718 fish, 1 perfect roe? ZOS your idea of a sick joke?

Death_Prophet83
So title basically says it all, I understand that playing an mmorpg isn't going to be the instant gratification train. But seriously the amount of time invested farming all those fish in possibly the most boring fishing mini game ever created for such a low turn around is ridiculous. Every other crafting profession rewards oranges at a reasonable rate of return, why in god's name did you make perfect roe so stupidly hard to acquire. Oh wait because this is ZOS, not Bethesda studios, you're about money, not fun and immersion. WTB Fallout 4 sooner. NTY IC

RNG. After THOUSANDS of fish this is my experience.

This morning I got three or four perfect roe from four fishing holes.

I have filleted 600 fish at one sitting and gotten NONE.

There is an add for filleting fish and it tells you the total number of types of fish filleted, the # of roe from them and how many fish of that type.

After thousands and thousands of fish my average is 1% but obviously that is over a long time. You will average to that eventually.

Yup RNG can be a mean b****. One of my buddies turned in 100 gold keys for the undaunted pledge chest and didn't get one single boss shoulder, not even one with a crappy trait. I for one have bad luck with RNG for nirn crux in craglorn. Been doing writs and farmed for it and have yet to get one. Ended up buying nirn crux cause I was not gonna keep wasting my precious time that I can play eso farming mats when I can farm Cp instead :D

The problem is the RNG in ESO seems to exhibit something known as "clumping" which could be the sign of a poor random number generator. There are many ways RNG can be done wrong. A common mistake is assuming that rolling 4D6 is as easy as (rand()%6 + 1) + (rand()%6 + 1) + (rand()%6 + 1) + (rand()%6 + 1). If ZOS has code like this they're doing it wrong. The reason is most random number generators try really hard to make subsequent calls different. In real life a die doesn't care what was previously rolled on it. But on a computer that's not the case. That pattern of bits that can give you a '5' are actually less likely to give you a '5' on the next roll. It's not a lot, but it affects the outcome. This is because computers can't generate random numbers, they can just generate very, very complicated feedback loops that look random but there are sometimes patterns in them. Which leads to another common mistake -- using the low bits with a mask. Zenithar help us if their check for the 0.8% chance of Perfect Roe is actually coded to be something like (if ((rand() & 0x007f) == 1)) because that's just asking for poor random results.

Ultima Online used to have "power ticks". You'd be busting ass trying to raise points, get nothing... nothing... nothing... then 3 or 4 all in a row. ESO reminds me of that sometime. I've refined 3 ore and got three gold temps in a row. Then I refined several stacks after that, some not even getting ingots at all. The RNG seems to flow in waves.

Take heart my friend. RNG is quite random indeed, and I get similar drop rates for all rare items. After playing seven months I got all of one legendary drop and that was a kuta in one of those sacks you pull occasionally from the murky depths. Just know that you are not the only player who has been cursed by the gods of random generation. As far as I am aware, there isn't any way to earn their favour, as their blessings are very random indeed.

I've heard that it makes no difference. There's apparently some tool/addon that will pull up the odds for getting it and it isn't based on your skill. It's just a random chance. I've filleted about 300 fish and gotten two so far so I'm about "average" on getting them.

Where's the LOL button. random is random and even if it takes 1000 and you get 1, you still have other people that gets 5 or 10 within 100 fish filleting.

Based on your post, I could see why RNG gods hates you.

Heads, Heads, Heads, Heads, Heads .... still a 50% chance of getting Heads unless its a two headed coin

The drop rate averages out to about 1 in 50.

That doesn't mean you will get 1 every 50 fish, that means every fish has a 2% chance of dropping a perfect roe - so you can gut hundreds and get none, or gut 50 and get 3 - but over a large sample (thousands and thousands of fish gutted) it will about even out to 1 in 50.

If only you could fillet those green/blue fishes for an increased chance of obtaining Perfect Roe.... At the moment catching one of those is a bad thing instead of a "lucky moment".

@Zos @ZOS_GinaBruno any chance to change those green/blue fishes to also be filleteable?.

Also, the gold bags, theres only crap in them, put something usefull inside, a gold temper would do.

No it isn't a bad moment, I have 8 characters and can use those blue/green fish towards their fishing achievements. Perfect Roe is a welcome side effect for those of us who fish anyway, not the main event, so don't diss our fishing trophies!

Incorrect you can no longer put the trophy fish in the bank, I tried (ps4), so if you want master angler on all your toons, your going to be spending loads of time fishing

I've been saving all the common fish I catch while working on the Master Fisher achievement so I can have a massive fish-skinning party once I'm done. With less than 3 zones left, I have over 7000 fish sitting in the bank, waiting to be skinned. Needless to say, it's getting pretty stinky in there. :*

.....right........on PC you can put it on the bank (just did now on a Green trophy fish for my alt), so you need to be in contact with support if this is happening on PS4. Otherwise, don't spill false info.

Me and my partner caught and filleted maybe 5000 fish (did not log the exact number). For the first, let's say at least 4000 fish, we got 3 perfect roes. 3.

The day before yesterday we went on another fishing trip. This time, we got 6 perfect roes between us two with altogether 250 fish.

Yesterday we went off again to that location (Alik'r ocean beaches) thinking we have found a good spot. After 4 hrs and 800+ fish: Zero perfect roes.

Morals of the story: She is a greedy b**ch mistress, Lady Luck, yes she is...
