Root vs Dodge - is it balanced ?

Take a magicka DK that spams his AOE root, and his prey who spams his dodge roll to escape the root. Who is supposed to win at the end?

There is no immunity to the CC root effect. Dodge rolling to escape the root costs a lot of stamina, and the cost has been increased by 33%.

This needs to be closely monitored, otherwise Dark Talon will become way too powerful and the PvP metagame boring.

This was also one of my first concerns when I heard about this system - dark talons but also FEAR.

For instance, a magicka NB opens up combat from stealth and does his standard burst rotation, and then he fears his opponents and lands a few more hits, then he cloaks up for 5-6 seconds until the CC immunity wears off the target, and then he rinses and repeats. Now, under sane circumstances, the target would have to block when the NB stealthes up to avoid the next dps burst, only this time, he can't regenerate his stamina while doing it, so the NB just waits untill the CC immunity is off, jumps back in a fears again, followed up by a dps rotation. Rinse and repeat = easy win..

Do you see how effectively a NB can deplete someone's stamina and get that invevitable and guaranteed win in a 1v1 situation now when the target can't really block or retaliate properly? It was an issue in 1.6 (especially with fear being unbreakable sometimes due to a bug), but in 1.7, this will only get worse.

Patch 1.6 was the sorcs and NBs meta... and patch 1.7 will be the exact same thing (only worse and more imbalance as it stands now).

Baphomet, most builds recover more stamina in those 6 seconds than they've lost by breaking free. I'm not sure your scenario is realistic at all. Anyone that leaves his target alone for 6 seconds at a time will either lose the fight or go into a stalemate.

Maybe on Live this is a problem due to high burst, so you can burst down someone, disappear and then burst someone down again, with a high chance of killing them. But that is no longer possible on PTS.

Not so sure... I am still seeing concealed weapon doing 7-8 k of damage.

Nope, rolly pollies usually come out on top in 1v1 situations on PTS. Dodge out of the first root, then sit in the next one and heal through most bust w/ vigor/rally, then timer's reset and they can dodgeroll again. Especially in IC where 2-3 dodge rolls is usually enough to LOS and escape.

Biggest root counter in the game is purge. That is why in big fights roots are almost useless. Have you seen what 3-4 dedicated purgers can do?
    Because I can!

Magicka builds will recover their stamina in these 6 seconds. But stamina builds may be won't unless they have a ton of stamina regen. Yesterday, I tried the 3-stats buff, instead of the regen drink. Well, I just tried for 10 minutes or so, because I sadly rely too much on stamina regen.

Magicka DK can't infinite block and mitigate damage now, so the talon chain would be probably far less useful than in live. Just control the DK and burst him, I don't think he will be able to chain-use talon without dying.

For fear, 6 second is enough to heal you, and you can use magelight, detect potion, revealing flare, caltrops or other aoe to reveal him. And like the other said, every good magicka character can break free each 6 second.

You can still dodge every 4 seconds if you dont want to sacrifise an increase.

I think, DKs have it hard now where whip is dodgeable. I say, leave them their root as it is. DKs really rely on this and it's not too strong in my opinion, they don't have a good class charge or mobility. So allow them to keep their enemies next to them.

And you can always purge them and purge is available for everyone and also give you 10% Magicka regen when you equip it. Purge stops the root and the next roots and CCs within 6 seconds only last half as long. Make use of this tool if you have problems with roots :) Roots should have a special place in this game, just like fear. Even though I think, fear is a bit over the top at the moment.

You could also use an "exploit" (something that powerfull must be an exploit) combo to have 100% reduction on negative effects on you> CC immunity 24/7

    Retreating Maneuvers

Nightblades keep telling me, a magicka user to use Immovable because of fear, at least you people have it easy with all that cost reduction.
