So we currently have
  • Alchemy
  • Blacksmithing
  • Clothier
  • Enchanting
  • Woodworking
  • Provisioning

Considering the equipment we already have and use in-game ZOS could add a couple more crafting lines...
  • Jeweler (Crafting jewelry)
  • Tailor (Crafting regular clothing)

Now for some pie-in-the-sky ideas for future content:
  • Toxicology (Poisons & antidotes)
  • Carpentry (Furniture for Player Homes)
  • Saddlery (Mount Equipment - Saddles, Saddlebags, Armor, Boots, Etc)
  • Locksmith (Locks & Treasure Chests)
  • Apothecary (Illegal drugs, not just Skooma!)
  • Iconography (Religious relics)
  • Bindery (Books & Scrolls- Player Created) - I admit this one will never happen...

And of course... there is always
  • Spellcrafting

So, do you have any crafting skills you would like to see added to the game at some point?

Jeweler - definitely! Especially since I always want more magical weapon options other then staves - Spell Foci, Wands, Runestones, all those whould fit well with jewelry crafting!

    Tailor - add to clothier!

    Toxicologist - add to alchemy

    Carpentry - add to woodworking

Saddlery - split, saddles and bags to clothier, horse armor and horseshoes to blacksmith

Locksmith - maaaybe add to jeweler

    Apothecary - add to alchemy

    Iconography - add to jeweller

Bindery - likely not really such a good idea, let players add books...

The thing about normal crafting skills - they need enough "meat" to them to be viable. I assume that's why jeweller didn't make it - only rings and amulets does not make for much crafting. When one adds spell foci it becomes somewhat better... there are more options like crowns and they could of course always add more jewelry slots (bracelets, anklets, earrings... I'd love to have the jewelry adornments seperate from the other "structural" options in chargen and let people change those on a daily basis...)

Woodworking is also a bit of an "half" craft compared to the others in terms of things to research... though there are things that could be added. Player made siege engines. Player made furniture, once someday in the futurte ESO gets housing. Crossbows for bow, perhaps polearms too and so on...

    JEWELRY!

Having that in would be of huge benefit, even if we had to start from scratch in terms of skill level and research.

If player housing is ever added (please do it Zeni, even if it is basic at first - people need something to feel attached to so they keep coming back and a player home and/or guild hall is a good way of giving people a longer-term customisable connection with the game) then definitely include furniture/decoration making in with the existing crafts.

Spellcrafting will always be number one for me.

Jewellery would be a close second. Not just for rings and amulets though. I would like to see the inclusion of other wearable items (head slot, arm slot etc.) or even a way to work together with other crafts. For example, working with a blacksmith (or if you also have blacksmith skills) might open up the option of adding customization layers to the way an armour looks, or possibly even imbuing it with increased/alternate powers by the insetting of further runes/charged stones. Working with a woodworker (or with woodworking skills) could do something similar with inlaid previous metals etc.

I just think it might be quite a nice synthesis craft.

Composite crafting, things that are made out of multiple material types. Spears, crossbows etc....
You mean, like axes or mauls that have a metal head and wooden haft? Or staves that have a long wooden pole yet a metal and often crystal tip? Or swords that have leather wrapping on their hilts? Medium armor with metal parts - heck, the nord medium is half chainmail as I recall...

Thing is, crafting is somewhat simplified for ESO. I wish it wasn't, I wish there your be cross-skill resource requirements... leather strips for hitl wrappings, wooden parts for axes and maces, metal parts for wooden weapons and leather armor, etc. But they decided against that. And so any new crafables will also get simplified - crossbows would be woodworking, despite the metal parts, polearms might be either blacksmith or woodworking, etc.

My main desire in crafting is Jewelry.

I would love to see craftable rings and amulets... for starters. I would also love to see craftable jewlery for other slots, stuff that didn't give anything in the way of armor, but gave other benefots. Bracers in the arm slots, circlets/crowns in the head slot, might not count as srmor, but might have special abilities of its own (a crown for example could give a special group buff if worn by the group leader, bracers could give extra spell buffs, etc.). Make people choose between protection, and effect. That's four "craftables" (rings, amulets, bracers, circlets/crowns)

Then I always rant about wanting a alternate destruction/restoration casting weapon, I say "spell focus", and I mean thing like (depending on racial style) holy symbols, ornate spellbooks, welkyn stones, gemmed skulls, shamans rattles, voodoo dolls, whatever. Could be two-handed as well to not have any advantage in terms of set pieces, casting pose would be holding focus in left hand, and operating it with right hand (turning spellbook pages, making mystic gestures above the gemmed skull, whatever). That's another four craftables (fire, ice, lightning, restoration)

Ta-daa, suddenly jeweler is as viable in terms of craftable stuff as woodworking. More, even... woodworking only has six craftables right now (shields, bows, fire, ice, lightning and restoration staves - it really could use some more... crossbows and polearms come to mind... perhaps even siege weapons... heck, I'd let them craft wooden clubs for laughs... hmmm... subduing weapons, might have an idea there...)

I think if ZOS were to detach Jewelry from Character Creation and have separate earrings, headbands, facial rings... as well as racial jewelry like tail rings, tusk rings, and ear-cuffs for elves and I think there would be plenty for jewelry crafting. Iconography doesn't have to be mushed in with jewelry.

Part of my initial thought @TheShadowScout was that additional crafting would provide players with additional skills to level and things to make and/or sell. But I do see the merit in just expanding the current crafting systems we have.

So blacksmithing is metalwork which should eventually bring jewelry into the fold. You are already embedding gems in weapons and armor for effect, why not a simple ring of metal?

Additionally, alchemists are able to craft poisons. The characters simply haven't figured out how to apply them to their weapons yet instead of drinking them.

Course if they handle the application like enchanting, then it would cause hilarious cases like accidentally coating your weapon with tri-potion and healing your target.

    All of those!

We can make 'poisons' but currently they have absolutely no use other than fulfilling writs. Imaginative and useful poisons would fill out the alchemy nicely.

Spellcrafting - BIG, BIG want! My vampiric sorcerer has enjoyed making his own spells since Morrowind, it made him FEEL like a real wizard, inventing and crafting his own spells, writing spellbooks, etc. Perhaps book-binding could be linked with writing spellbooks.

Jewellery crafting - oh yeah, bring on the bling! And have it show on the character. I love draping my boys in shiny things!

Blacksmithing and Jeweller are nothing alike.
    Not even a little.
Technically a blacksmith might learn a jewellers craft too, to make "fancy" ornate weapons with gilded hilts and set gems... but many didn't, and made their swords guards and pommels functional and plain.
But where a blacksmith pounds red hot iron into shape, a jeweller pours molten silver and gold into forms. Where a blacksmith tempers and sharpens the formed steel, a jeweller will cut rough gems and set them. Two completely different skill sets.
Heck, back in medieval times, even the much closer related blacksmith and coppersmith were two different skills...

Alchemists could use a much wider range of ingredients. I am really missing eye of newt and blood of toad here - send us to farm critters for alchemical components! And then more potions, many more potions... including proper poisons, not mere potions so bad they make you sick... I want to see more then just DoT... how about a character that has to stop to barf every ten seconds? Make it worth to carry antidote potions (oh, another thing to add...)
...and some way to make potions not for drinking, but for application to weapons... maybe a differnet solvent? Something sticky, so it, well, sticks to the weapon?

Also... healing potion covered swords... that is just too funny a thought! Could be useful for faking a murder though... ;)

@AlienSlof, I have an unposted concept for poisons that add subtle damage& debuffing effects that are directly related to a players health. Small regular damage that increases as a players health decreases, continues after death and lasts for a longer period of time (10-60 minutes). I'm not sure if it would "fit" an MMO... but it's an idea. : wink:

@TheShadowScout, I thought a bit about adding additional crafting skills to existing crafting skills. One of the benefits to adding new crafting skills is adding more skills for players to level. That really seems to be the biggest reason to add more skills.

ZOS could just increase the crafting levels to 100 and tag these onto the back end of existing crafting to add continued crafting leveling but I kind of think that at that point they should just make additional crafting skills separate.

If additional leveling isn't what ZOS or the community wants then more motifs/recipes/etc added to the additional crafting skills is completely the way to go and it would enable players to craft the new items right away!

Oh, and you are completely right about player made books. That was me just... dreaming. :smirk:

The only one I could see being added as a new craft would be Spellcrafting which could include Iconography and Bindery. All of the others listed would tie into the existing crafting abilities. Blacksmiths should be able to make Jewelry, keys, locks, hinges & nails just like in Skyrim. Carpentry is part of woodworking, Tailoring/saddlery is part of clothing/leather working and toxicology/apothecary is alchemy. These are all changes they could make when/if player housing and being able to apply poisons come in.

They could take Iconography with Bindery and combine it them to make Spells for Spellcrafting. By taking a religious relic and deconstructing it and using that with bindery to make a Spell Scroll it would open up a new profession that some would really enjoy. These religious relics could be found anywhere in the game with different strengths for different levels.

It will be really interesting to see where they take professions down the road and if they expand on the existing ones or just make new ones.

I hear you! It took me 13 months to get through all of the trait research the game has offered. @ZOS needs to rework the existing traits instead of adding in new ones. There's plenty of traits that could be tweaked to give more of a choice instead of just infused, reinforced and divines.

We don't need anymore traits added to the game....
