Difficult Job? Does constantly seeing Text Chat being a hot topic in almost every ESO forum not enough?

I'm sure they are aware but it takes time to make these changes. Plus we have to remember that this is their game not ours and they will run it how they see fit. If players want to make a better game then they should get a degree in game development and start making games how they want to.

And how they see fit isn't right especially in the case of Text Chat. They obviously haven't seen the need because they made no mention at all. People will keep on complaining about it until they do, and they really should.

You don't have to be a video game developer to see flaws in games.

They pay more attention than a lot of game developers even though sometimes they don't communicate it.

Communication has always been a weak spot. Whether they are afraid, unwilling, or unable to tell us things is unknown. It might be all three.

I do think it is a serious possibility that they don't know that something is coming until it hits internal testing, and then they don't know when it is coming until it is nearly done. If QA is a bottleneck, they may have to wait just to get time with them. I think that this explains why they very rarely tell us about upcoming fixes, and when they do, time frames are all over the board. It gets worse if some fix gets tied up with a larger feature or change, like the rune stone harvest audio fix.

Features and changes, including closing exploits, are probably a mix of uncertainty about when it will be done and when they can test it. I also guess that things change on a frequent basis as internal play testing finds things and it goes back to the developer for tweaks and updates. There is no way to predict how many times this might happen. On these things, they are very secretive. My guess is that all of the stuff that revealed last week for Imperial City is only stuff that has already been at the end of this process. We know there is a lot more, and what they have not told us is stuff that they are still testing and may not even be on the PTS. This is also why PTS has not been updated and why they have not said anything about when it will be. They actually do not know.

What I wish they would do is render a definitive opinion on things they are not intending to do. If someone opens up a thread about a new Jester class that can render foes immobile with a timely joke, once that thread has had a chance to squeeze blood from the turnip, someone at ZOS should just step in and say that they are not going to do this. This leaves the door open to the idea and allows the discussion to progress without killing it, but lets the community know that the idea isn't something they are looking for. This can help guide future suggestions and direction of discussion. Of course, if they have no future direction and everything beyond tomorrow is just some fog of quantum probability, this probably won't work.

What we got right now is a black hole where we have no idea what happens to the information that goes in, coupled with the dog at the table paradigm where we are fed just enough scraps to keep us around but not enough to satisfy. I, for one, do not find either satisfying.

Still i stop believing in /lurk as feedback of any significance.

The /lurk is what I believe to be something that he adds to a topic of conversation that mirrors some development interest or conversation happening internally, past or present, or is something that they had not previously considered.

I just wish that, after the forum discussion had run the course and turned into petty name calling that they would circle back and drop at least a "/thanks for the input", if not something more substantial. More substantial would be nice.

Still, the /lurk is an improvement over the stoicism of the past. A start.
Have you noticed that there is no official suggestion forum section?

As near as I can tell, the whole forum is an official suggestion forum section.

Could not have said it better myself. People don't consider that there might be technical obstacles that ZOS have yet to overcome. Technical obstacles which ignorant people would never be able to even begin to understand.

If you don't like it, don't play. They're not ignoring you because they have an agenda.

other Console MMO's do. FFXI on the PS2 had Keyboard Chat and a few other online games on the PS2 did too. I'm sure there are more but the most common are MMORPG's and or online RPG's.

The developers may not "see issues" in our complaints but when we move on and find a game that does they will sure be feeling stupid. If you don't try to please your customers someone else will.

I understand that there are deaf players out there and maybe they should make text chat or voice to text just for them and charge an extra fee for it. That way they can enjoy the game as much as we do.

Yeah, but even if they have it is not that comfortable to switch between controler and keyboard. I think you will get your textchat in the game. It is only a matter of time. But I also think it will never be that confortable like it is at the PC.

They have already made billions of dollars off of this game, how stupid can they really feel? Fact is that anyone can leave anytime they want and if players like the game they will stay. Look at WoW, they have been around for years and are stillgoing strong and they don't bend to the players will, they do what they want and players have to deal with it. Look how many times they broke the class systems, between changing the talent system, glyphs, and stat squashing the game has been through massive changes over the years. Plus not to mention it has one of the hardest and worst devised profession system I have seen in any game. You also have to go through 89 levels to get to max level now, which can take a very long time.

We have it easy compared to other games, way to easy if you ask me.

I think most of us have occasionally been a bit frustrated whilst waiting for some official feedback or interest on the forums - I've even had a bit of a heat-of-the-moment grumble myself, but I understand and agree that it remains a game made by ZoS so they obviously don't have to take any player input.

The difference, I think, with ESO (and indeed MMOs in general) is that they are far more dependent on fostering a community spirit and developing that community if they want to survive and succeed than your standard AAA game - such that people have certain communication expectations. Frankly - and I know this is divisive - a simple '/lurk' goes some way in satisfying me that the devs are paying some attention to us.

A previous post made the point that the communication has improved since the leadership change at ZoS and I do agree - when the IC announcement dropped I was really impressed by the input from all of the ZoS staff (see http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-GB/discussion/195729/imperial-city-info-released)... I know that the Dev & Community teams are of course very busy, but this showed me that they definitely know how to actively involve themselves in the community discussion. Alongside this, the occasional friendly off-topic comments we see from ZoS engaging with players on a more personal level also helps develop the community-ZoS relationship... but like many have said - I would just like a little more of it all.

I absolutely love the game, and none of this will stop me playing; it would just be great to see ZoS trying to foster the community a little more.

That's not a sustainable business model. I suggest you study further on the matter if you do not realize that to a corporation, every continued dollar they make is the entire reason for the business. I understand many people have a very limited grasp on reality but this is a very simple concept. I understand PC player may bend over for extended periods of time for corporations but this is not the case with the console market. Look how fast ESO caved on the subscription and tell me I'm wrong. They went from "never considering removing it" to "Tamirel Unlimited come on down". All that had to happen was consumers to take a stand. Same with microsoft and all their Xbox one changes they had to make. Stop swallowing the tripe and take a stand or someone else will do it for you.

They pay more attention than a lot of game developers even though sometimes they don't communicate it.
Sometimes too much, they have a vision for the game and should stick to it.
Have you ever tried to get info from Rockstar or tried to change their minds for example?

No but i know for a fact dcuo has better communication with there community i mean they post back on a ton of ppl's suggestion threads and are even making things in the game ppl have requested like water powers for example ppl wanted it so they are making it but development here doesn't care

Ok what you are saying there is they have better forum presence and communication at dcuo.
I will give you that one, although it has gotten better since Rich Lambert took over.

On your other point if you let people who buy the game design the game, (chicken or the egg?), the game would never
be finished as not everyone wants the same thing.

It is up to you the player to check out a game before you buy and decide if it is what you want or not.

lol the player the check out a game? MMO's and TEXT chat go hand in hand, I was also surprised they didn't include this when it's an integral and SOCIAL part of MMO's.

It was known long before release that console would not have text chat.
Most console users don't miss it anyway, only PC converts do.
The group/guild voip chat is working just fine, would be nice to add text which they may do for those
that want it though, but it would be a chore for crown to have to deal with both.

We only have that from addons. Again, why would you buy this on console? We have been saying for months on these forums that we simply couldn't play this game without addons. If you had checked the forums you would have realized it would have been in your interest to buy this on PC.

From what I've seen, if they fail to respond in a thread regarding something like text chat for consoles, it is because they can't fix it or the "problem" being discussed is not seen as an issue by developers.

Ignoring the community is not a good way to handle problems tho cause they won't go away unless they are delt with

Thinking just because you play a game that you should have creative control over what gets added or taken out is a serious narcissistic way of looking at gaming. It seems that there are so few of us who remember gaming for being a game that you play and not think something should change because you dont like it. I am not saying that you shouldn't voice your opinion, but when i see a post like this, i can't help to think about the fat american guy who yells at his TV every NFL sunday and complains that they are doing it wrong. Yet, this tubbo couldn't run 5 min without choking on his last chili dog, and his athletic prowess ended in grade 8. Does that even make sense? I hope so.

With that said, I agree with some of this post.. the text chat in particular. But its that attitude of "I dont like it and you shouldn't either" and that makes me want to pwn your soul.
