like areas like Kenarthis Roost, Stros M'kai and Bleakrock will not provide atleast some sort of armor to replace what you did gain or fill those holes on your setup.

Heck everytime Ive done EP Ive stumbled across some decent armor just laying about in the wilderness that I could throw on. Some of it green.

As I said before, youre breaking out of a prison. You shouldnt just be handed the weapons you want to use, youre going to get what is available. But if you keep your eyes open and search the area as you go through it youll eventually find the weapons you want.

I'm guessing the OP has never played any other TES game.

Even as an MMO, ESO functions and has the same rules as pretty much every other TES game (it actually reminds me a lot of Oblivion).

Honestly, the only party I've ever found confusing is the Grouping and Guild dynamics.

It's about as dumbed down as it could possibly get.

I do have to agree that it's hilarious that, no matter your class, you HAVE to start as a two-handed. I know a lot of people like to play a mage who uses 2 handed, but, honestly, how honest is that? No mage, ever, has ever used a two-handed weapon in TES, ever.
