Yeah kind of defeats the purpose of votes if the vote can only go up. What if many people disagree but don't feel like commenting and starting a flame war?

Yes, just anonymously hit the "Disagree" button and let your mighty voice boom across the forums like the vengeful wind that it is!

If you feel so strongly about a post that you disagree with it and would take a moment to push a button, then take a moment to say why. Expressing a well thought and constructive opinion isn't going to start a flame war. Same goes for "Agree", etc.

But then it wouldn't be a forum. It would be an adult discussion. That's no fun.

Right. A "Disagree" isn't a dislike. It doesn't mean that someone doesn't "LIKE" what you posted. It's not a thumbs down because someone doesn't "APPROVE" of what you posted.

It simply means someone disagreed with what you posted. Nothing negative there.

Dislike button, please! Thank you!

For what it's worth, we are exploring the possibility of bringing the Disagree button back.
Just don't make it in a way that a disagree will take off one point.
^^ This. I think a Disagree button would be great, as long as we can see the total number of Agree's and Disagree's side-by-side...seems more informative. I don't want Disagree's to subtract from the Agree count or vice versa.

So with me being new to the game and these forums, one thing that boggles my mind is how there is an agree, insightful and awesome post "rating", yet there is no "Disagree" option. To which I ask, why not?

I understand the whole "Maintaining a positive and healthy environment." However by there being no option to silently disagree with something, you have to vocally disagree, which can often be very negative. If I disagree with something that seems to have a bit of agrees and such I feel obligated to post and speak against it, where as I would have just thumbs down, clicked disagree or whatever and just moved on.

There are discussions and opinions that I disagree with and would rather not partake in an open discussion with them, as they can get ugly or very lengthy; yet I still "voice" my opinion, if that makes sense.

So I ask, can we have a simple "disagree" option for posts? And if not, why?

    Disagree.

I would like something more realistic , less presumptuous and less cheesy ego stroking like:

    "250 Disagree badge."

"Most people think you are an a**hat and your ideas stink. You however don't give any flying guar fart about that. keep on rolling "

Yeah, something like that would be great. I was simply using mine as an example how it doesn't have to be a negative thing.

While this is true, there are enough people who will still take a disagree as something personal or negative.

While it is unfortunate that you are probably right, it is however, up to the person to how they react to it.

I think you are misunderstanding something here, so let me explain in detail.

People in the thread have said "Just agree with the people who post about disagreeing with." His post goes on to show it isn't that simple, and it doesn't work that way. He mention of feeling that he believes with the poster being short sighted and not seeing the big picture of it not being that simple, or that black and white.

    I Agree with this.

Now the very same post that mentions unicorns, bondage gear and guns, I disagree with this. (The gun part anyway.)

Simply clicking agree on his post doesn't work, because I disagree with the second part. However at the same time, clicking disagree doesn't work because I agree with the first part. While you may see this as only showing that agree and disagree being both pointless, you are missing hidden option number 3.

    Abstain.

Or the choice of simply choosing not to click like or dislike. That is how a post like that would be handled if we had both like or dislike. That or quote the part you agree with, which then could be agreed or disagreed by others from there.

Either way, it still supports the dislike button. Like I said, it's a clever post.

You basically rewrote what I said. It seems we all agree that the post was designed to show two opinions in which 1 would be agreed with and 1 would be disagreed with. His post only shows that there are situations where both buttons are useless. It does not support the disagree button at all. Just like it doesn't support the agree button either. The best argument I saw for having a disagree button was along the lines of "People do not want to be harassed for having a differing opinion." It's a fair point. I agree with it. Of course I could've been like some people in this thread and said something along the lines of, "the pansies in this politically correct world need to stop worrying about their feelings being hurt", but I'm not that type of guy.

My original post was targeted at you saying the agree button doesn't allow both sides to have their voice heard. That's not true. Both sides can equally utilize the button. I guess me pointing that out is "short-sighted". Threads could literally be only two posts of differing opinions with a bunch of agrees. Hell, they could be two posts with a bunch of disagrees. I imagine it doesn't go like that because, as you said, everything is not so black and white. This is a discussion thread, the buttons take away from that. I honestly would prefer the only button that exist is the insightful. With insighful, it doesn't matter if you disagree or agree with a post. A good post is a good post. Of course the buttons probably keep the forums a little cleaner.

There used to be, but unfortunately we live in a pansy politically correct world where you might hurt someone's feelings, and it was removed.

THIS. Like the losing team in soccer for my 5 year old's league still got trophies, even though they were last. Dude, they lost? In the really world, I wish I got a trophy for getting fired..... wtf. We should be free to disagree. Trolling happens no matter what. Maybe don't cause the disagree to lose a point?
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Forums can be negative enough. Most human beings can't be trusted to not misuse a negative option such as a disagree button when they can hide behind avatars on the internet. Besides you can see clear enough when people agree and disagree with the current system. If anything maybe people should use the "Poll" option more if they really want to see more accurately who agrees and disagrees.

I do like the "LOL" button though, should have that again.

I don't see the dislike button taking away from a discussion thread, but adding to it. It allows thsoe who do not wish to post, not post; yet still have their voice heard. As someone earlier said, those who feel strongly enough about soemthing, be it agree or disagree, are still going to post anyway.

I think there's some saying about people see and interpret things differently from person to person that I'd use here, but I don't remember exactly how it goes.

We both have made our points, but seem to see the same things differently. So let's just agree to disagree, shall we?
