Imperial city Prison / white gold tower

A very short question :

Are the prison & white-gold tower veteran modes different from the normal modes? Just looking at the achievements says that's not the case.

    I'm also confused about the new dungeons - if you pick up the pledge it doesn't state it is "Veteran" ALSO it states "you can only complete the gold key challenge in veteran mode" but no where in my quest tracker does it explain WHAT the gold key challenge is? Maybe I'm missing something

    I don't know yet either. We just tried the IC Prison one and gave up one first boss. So boring. Maybe we missed something, but no mechanics. Looks like they just took the lazy dev direction of upping the power and hit points of something and not anything strategic or mechanic wise. Let me know if someone figures out a mechanic we missed, but after kiting him around constantly forever while we killed all the mobs in order to finally get him down we were all asleep at the keyboard.

    @Mursa Does this mean the mechanics of normal are the same as veteran except for the hard-mode challenges? and/or are the mechanics in the vet versions just ramped up in strength/timing?

    Thanks btw for your input! :)

    Edit: Actually just found my answer in another thread:

    Same bosses and trash mobs. More skills used by vet bosses and trash. More in line with the way dragonstar arena changes in difficulty. Even the trash is significantly harder on vet.

    Achievements

    @Denaia

    In your Achievements window, the Achievements that appear under "Group Dungeons" can be completed in either the Normal or Veteran mode of White-Gold Tower and Imperial City Prison. The Achievements that appear under "Veteran Dungeons" can only be completed in Veteran mode of either Dungeon.

    Pledges

    @MissBizz

    The main objectives for both Pledges can be completed on either Normal or Veteran Mode, which is why "Veteran" doesn't appear in their name.

    The Gold Key Challenge for both Pledges can only be completed on Veteran Mode, and like many previous dungeons, the challenge is the same as the Hard Mode achievement. The optional Gold Key Challenge will appear on your Quest Tracker and Journal when you step into a Veteran version of either Dungeon.

    Difficulty and Mechanics

    @xaraan

    So, it sounds like your group was fighting the first boss of Imperial City Prison, the Overfiend. Like the first boss in most of our Dungeons, the Overfiend is not meant to be an overly complex encounter, it is more of a check, specifically on Veteran mode to see if your group has ample damage, healing and basic group cohesion to continue in the Dungeon. As you progress to later bosses, White-Gold Tower and Imperial City Prison have some of the most complex group challenges in the game.

    That being said, the Normal mode was built to allow players to see the mechanics and experience the content, while the Veteran mode was built to be a challenge and provide some of the best rewards in the game.

    I definitly love your current vector in PvE. It's great that you can let all know the story and pass it in Normal Mode and push us to limits in HM without it's intentional nerfing because of those who need just a story and don't want any challenge! :)

    I have to second this. The mechanics design and combat are a LOT more interactive in the Imperial City content I've seen so far, and I love the intention of using the first boss as a rough check along with Veteran level being used as the "hard mode" for good gear, while still allowing a lesser difficulty for people to see the content with and still be challenged on "normal".

    If this is a taste of things to come in further DLC updates like Orsinium onward, and it's this well done in what wasn't the primary focus of the big bad PVP DLC (which is very good so far on PTS, by the way <3), I am very excited to see what's next! Props all the way around thus far: @ZOS_BrianWheeler looks to have killed it on the PVP changes and the City itself overall, @Mursa and the dungeon team looks to be hitting a nice stride, @ZOS_ChrisStrasz has done well with the API changes and I imagine along with the rest of the devs involved on the UI will be doing good work with it on an ongoing basis (the Imperial City PTS has a large number of UI refinements, tooltip clarifications and useful info, and other changes for usability along with improved icon artwork). @ZOS_GinaBruno & @ZOS_JessicaFolsom have been doing a great job of keeping up with the vast majority of big concerns/questions lately, I have to say, to boot. EDIT: The itemization tweaks, changes, and additions are a very big deal towards both customization, balance, and hybrid options, too in this patch... I don't know Eric Wrobel's @ name or he'd be tagged :p.

    Buy the team a batch of cookies, @ZOS_RichLambert... you've all earned it ;).

    Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

    What type of rewards besides the undaunted helms? Dark Embers?

    The mechanics are extremely interesting in both dungeons. We recorded our runs in both Dungeons in Veteran mode. feel free to check them out!

    Each dungeon contains 6 new dropped sets. For a total of 12 new sets.

    Also, the last boss of each Dungeon has an associated Monster Mask. The shoulders for those sets still drop out of the Undaunted Daily treasure chests.
