Soul Magic stuck at Lev. 3

So, I even unlocked the morph of soul trap and placed it on my secondary bar together with all the other skills I need to power level (I switch to it right before completing a quest). Every other skill and skill tree levels up apart from Soul Magic. What am I doing wrong? Why wouldn't it level up? I need it to get to lev 6 for the ultimate...

It levels up as you complete the main quest.

Every 5 levels you get a quest at the Harborage, assuming you completed the previous quest. Every quest you complete from the harborage, you get a rank in Soul Magic.

None of the guild or world skill lines advance based on gaining XP with skills equipped.

Vampire raises based on your raw XP gains, but the equipped skills don't modify it at all.

Werewolf raises by 5 points for each kill while wolfed out.

Legerdemain raises based on picking locks, picking pockets, and fencing or laundering items.

Soul Magic advances as you complete main quest pieces.

Mages' Guild advances from finding Lorebooks.

Fighters' Guild advances from killing Daedra or Undead. I never remember to check and see if skilled tracker causes you to gain XP for werewolf kills... someday I'll remember.

Undaunted increases as you finish Dungeon achievements, complete dungeons, turn in Pledges, and (I think) kill dungeon bosses.

No idea on consoles. If you're on a console try hovering over the skill line progress bar immediately below the name of the skill line on the skills screen. On PC that brings up a tool tip that tells you how to level that skill line.

Hmm, I see. How do you select things on the screen then? Do you just tab* from one selectable item to then next? If so, is it possible to select the skill line itself? I don't know, I don't play a lot of games on consoles largely because I don't like having to deal with the controllers... Give me a mouse and keyboard any day!

*yes, I know you wouldn't actually be using a tab key for that, but one of the controller buttons or direction pads...

Gah, I played Skyrim on console first and switched to playing it on PC later. I hated the way the menus were on console... I feel for you

If I had a PC that could keep up with it I would definitely play ESO on PC. Loads more buttons, loads more of add-ons (skyshard, lorebook, resource locations, equip and skills presets etc), access to tester server etc etc....

There's no text anywhere on the menu telling you about the skill line you've highlighted and how it advances? Pressing select or one of the other keys isn't bound to giving you more info?

Sorry, I'd probably be more helpful if the console UI was actually up and running on the PC build right now.
