Actually, because he's a Redguard, as long as I give him stamina jewelry for tanking (I'm planning on putting shield play enchants on all of the jewelry to help with stamina costs too) he ends up with almost exactly the same magicka and stamina: 13.5K each (edit: actually I totally forgot to add a couple of skill points back into a passive after respeccing on the PTS to see what the numbers would be, and I'm actually at 14.5K stamina). Do you think I should swap some of the health enchants for stamina ones? I had been planning on relying on keeping my stamina up with a combination of heavy attacks, Repentance, and the Adrenaline Rush racial passive.uniq_faznrb18_ESO wrote: »Interesting idea though I dont know if it could work with what I assume lower max stamina than max magicka? That stamina will be needed sorely for blocking and dodging.
I was thinking about maybe using the Empowering Sweep morph of Radial Sweep on my second bar for that - unless you hit 4 or more enemies with it, it's not as good at reducing incoming damage from enemies you're close to as Solar Prison is, but it's got a much much lower ultimate cost, so I'd be able to use it a lot more often... And the damage reduction is against all damage dealt to me rather than just damage dealt by enemies inside the Solar Prison. Yeah, I think you've convinced me to put that on one bar.uniq_faznrb18_ESO wrote: »I think radial sweep with the reduced incoming damage would be a better oh *** ultimate on at least one of your bars. Have you thought of Immovable for the added armor bonuses aside from the cc imunity? Its a great tanking ability, if not at least it gives you more freedom of movement.

OK, I won't bother to put anything else in stamina then. The 14.5K stamina that I quote above is without having any attribute points in it, and just with the jewelry being stamina jewelry - nothing else to increase stamina aside from passives.dancing.in.the.webeb17_ESO wrote: »really you don't need put attr points to stamina to tank vet dngns you need to have good block cost reduction (5 heavy, 1h&sh, may be absorb and CP for block cost). Spread attr between magika and health only.
Good to know that 26K health is sufficient. I was playing around a little bit with gear on the PTS and I found that if, instead of my usual method of taking Infused on the large pieces and divines on the small, I take reinforced on all the heavy pieces and keep divines on the 2 light pieces it drops my health by a few hundred only, while increasing my physical and spell resist by a few thousand. I still end up with almost 26K health (I think the actual number was 25.8K), but with significantly higher resistance, so if 26K health is plenty then I'll go that route rather than try to squeeze a bit more health. It seems like the higher resistance will probably work better in the long run.TheSunAlsoRises wrote: »26K HP is plenty for vet dungeons. i've healed tanks with less doing vet v12 dungeons. as for your skills, on bar 2, i'd drop ranged taunt and put in something else like maybe restoring focus (whatever morph) and maybe drop radiant oppression and put in cleansing ritual (whatever morph). i'd also put in a 2nd ult like radial sweep or dawnbreaker to help on trash mobs.
as for evasion, i read somewhere else that it doesn't stack with histbark but i'd run it anyway. in my NB i always have NB's evasion up when i'm tanking. EDIT: because you're not ALWAYS blocking.
also worth mentioning that if you have the equipment/skill swap addon like wykyyd's outfitter, you can have a set of bars for trash and a set of bars for bosses. for trash, i setup bars for damage and for bosses, i have bars for mitigation.
EDIT: i am also a big fan of defensive posture for the block cost reduction. i go with the absorb magic morph.

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. Changing my skill bars on the fly depending on what type of fight we're about to get into seems to make a ton of sense.TheSunAlsoRises wrote: »i have two tank bar setups in Wyykd's outfitter. one for general trash mob tanking and one for boss tanking. of course i may tweak these for special situations (ie. like putting on ranged taunt for the rare bosses that need it). you can (and should) change up your skill (or even gear) setup in the middle of an instance when not in combat for optimal (and can't forget most fun) play.
Yeah, it's only the Structured Entropy morph that gives a bonus to health while slotted (+5%health is nothing to sneeze at), but I also like it because of the Mages Guild passive that gives +2% to max magicka & magicka regen for each Mages Guild ability slotted, so just by slotting it I get extra health and magicka and magicka regen, even if I never use it (and if I do use it I get to put a DoT on an enemy with a small health restore for me, and increased spell damage). But yeah, if I was doing a Nightblade build it might not make it onto my bar because I might prefer to take some more nightblade abilities for the passives.TheSunAlsoRises wrote: »i'll try to look at my NB's tank setup for reference when i get home from work but in general i have as many AOE damage spells as i can on both bars (my secondary bar is my bow) for trash and my boss tank might have some extra mitigation skills on both bars like immovable. i actually don't use entropy because i didn't realize they changed it to add health % while slotted. but NB also have abilities that also add health % while slotted too (dark vigor passive).
That's a good idea. Unless there are adds, in boss fights the only thing Repentance is doing is providing a minor buff for my regen, so Defensive Posture probably makes much more sense for my "boss fight bars"TheSunAlsoRises wrote: »as for your templar, i'd probably just use defensive posture for boss fights and maybe drop repentance for bosses where there aren't corpses to harvest or where resource generation isn't an issue.

That's definitely helpful to know. Once I'm high enough level (I'm still only VR6) I'll be looking to get Footman's gear for sure. I figure at that point I'll want to run 5-piece Hist Bark, 5-piece Footman's, and a 2-piece monster set (I'm undecided on which one, but I've got plenty of time to decide, and plenty of farming to do to get the set in any case).likewow777 wrote: »Your setup is very similar to mine, especially with some of the suggestions given in the thread. Block cost reduction and increasing block mitigation is definitely a lot more important than straight up stamina. To achieve those things, I use 5 piece Footman's, as well as 5 piece Hist Bark, and I've got 30 CPs into increasing block mitigation. In total, my stamina is about 14k. Adding all that together, it really takes 5-6 DSA type enemies, all taunted on me and giving me hell for my stamina to drop to nothing. And that's if I don't heavy attack and enemies don't die fast enough to use Repentance. With the latter two, stamina is never an issue.
Hmm, interesting - I hadn't thought about using Volcanic Rune at all. On my DK tank I certainly like using Talons to hold mobs in place, so having some AOE CC for mobs would be nice... If I go with a "trash mob fight" setup in addition to my "boss fight" setup (which I'm now definitely thinking I will, with the aid of Wykkyd's Outfitter) it would make a lot of sense to put Volcanic Rune on that. I always keep BoL on my bar when I'm doing DPS so I can off-heal in case our healer is dead/out of magicka/trapped in a bubble/whatever, so it might be a good idea to find a way to put it on one of my boss fight bars too. I'll have to think about what could be swapped out for it. Oh, and I agree about Meteor. I just recently hit Mages Guild 10 on this character, so I've just recently gained access to it. I love it on my main, though - especially the morph that gives you ultimate for every enemy hit. It'll make it onto one of my "trash mob fight" bars for sure.likewow777 wrote: »Bar 1:

It's all pretty self-explanatory, but to explain some of the differences:
Templars don't have Talons, so I use Volcanic Rune. In some ways it's better because it can be range casted, and it stuns, but I really wish the radius was bigger. Still, the usefulness of stunning a bunch of enemies far away that are pestering a teammate, then grabbing them with Inner Rage can't be overstated. Next, I keep BoL because it let's me take bosses away from the healer, and I can stay alive on my own. I tend to stay on Bar 1 more, so I usually get the regen boosts of Repentance. Lastly, you will have to pry Meteor from my cold dead fingers for me to give it up

I split all of my CP into healing/tank bonuses so I can do either just by changing out gear and spells. My Templar's a V14. With Skill saving Addon "Swap" it works out great. I have preset skills saved for Healing, DPS and Tank and can switch from one role to another within a minute.
Cool - I've got most of my CPs on this character in healing bonuses - both for healing initiated and healing received. That's because of my usual healer role for this character in dungeons, but I think it'll be useful when tanking as well (the healing received especially). I'm also now starting to put some CPs in more tanking-specific things, but I don't think I'm going to respec my CPs in order to do that - just put new ones in that as I get more CPs. To be honest, I haven't looked very closely at what bonuses the 2-piece monster sets give you, but I was thinking of going with Engine Guardian anyway, just because I think it looks the coolestlikewow777 wrote: »That's definitely helpful to know. Personally, I'd go with the Engine Guardian just because it adds to your sustain. I also tend to get more active with my magicka use, healing with BoL to help a teammate, using Inner Fire to taunt everything before a fight, plus I like bashing to add to damage. Admittedly, I take it too far sometimes and run my resources low

Hmm, so if I get that set and use my dwemer sphere vanity pet I'll get really confused and never know when the summoned sphere is out... lol I guess I'll have to use my dwemer spider vanity pet with it instead!likewow777 wrote: »The effect it gives is a 10% chance to restore health, stamina, or magicka (randomly selected) when you use an ability. Awesome if you need resources. However, my favorite part of it is the dwemer sphere that gets summoned. lol well I started thinking about it because of the LWH trials planning meeting... I mean, it was mentioned that we needed more tanks, after allHow about that.. was searching the forums for this exact topic. I was starting to do this before 1.6 dropped, but then kind of gave up because of CP. Now that I've got a bit more CP under my belt I was thinking of trying again.
Still in the planning stages @MissBizz - I'm actually planning to get to VR7 before really giving it a proper go, because I'll be crafting a new set of gear then anyway.@UrQuan have you tested this out yet? Or are you still in the planning stages?

Hey @MissBizz, since my last post in this thread I've been doing some tanking on my Templar with my setup being pretty much entirely based on the discussions in this thread. So I'm back on this thought... as I hit VR14 so with the upcoming changes I decided to work on my "future" characters - a khajiit NB that I still don't know what she is going to be.. and an Imperial Templar Tank that I'm a bit scared, as I don't know how tanking on a Templar will be. Almost considered just recreating my Imperial DK tank lol
Does anyone have some solid advice or builds? I have seen some great info in this thread, but the more I see the more comfortable I'll get
So far I found these...
