Why are champion points account wide anyways?

Seems strange meaningless things like titles arent shared when the most unbalancing thing in the game is.

Any reasoning behind this?

Honestly, this decision truly boggles my mind. There is absolutely no reason for this.

Not even your mount training is account wide, why would they make such a game changing (and unbalancing) thing account wide so that alts can truly destroy those without CP? It really makes no sense by any means. Just one of those decisions that makes you wonder how this discussion even began in the dev office, and then even more boggling that it was developed and went live.

This same format is practiced in DCUO (they have Skillpoinra which is like champion pts), so its not uncommon. Anyways, if I earned it I should be able to use it however I need to whether its on a new character or not. What someone works hard for should not be changed or nerfed for the convienience of another.

PC players have been here for over a year and its not fair for the late comers (console players) to come in and want things catered to their preference.

Its like picking a fight with a UFC fighter and complaining because he did the work and put the time into getting a black belt.

It's the one thing in this game that encourages leveling up more than one character (because we all know that the rest of the game does everything it can to deter you from doing so, including forcing you through all 3 alliances just to hit max level).

Obviously its an awful system. Each character you make should stand on there own. Of course tweaking alts with gear is always a thing, but tweaking with CC you have on your main? just bad design.

Exactly, we already have to deal with leveling crafts again, getting lore books again, getting shards again, getting achievements again, getting gear again (if none you have in the bank is for the new role) and training your fat mount that needs to eat every 24hours...again.

Im not sure why which platform you play on is relevent?

It just seems strange that one thing in your words 'have earned' has been chosen to be account wide. I 'earned' vr14 on one guy shouldnt all new characters start at vr14 by this logic?

If it hadnt been account wide off the start noone would of cared after some initial pissing and moaning.

Worst analogy ever btw.

Because this is how it was made with planar attunement in Rift from where they got a lot of things in game mechanics - group and raid UI, vet system, vet ranks, etc. The bad part is - Rift has a lot of content and each tier of vet ranks had own zones, and a lot of them.

Was surprised to discover my low-level alts had champion points, not realizing the things were awarded account-wide.

While it's nice to get them for my other seven characters, concur that it seems odd that they would.

I think the idea is so it doent punish ppl who have multiple characters by granting each character less. ie if player A played 10 hours on 1 character and gets 6 cp's he will not have an advantage over player B who also played 10 hours but on 2 separate characters.

It makes perfect sense to have account wide champ points, it would be stupid not to. That said, I do think it is odd that non vet chars can use them.
The only thing I would have done differently is made champ points usable only once you reach a lvl you can actually earn them (vr1). Wouldn't matter much pve wise but would help keep non vet PvP fair.

Out of all the things wrong with the Champion system, making it account bound is the one thing they did correctly. In fact many more things should be account bound. To question this..well lets just say I question your reasoning skills.

I am loving it!
Means whatever character you play, once you get to veteran ranks, all yopur time spent will count towards c-point advancement... in other games with non-account-wide "alternate advancement", people who alt a lot are hugely penalized by getting their gains split over all their alts, and thus never can compete with those who play the same amount of time, but only on one character. Here altaholics like me don't suffer that disadvantage! Yay!

Titles on the other hand... or achievements in general... those really are better for each individual character, so you can keep track of what this or that alt of yours already did, and still has to achieve...

Research... should also be individually counted.

Riding skill... ditto.

Dyes... are already account wide, and should be, check.

Alliance rank... definitely individually per character.

(and yes, I am an altaholic with 8 characters, all in veteran ranks... why do you ask?)

So I buy horse stamina and speed and capacity from crown so why not it go to my alt then?

No way will I ever grind champ points on a new alt, I would never play other characters, took me months to tet 570 champ points on playing 5 alts, that would be the nail in the coffin for me
