Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood being DLC?

Does it bother anyone else that TG & DBH were announced as upcoming DLC's? I have nothing against DLC content. With the game going B2P I know they have to find ways to continue generating income but These 2 guilds just seem like they should be part of the main game (considering they have always been a part of TES previous titles) and added as an update for everyone rather than a separate DLC. The Thieves guild at least seamed like it was going to replace the outlaws refugees and replace the Legerman Skill Line and be added with the next part of the justice system but apparently ZOS had other plans

As far as I recall the thieves guild and outlaw refuge were going to work parallel if not together. It does not bother me that these are going to be DLC because of they are stand alone they will be cheap, if they are not them the content should be worth the price anyway.

It bugs me. These should have been in the game at launch they are the most important part of the elder scrolls games in my mind. It bugs me that they are charging for them. Hopefully they will be like $5 or something. Because really it just feels like it should have been in the game already.

If anything, these being DLC systems would suggest that they are going to be fairly involved.

Do not think even ZOS would try to get away with a named DLC changing the name of Outlaw dens to Thieves Guild and adding in a brief questline.

If Imperial City is operating on their template for DLCs, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood will have to be comparable in scale to not feel as though they are cheating customers.

Prophecies of the Elder Scrolls is the most important part of Elder Scrolls games.

People need to quit whining about things that "should have been in the game at launch." They already put a lot of stuff in the game, more than any other Elder Scrolls game. The game has launched, so get over it. Just look forward to the fact that they are putting it in the game.

I'm hoping it's going to be a good amount of content, instead of just mirroring mages and fighters guilds with 5 quests.

Whatever those two DLC include, it had better be something a lot bigger than $5 If that is all we are getting for the first half of 2016.

Edit: Both need to be 2000-3000 crowns... and worth it.

I'm a bit dissapointed they are sepperate dlc's.
I wonder how they are filling them up, there will be more then just a quest line... and it has to be outside of the normal content.
So I'm a bit sceptic but I'll see when more news is coming out...

If anything will generate revenue, it's the DB and TG. There's no way they would ever give these away now that the game went B2P.

I hope they make a main storyline for both of them (such as with the Fighters and Mages guild) that is rather story driven and then a ton of repeatable content, such as side jobs, that entail larceny and other felonious behavior for the thieves guild and carrying out hits for the brotherhood (making contact with a speaker then carrying out a contract with the occasional bonus objective). Perhaps completing these jobs can be what levels up their skill lines.

If done correctly, that would make a very fun DLC in my opinion with a fun quest line and additional jobs to enjoy even after it is done as that's my one wish for the current guilds would be additional content outside the main storyline (admittedly leveling the skill lines count too I suppose, but I refer to actuall quests).

I would not know precisely what cash value that should be, however, if that was all that was implemented in each one compared to IC being listed at $25.

I can't wait for the TG and DB. By far my favourite part of the Elder Scrolls games was the DB followed shortly after by the TG. Should help out my stealth based Khajiit NB too gonna be a lot of PvP complaints though good thing I stay out of that though.

If they are now charging for the imperial city (cheap but still) that is in the middle of the only PVP zone of the game you can be damn sure they are going to charge for every bit of new content that do not fall on the "quality of life" improvements tab

Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against them charging for the DLCs, it's only fair now that the game is buy to play and for players that pay the subscription nothing changes just like if they were in the old pay to play days and also i believe they are going to continue the policy of "everything you get inside the DLC zone can be traded or sold if it's not bind-on-pickup" so it's a win-win scenario.

This is pretty much exactly how I'd think they would do it. They could even have a group dungeon or trial unlocked by completing the main guild storyline - maybe something like a test from Nocturnal that unlocks the title of Nightingale for the Thieves Guild, and a test from the Night Mother for the Dark Brotherhood.

    Yeah, should have been.

But that ship has sailed and sunk.

Things are as they are, not as they should have been. I accept this, and have no problem with them being DLC - not that it matters much to me anyhow, since I believe in putting my money where my mouth is, and remain subscribed for ESO+ anyhow...

I'm going to wait and see what these DLC actually entail, and how much ZOS will charge for them, before deciding whether they are worth purchasing. Considering that these are being positioned as DLC on the scale of Imperial City/Orsinium, my hope is that they are more substantive than an extra skill and quest line.

"DLC" has become such a dirty word that when it's even brought up that you'll have to buy a DLC, whining is apparently inevitable.

What people tend to forget is that this MMO is probably the best value for money MMO out atm. You get so much in the base game for just buying the digital copy or hard copy. You can also subscribe if you wish, but I'm sure the vast majority play for free after the initial purchase and with that said how do you expect them to fund future development? From the mounts and pets etc. in the Crown Store? Yeah right, lol.

This payment model is actually the most flexible one I've encountered and I believe they're genuinely doing their best to stick to their initial intentions about it and not turn people into store addicts that feel they need to buy this and that all the time.

Sadly most do not consider the cost of developing these games. I heard several comments about "my money went to this and that and still don't have what I payed for" This statement might be part truth but the money given to ZOS is spent on all aspects of their entire department. Employees, developers, maintenance, advertising, all of it. A game that runs 24/7 needs constant revenue to maintain. Nothing in this world is free.

Developing and maintaining. There are constant bugs being looked at and ways to fix it without disrupting other systems. It's not as easy as just, oh, here's the bug, fixed, done.

This right here is exactly what I was hoping for too. I'm very used to DLC taking place in its own separate area (like IC and Orsinium) and not taking place across the entire map but who knows, maybe ZOS will surprise us. So many areas in the game seem unfinished like they are just waiting for new content to be added in the future. I don't want to get me hopes up too high w/o any real information but I do hope some of the content that is added takes place across Tamriel and not just in its own area

As I stated in my original post. I have no issue with DLC content. I know ZOS has to continue generating revenue to keep the servers going and continue improving the game. I think the 2500 crowns they are asking for IC very than reasonable. I will more than likely buy some, if not all of it at some point. If ZOS can keep up with releasing new content once a quarter I hope this game will be around for a long time to come.

On the contrary, it is the idea that the freeloaders would have the same skill lines and powers as players who would support the game with their dollars that bothers me!!!
At the very least, if these superior skill lines were not DLC-exclusive, they should be only made available after so insane amount of mind boggling grind or overcoming impossible to overcome challenges that even though they would be "available" on paper without buying DLC, in fact nobody not paying for DLC would have them.

Why not a DLC that gives 10ish hours of quests, a new skill line and some kind of repeatable content (theft/assassination missions) for about $10-15 (1000-1500 crowns) each ?

Obviously, if they keep adding new skill lines every DLC, they need to add quests with skill points and new skyshards to compensate.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Though, I guess they'd need to be a month or so apart, not quarterly with that sort of content lol...

Yes, I think it should have been included. But don't really care that it's not or believe even if there were 10 threads a day about it ZOS would change plans.

I was not real keen on going B2P and DLC's, however if you simply buy crown packs instead of sub the math works better in your favor, and I actually like this system better knowing I don't have to keep sub'ing for access. The gain feels more mine.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

As others have said i'm hoping the fact that they are announced as DLC means they will be filled with content. I'm hoping for new quest lines and most importantly new skill lines. I doubt new classes or new skill lines to existing classes will ever be a thing so I see this as a way for ZOS to add skill lines in that makes sense. But for it to be a DLC there should be content. Thats my hope.

I expect with the thieves guild to have a nocturnal quest arc. Maybe have a nightinggale skill line and armour sets. Oh oh oh introduce little minigame style things where you can loot everything from a massive mansion where the only NPCs are guards.

I'm hoping for cool places like Honeyglow to rob, exploration of Evergloom (maybe on the scale of Coldharbor???) etc.

Agree. I was hoping for some system updates and new world-wide mechanics, even if it's just something like lorebooks or Dark Anchors for the Mage and Fighter guild.
It also bothers me a bit that skill lines might be DLC-gated.
