Yes, just anonymously hit the "Disagree" button and let your mighty voice boom across the forums like the vengeful wind that it is!
If you feel so strongly about a post that you disagree with it and would take a moment to push a button, then take a moment to say why. Expressing a well thought and constructive opinion isn't going to start a flame war. Same goes for "Agree", etc.
A disagreement does not have to be negative. I believe most people are just emotionally invested and will let this leak into their response to something by accident or on purpose. I have found many ways to disagree with someone that does not require any negativity.
^^ This. I think a Disagree button would be great, as long as we can see the total number of Agree's and Disagree's side-by-side...seems more informative. I don't want Disagree's to subtract from the Agree count or vice versa.Spectral_Lord wrote: »Just don't make it in a way that a disagree will take off one point.ZOS_GinaBruno wrote: »For what it's worth, we are exploring the possibility of bringing the Disagree button back.
So with me being new to the game and these forums, one thing that boggles my mind is how there is an agree, insightful and awesome post "rating", yet there is no "Disagree" option. To which I ask, why not?
I understand the whole "Maintaining a positive and healthy environment." However by there being no option to silently disagree with something, you have to vocally disagree, which can often be very negative. If I disagree with something that seems to have a bit of agrees and such I feel obligated to post and speak against it, where as I would have just thumbs down, clicked disagree or whatever and just moved on.
There are discussions and opinions that I disagree with and would rather not partake in an open discussion with them, as they can get ugly or very lengthy; yet I still "voice" my opinion, if that makes sense.
So I ask, can we have a simple "disagree" option for posts? And if not, why?

"250 Disagree badge"
"You're not afraid to ask the tough questions or back the unpopular opinions. Thanks for keeping things interesting!"
Earning disagrees doesn't have to be a negative thing.
I would like something more realistic , less presumptuous and less cheesy ego stroking like:
"250 Disagree badge."
"Most people think you are an a**hat and your ideas stink. You however don't give any flying guar fart about that. keep on rolling "

Right. A "Disagree" isn't a dislike. It doesn't mean that someone doesn't "LIKE" what you posted. It's not a thumbs down because someone doesn't "APPROVE" of what you posted.
It simply means someone disagreed with what you posted. Nothing negative there.
I think you are misunderstanding something here, so let me explain in detail.
People in the thread have said "Just agree with the people who post about disagreeing with." His post goes on to show it isn't that simple, and it doesn't work that way. He mention of feeling that he believes with the poster being short sighted and not seeing the big picture of it not being that simple, or that black and white.
I Agree with this.
Now the very same post that mentions unicorns, bondage gear and guns, I disagree with this. (The gun part anyway.)
Simply clicking agree on his post doesn't work, because I disagree with the second part. However at the same time, clicking disagree doesn't work because I agree with the first part. While you may see this as only showing that agree and disagree being both pointless, you are missing hidden option number 3.
Abstain.
Or the choice of simply choosing not to click like or dislike. That is how a post like that would be handled if we had both like or dislike. That or quote the part you agree with, which then could be agreed or disagreed by others from there.
Either way, it still supports the dislike button. Like I said, it's a clever post.

For what it's worth, Reddit has upvote and downvote buttons and the "atmosphere" on the game's official subreddit is like night and day compared to here. I'm not saying which is better or which is a more accurate representation of reality, but night and day. Come join us:

And I'm confused by what the "Awesome" button means. What is this, 1985 Anaheim? No one has used the term "Awesome" in decades.

You basically rewrote what I said. It seems we all agree that the post was designed to show two opinions in which 1 would be agreed with and 1 would be disagreed with. His post only shows that there are situations where both buttons are useless. It does not support the disagree button at all. Just like it doesn't support the agree button either. The best argument I saw for having a disagree button was along the lines of "People do not want to be harassed for having a differing opinion." It's a fair point. I agree with it. Of course I could've been like some people in this thread and said something along the lines of, "the pansies in this politically correct world need to stop worrying about their feelings being hurt", but I'm not that type of guy.
My original post was targeted at you saying the agree button doesn't allow both sides to have their voice heard. That's not true. Both sides can equally utilize the button. I guess me pointing that out is "short-sighted". Threads could literally be only two posts of differing opinions with a bunch of agrees. Hell, they could be two posts with a bunch of disagrees. I imagine it doesn't go like that because, as you said, everything is not so black and white. This is a discussion thread, the buttons take away from that. I honestly would prefer the only button that exist is the insightful. With insighful, it doesn't matter if you disagree or agree with a post. A good post is a good post. Of course the buttons probably keep the forums a little cleaner.
