Fish and Filleting.

Sorry if this is a nooby question, I only yesterday decided to take up Provisioning. I have a Recipe, I think it is Pan-Fried Trout. This question is about the fish that you catch. To make Pan-Fried Trout you need flour and Fish. Is it possible to use the fish you catch (the ones that aren't classified as bait obviously) or do I have to use the item labelled 'Fish'?

Thanks.

You can use any non-trophy fish to fillet, then the fish product you get is what's used in all food recipes.

Trophy fish are any of the green/blue ones you catch.

Just use those you have fillet :P
You can however also farm fish from killing and looting certain animals like dreughs.

So I've missed a step. I get a fish from fishing (or killing things like Dreughs :p) and then I fillet that fish to be able to use it in recipes? Thanks.

If you catch a fish fishing you will get something like a "Salmon" which you can use via your inventory to fillet and get the crafting material "Fish".

It's this base item called Fish which is used in all the cooking recipes. You can also find the raw material laying around in lootable containers, or from killing monsters as you've said.

Once you have the base fish item (looks like a pink slice of fish, or a tongue) get any other items you need and head on over to a cooking fire, you should then have to option to make it.

The bonus you get from filletting is the chance to get Perfect Roe - an ingredient for XP boosters, and worth thousands!

Might have to fillet a hundred fish to get one though ;)

The fish you can fillet has a name, like Spadetail, Silverside Perch, Salmon, Dhufish, Longfin etc. and they will be in the food and drinks section in your inventory.
-To get these you have to go fishing!

Once you fillet them you get the item called "fish". You can use this item for provisioning, it i s found in the "material" part of your inventory.
-To get these, you can steal them from peoples furniture, kill animals to get it or fillet some of the named fish that you have cought,
