    Comprise idea:

Instead of adding a text chat box (this I'm not in favor of and from the comments it seems that "text chat" is assumed as such by those who want the feature)....

can we all agree on adding text chat bubble and a text chat box within the social menu?

-I'm also not for a text zone chat but could fully support text chat bubbles (with item linking)

    Another idea is:
    On console only:
Open up text chat (not in a text box on the normal UI screen while playing but within a social menu)
-this would function, look and work just like the PC version of text chat with one exception. It's in the social menu

    Please comment, etc.
trying to compromise my opinions and hopefully at least get you all for text chat another official response from ZOs

*Ill post this in the other thread too*

Finally to hear some compromise from you is actually refreshing. I mean I never understood the anti text crowd and their obstinate behavior, even in light of how many people are being shut out, turned off, or ignored. Never was it asked by pro text for voice to be removed but instead used in conjunction to further the game. I would be totally down for this method of having a chat box in my game. Again so long as it would be zone wide chat and everyone can see it to make grouping easier until they fix the damn thing. Plus once we get into the small group we are using voice chat. Brilliant idea and all for this, it keeps the screen clean, allows those with disabilities to partake in the game, and makes everyone happy. Not sure if they would add the linking thing, would be nice, but hell I would settle for a zone wide text chat box in the social menu and would cry tears of joy.

Well I don't want text because, like I've already said, when I walk into a town and no one is talking, the town feels dead. Sometimes the area chat is annoying, and I never talk in area chat in these towns because I just PvP and have no use for anyone in these towns, but it makes the towns feel alive.

Interesting, you don't use the voice chat, but prefer it stays and do not give the option to those who would prefer to chat via text any option. Granted those could be various reasons, personality issues, disabilities, speach impediments, etc. So even if something wasn't on your screen affecting YOUR gameplay, you wouldn't want it added so that others can enjoy the game you enjoy as much. Even though you only pvp and don't use voice chat.....Again I still don't understand those against adding text, and how they are so obstinate and one sided thinking only of themselves instead of others. Besides when I walk into town, I hear inane garbled chit chat, loud music, dogs barking, rude comments, game feedback, babies crying, a wife asking her mate to drive her to work and get off the damn game, etc etc etc. Hardly the immersive feeling i would like to feel when going into a medieval based town. Which is why I shut it off because of the people who use it to pollute the airwaves with usless crap, most do not for this very reason. By making this the only form of communication, they have effectively shut out many players and diminished their game. An mmo needs as many social aspects brought in as possible. Take a page from Blacksmurf, albeit the last pages ;p, and learn to compromise, the game isn't just about YOUR experience it is the experiences of YOURS and OTHERS that make and mmo thrive.

So do you have a stutter or a hearing disability? So please keep acting like you are taking the high ground and fishing for the special needs crowd. You want it for your own selfish reasons, just like me. And yes I like the atmosphere of a town when people are talking than when they aren't. And I PvP and I don't want that getting into PvP. Where some people are texting and some are talking and the communitions break down quickly. So yes it WILL effect me and my gameplay experience. And walking into town IS my gameplay experience as well.

soooo unless I have said disability or other issue I cannot advocate for the crowd. I guess I need to have HIV in order to advocate for it, or be autistic, or have down syndrom, or have a thick accent or simply be shy. Silly argument is silly. Those in favor of text do so because it will bring the game together and allow more people to be social, and for an mmo you want the social.

    GAME ON!

    lets go!

Edit: I've not spent much time thinking on how to have it added in a way that meets many sides of the comments and arguments as this really wasn't of interest to add. I kept hoping someone would take this by the horns and do this....BUT I think that's a false hope.

I do hope to end the arguments and nasty comments but instead provide a meaningful idea up for discussion with forum members and maybe ZOS if they have an interest.

    Hope this helps you guys/gals

I have to disagree with you and most people here who say what about Deaf and hard at hearing players. The only reason you are using them as a example here is to push that you want text chat added and for no other console game you would be asking for them to add text chat for them.So using them as a example is hypocritical and you all know it.

Additionally I agree with Smurfs compromise and would be totally fine with them adding it if I can use smart glass to type instead of having to buy a keyboard.

So you're going to run up to all 500 people in a zone and ask them 1 by 1 in prox chat if they want to kill this boss, do this dungeon etc? I'm pretty sure typing 3 sentences in 20 seconds on my keyboard is faster than random voice chat with people who don't even have a mic plugged in...

Nope, just switch to voice guild chat and ask all 120 people in my guild at the same time.

I don't know what guilds you're in, but with all the ones I've ever been in so far on PS4 (even the big ones), only a few people from the guild are on the channel at any given time.

I am in 2 PvP guilds which are quite active every night on PS4 in Cyrodiil.
Luck of the draw I guess.

Even though I can plug in a USB keyboard, it is awkward on console with controller in one hand to type with the other, unlike PC where I am already using keyboard and mouse is on flat surface.

I am all fine with it taking a little longer. I am down for this game to remain unique and inclusive. I love the clean UI, and this is a way to keep it clean while providing people with what they want. I mean seriously the reason I turn off voice chat most of the time is because it is annoying as hell, but I have hear the argument and agree, that seeing someone spam "leatzorz4hire is a ***," twenty times in a row because someone got pissed they got scammed out of a vamp bite is just as annoying. I would like to have the option for both and the option to not partake in both if the mood hits me. I turn of voice chat because of all the crap that floods the airwaves. I would also like the ability to close the social window and focus on my game if some moron is flooding the chat screen with useless text.

No other mmo game on console that I can think if lacks this feature. There has already been people stating they have issues socially, or with speaking/hearing, so again for whom I advocate and decide to support isn't nulified simply by the fact that I don't have said issue. We all come from one side or the other, I want this in game, because yes I will use it, as well as voice, but this will allow others to enjoy the game as much as I am. So the argument still stands, and just as it has been stated before if only one person was excluded as a result of some issue, isn't it better to find a compromise and bring that person into the fold instead of keeping them in seclusion? I see the compromise as a good start in that direction and bringing the social aspect of this game together is better than keeping it fragmented.

I was just thinking eso needs a way to get more hyperbolic, over reacting, emotional, bigoted, troll happy, knee jerks into a game community that is awesome and connected already.

You know what would be better? Let's give all those guys a way to reach everyone all at once.

People hate having to mute one bad actor close to a way shrine dancing to hammer time, move away or ask him to stop. Or if its a Friday night dance as well.

I was hoping there would be a kind of area chat that allow all of the awful political arguments, rolling rp nonsense, giant conversation text blocks to flick in the corner of my eye while I'm in the middle of a dungeon.

Because my raid crew loves it when I have to dig out the keyboard, plug in the usb, type /ignore, uhnn, what's the gamertag, uhnn, posertroll112? OK. Let's game guys, oh sorry. You died? And it was posertroll11112?

Oh .I'm sorry guys I will res in a minute. A bunch of people are arguing with the guy I ignored in text, so now I have to ignore them too. No I don't regret text chat. Just go on without me.

I'll be busy for a while. I'm kinda like a full time mod now. Every play session. All play sessions.

Im all about the uniqueness. Thats why Ive suggested, to go without chat for Cyrodil and Zone, add chat to Group and Guild. Add placeable NPC recruiters to get into guild/group and guild invitations.

umm you do realize that the chat window would be inside the social tab of the menu, that is the compromise being suggested. I am all for that compromise because it allows both sides to partake or not partake and gives options for those who want to use both instead of just one. So I know that text with have its annoyances no different than voice does, and for the record I have heard religious/political garbage in the voice chat. So you don't have to go get your dusty ol' keyboard out, and if the text in the box is bothering you so then you can close the tab and get back to gaming. You can continue to do what you have been doing and that is using voice only and be the awesome mod you are, live and let live.

As you suggested it so far I am all for, no doubt there would be room for improvements but hey this is ZOS, baby steps lol. Lets let them atleast introduce the chat box into the social menu and have it be a train wreck, a somewhat workable train wreck, like the group finder, and then we can cry for more improvements. I just want it in at this point, and to be honest, if they implement voice chat into pc and at the same time ignore text chat for console I think there would be an uproar. I see them putting them in at the same time.

Yes. I have had the "pleasure" of hearing all those cheap headsets. Apparently so cheap, they don't even come with a mute button for the mic.

the text chat box is gonna be in the lower left corner , its gonna be transparent unless highlighted, its more than likely gonna be minimizable, ignoring text is 100% easier than ignoring 10 people yelling in voice chat.

hell you know how easy it is to ignore text chat, i was playing the game questing and i had some guy following me shooting spells at me while i was questing and i didnt think anything of it than when i go to turn in the quest i finally notice they sent me group invite and its been there sitting on my screen right above my skill bar for atleast 20 mins.

Text chat! its amazing stuff and will make the game better for all!

soooo unless I have said disability or other issue I cannot advocate for the crowd. I guess I need to have HIV in order to advocate for it, or be autistic, or have down syndrom, or have a thick accent or simply be shy. Silly argument is silly. Those in favor of text do so because it will bring the game together and allow more people to be social, and for an mmo you want the social.

You aren't advocating for it for them. You're not like I love voice chat, but man I really wish the special needs people could get text chat. YOU want text chat for YOURSELF, you are using special needs people In an effort to get what YOU WANT. And that's just sad. Just be a man and say I WANT IT for reason x, don't hide behind people with special needs. Just be a man about it

It IS easier for more people Socialize if they added Text Chat and that's a fact.

Like I said you wouldn't ask for Text chat for any other console game so Deaf players can speak so you shouldn't do so here it makes you a hypocrite.Like I said I like the compromise and I would gladly support it.

No I don't play FPS or other social games outside of mmos. But if there was a person in there that felt as strongly about it they should be pushing for it. So this doesn't make me a hypocrite because I am not going to every forum of every console genre to support in game text chat for the social aspect of their game. Again, argument still stands that secluded people isn't the right way to go for an mmo.

The console version seems so lonely and empty without people communicating . Most people on consoles don't have there mics hooked up for one reason or another, and since the game has no other forms of communication you get zones full of people bUT most of them aren't communicating.

We need both voice and text chat to effectively communicate in this game.

Text Chat should be added in all and most Console MP games, however it isn't as useful as voice chat for the most part. However games like MMO's are the exception.

You are using people with special needs to get what YOU want. This a forum, those people are more than capable to come here and speak for themselves, you know using the same form of communication that you are advocating for. They don't need you're help, they can fight their own battles. Just because they have a disability doesn't mean they need a big man like you to take care of them. Now just tell us why YOU want it, and how it will be implemented that doesn't mess things up for people like me (see how I said me and claimed ownership of my own opinion and not fighting a battle for the illiterate people of the world, because they actually can't come here and fight their battle), that doesn't want text to mess up a game I love. And stop telling us how you only want this to help feed the starving kids of Africa.

No i'm not, I'm just stating facts.

It's a FACT that it's easier for people with special needs to communicate with Text. I'm as much using people as giving money to the cashier so I can use them to get my food then yes, I'm "using" them.

You're the one whose using Special needs in your argument, not stating facts.

There are people who do not care to be apart of any form of communication. I have 5 ppl I play with on my friends list on Xbox that I've never heard talk...Destiny, Diablo 3, TESO or BF4 but they are good players.

No idea why they never partake in conversations but that's up to them.
As my compromised suggestion...did you have ideas about that suggestion or maybe do you have your own version that is something the community hasn't discussed on this topic?

Don't speak for other people, speak for yourself. Like I said, be a man, form your own opinion and own it. Try to turn it however you want. It makes you a small man to use people that live a more challenging life than you or I in an effort to get something you want. Trying to help people is doing something without wanting to get something for yourself that benefits you in return, other than the satisfaction of helping someone. You aren't trying to help them, you are using them to help yourself. I'm sorry you don't understand how doing this makes you a bad person, it isn't my job and this isn't the place to make you a better person. So let's just move on, and again, tell us why YOU want it and how YOU think it can be properly implemented
