Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood being DLC?

Doesn't bother me at all, the more buyable (non Buy-To-Win) content they add the better the game will fare. If they need to start laying off even more developers, artists and codewriters because they're giving away stuff for free all the time, it doesn't help the game either.

What I find weird is that people keep expecting freebees from a corporation. If you don't want to make the rich richer, then don't buy their products. As long as we behave like consumers they will treat us like consumers.

I thought people complained about the b2p model because they didn't want p2w. Yet here you are, openly advocating for the crown store to sell skill. I'm so confused.

Its all fine, they have to make money in order to finance their further development. I will happilly pay for the new content.
  • Chris_Maliwaukiub17_ESO
No one should be complaining about this being DLC. Blizzard did it with starcraft 2 and the separate races. It's something all game companies do.

It would be nice if the game had everything ever at launch and it was completely free. But this is real world and video game development is expensive. I don't mind paying for content I'll enjoy.

Also, lol at @JamilaRaj. Crying about freeloaders only makes you look foolish. Some of these people probably spent more money on this game than you did.

It's only natural, they have said many many times that after going b2p any new content would be DLCs, so why is it a surprise to anyone that new content (thieves guild, dark bro-hood) are going to be DLC?

Don't mind. It's part of the game if you sub. Fine by me. Tired of folks always wanting something for nothing. If the folks that enjoy this game now subbed when it wasn't F2P maybe the game would have been able to survive with the subscription model. IMO the community reaps what it sows.

Had the game kept its sub these would have been part of the game, so anything they consider to be content will be DLC's from now on, the only thing we e get we don't have to pay for is patches to fix things and we see how often they do that now.

I hope they don't make any further progress behind paywall like in Age of Conan which is free until you reach a certain level than you can choose to quit or pay.
You miss the lol button? It has been taken away for a reason. And the reason is how people used it for bash others who didn't share their opinion.

Support the company, pay the eso plus membership fee which helps fund design and development of this already huge world, and get all your dlc included. Then you wont be bothered.

I'm really hoping for daily missions from the TG and DB like the crafting writs or undaunted edges.

Everyone needs to also keep in mind what they said at Quakecon, that Imperial City offered closure to the Molag Bal storyline, and this freed them up to develop NEW storylines for future content. So I fully expect that both DB and TG will offer completely new storylines and undoubtedly new areas as well.

Depends on how good it is I guess?

GW2 had some pretty huge content patches, that did not require having to pay dlc when it was released. (you do after awhile if you want to catch up with the story.)

I am on the wait and see.

You do realize that ESO Plus subscription INCLUDES all DLC's, right? Also, they do patches every couple of weeks, mostly minor, some major, but these patches are pretty frequent- better than other MMOs I've seen that only do patches once a month. Also, I hate to keep reiterating, but console launch took a huge part of their development team, after launch, those teams are free to work on future content and bug fixes- so what occurred 'in the past' is, well, in the past. There was ESO 'pre-console launch' and now we have ESO 'post console launch'... two completely different eras IMO.

Let's also not forget that with the release of IC comes the very large, update 7, which from all indications will include some major changes, particularly to PvP, but some racial changes, Mundus buffs, combat changes, etc.

It's extremely unlikely new zones will be added very DLC.

What this says. Orsinium, Murkmire, and Clockwork City. If there are other new zones being worked on, they have kept that information to themselves. Given that we have only seen details about one of the new zones, a mere 25% of the content we know about, it is unlikely that they are very far along on other DLC zones.

I am pretty sure that Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood content will overlay the existing world. In the tradition of Imperial City, the update will include paid DLC and no-extra-charge base game content. Everyone will install it. This will represent a new challenge for them in terms of controlling access to the DLC content since a person who has DLC access will be able to do, possibly see, different things in the same world compared to the person who does not.

Also in the tradition of the Imperial City, I think we will find that the Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood places may already be in the game. They may appear as unused buildings and compounds that people come across.
I hope they don't make any further progress behind paywall like in Age of Conan which is free until you reach a certain level than you can choose to quit or pay.

Probably not the paywall you are thinking of, but future progress will eventually be placed behind a paywall. Eventually ESO v3 will come out, and that will be a paid expansion in the $60 range. It will include new areas, new quests, and it would not surprise me if it included a level cap increase above 50.

(ESO v3 and a possible level cap increase is why I think they need to get rid of Veteran Ranks. Itemization tied to Veteran Ranks mucks things up if the level cap increases from 50.)

If it were still a sub-only game I would be paying a lot more for these DLC given the schedule they are on (and I doubt it would be going any faster) than if I bought them a la cart, but in any case, we don't know which parts will be part of the base patch and which parts will be DLC exclusive. We don't even know the parts.

It looks like the pricing (based on IC) means one or one and a half months of crowns from a sub=cost of one DLC, and one DLC is supposed to come out every three months. Basically, you can still get the DLC for half or less of what it would cost to stay subbed.

Does it bother anyone else that TG & DBH were announced as upcoming DLC's? I have nothing against DLC content. With the game going B2P I know they have to find ways to continue generating income but These 2 guilds just seem like they should be part of the main game (considering they have always been a part of TES previous titles) and added as an update for everyone rather than a separate DLC. The Thieves guild at least seamed like it was going to replace the outlaws refugees and replace the Legerman Skill Line and be added with the next part of the justice system but apparently ZOS had other plans

Welcome to free to play games. They have to nickle and dime everyone to make up for the freeloaders.

Yes, yes, we did not want it, but it is here and we have to flow with the current. Besides, with $25 DLC every three months, we have de facto subs for $8.33/month, i.e. ZOS is supplying us with more frequent updates for less money and as a bonus grants us some advantages over freeloaders. Obviously, P2W is serving us well.

Agreed, but this is also an MMO where updates cost. Either a sub or extra money. Choose your poison. Every MMO costs money for more content.

Also, this is not Skyrim. Building a base game for an MMO is much more complex and longwinded than the base game for a single player game.

Ooh, speaking of poison, I hope they add weapon poisons with the Dark Brotherhood.

You say this now, but let's revisit this next year and see where you stand.

If the DLC is only $5, and worth only $5, a lot of people will be very disappointed. Every DLC needs to be awesome. We are only getting 4 per year. They can't waste it on a lame DLC, even if it is the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood.
