PS4 names showing PSN username?

I'm confused, been playing on PS4 for most of the day, and i have yet to see a real name on a player. Most of them have no spaces and a bunch of numbers, or follow the stoner naming of xXBlahblah420Xx. If that is the majority of the PS4 community..... Then i think i'd rather have an xbox.

That is how the names are displayed on the PS4. I believe the Xbox shows the GamerTag so it's pretty much the same in that regard.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It is, and it's an often brought up reason when people talk about how ZoS doesn't listen to their customers. Of the dozens and dozens of people talking about this, absolutely NONE of them have said they like it.

Ah ok lol thanks, was beginning to think i was playing with a bunch of druggies, wait, then whats the point of having a same character name block? And what's stopping someone from griefing me when i kill them or get a boss before they do, if they can see my account name? Very stalker-like

    Yup, this is ridiculous.

What's the point of not being able to use character names that are taken? lol

You do know this is likely a policy held by Sony and Microsoft about how games identify users of their respective services, right? ZoS may have zero control over the matter.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

FFXIV has character names, only game i've played that shows PSN names was Destiny.

I agree, I'd really like an option to toggle between in game character names, and player account usernames.
It really upsets me that no one can see what I named my character, like whats the point if no one else can see it?

I agree with most of the above, I spend a lot of time thinking of character names.. I might as well just give them serial numbers and save time.

I want to have my individual character name above my head, maybe be able to toggle a smaller print of my PSN so people can identify me, and have both shown within guilds so that each of my characters has its own identity but equally people know who I am if I'm on an alt

Would be nice to see created names, but most PS4 games show your PSN ID so what is the difference?

What makes me laugh is that if you create an item for a friend or to sell, the item has your character's name on it, not you PSN ID.

Just pick one name or the other and run with it for goodness sake! Hahaha

Peoples characters names are also on the pvp leaderboard, so you will never know who thwy are in game cause their character name isnt used to identify players.
Just change it to character names not PSN Usernames.

And the in game messaging is crap! You have to log out and back in just to get an update of messages! So people just spam to your psn.
If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

I don't get how they leave out key features in the name of "immersion" yet keep these tags visible. "xXyourmombro420Xx" kills it for me over a mini map or scrolling damage any day. :/

I don't see why people what this instead of gamer tags. Hell I get things from people and I look through my friends list and guild to see if I know them. Now imagain I see some name the decided to name their character. I would have no idea who anyone is. When you play online on consoles, you are your gamer tag, always have been. That's how we know eachother. It's easier with gamer tags. And let's say someone is annoying and you want to report him, how do you know his gamer tag to do that? It isn't like Xbox and ps are keeping running tallies of eso names tied to your gamer tag. Maybe if you to pve, that's fine. But in PvP I want gamertags

No, DC Universe works just fine with everyone having their character names represented instead of their PSN username.
If you want to know who a player is, view profile them. That easy.

Use of the gamer tag for an account is fine, but in game it should be the character name. In the friends and guild UI it should be both. Easy enough.

Ok so 1 game does it, so every game should now. I mean, when you would pick your name in skyrim or oblivion, how often would you notice that name? I don't feel like coming up with some unique name for every game I play. I already did that, it's my gamertag. And how many variations of the same name would you see running around? I think it's a you problem if you're running around and see xxKillingEveryOnexx instead of xxConan123xx and that kicks you out of being immersed in the game

I guess having my display name be my character's would be alright so long as i could still see gamertags on my friend's list. Kind of confuses things though I mean these people have been their gamertag to me for years now not sure how i would respond to that changing.

It might be interesting when playing another character in another faction.
"Hey TequilaFire, didn't you just kill me as an EP?"
Can't hide under another name. lmao

Haha exactly. Only benefit I see. His isn't liked in his faction and wants to go run away to another one, and doesn't want anyone to know who he is. Or he is like how can I pretend to be a girl online and his gamertag messes that up for him. I mean who looks at the names while in towns anyways? I never pay attention to what someone's name is. I go to town to pick up quests, break down my equipment then store it in the bank...then I'm off again. I don't walk around thinking I just want to see how creative everyone was with making their character names.....lame

lmao, you ever play an MMO before ESO, son? All MMOs do this. Very very few use usernames, in fact ESO is the only MMO I know that uses account user names to identify players rather than the characters original name.

Yeah because 99.9% of mmos are made for PC first and their is no platform wide usernames. Like I said its a you problem when xxWho'sYourDaddyxx breaks your immersion into a game, but Att1laTh3Hun456 doesn't. and again, like I said, I don't see a need to come up some unquie name for every single game I play, I already did that. But I like how you ignored everything else that was said and focused on 1 thing. So how about this, zos decided to go with gamertags over game specific names, and I'm glad they agreed with my viewpoint. And this is a very old issue, maybe you should point out that there is no text chat on the console version too, while you're at it

Same with FF your chsracter's name is presented. I don't really care too much since PSN has goo privacy filters but if you put effort into a creative name you probably want it represented.

ZoS honestly has no idea how best to support the console communities. They argue for immersion and remove valuable information like how much health and damage you and enemies have ( Did that kill it? No? Better hit it again with something). Then they take away text chat and give us music playing and parents/spouses talking instead. Yeah, that's immersive. The PSN ID/Gamertag thing is completely expected at this point. Add-ons saved the PC version from most of these mistakes. What will save the console versions? Don't worry, I'm sure ZoS has it on their 'Soon' list, right behind the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Wrothgar which were placed on it over a year ago. Honestly, what were they working on for the last year?
