You know what is insane about the whole situation. On the leaderboard they show your character name, but ingame they should your psn name. This means that you don't know who is actually around you playing on the leaderboard.

    Its stoobid.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

No, DC Universe works just fine with everyone having their character names represented instead of their PSN username.
If you want to know who a player is, view profile them. That easy.

"Ok so 1 game does it, so every game should now. I mean, when you would pick your name in skyrim or oblivion, how often would you notice that name? I don't feel like coming up with some unique name for every game I play. I already did that, it's my gamertag. And how many variations of the same name would you see running around? I think it's a you problem if you're running around and see xxKillingEveryOnexx instead of xxConan123xx and that kicks you out of being immersed in the game
    "

lmao, you ever play an MMO before ESO, son? All MMOs do this. Very very few use usernames, in fact ESO is the only MMO I know that uses account user names to identify players rather than the characters original name.

"Yeah because 99.9% of mmos are made for PC first and their is no platform wide usernames. Like I said its a you problem when xxWho'sYourDaddyxx breaks your immersion into a game, but Att1laTh3Hun456 doesn't. and again, like I said, I don't see a need to come up some unquie name for every single game I play, I already did that. But I like how you ignored everything else that was said and focused on 1 thing. So how about this, zos decided to go with gamertags over game specific names, and I'm glad they agreed with my viewpoint. And this is a very old issue, maybe you should point out that there is no text chat on the console version too, while you're at it[/quote]"

Its not about what YOU want, its what the majority wants. The majority WOULD like a toggle switch between Usernames and player character names, the majority DOES want a chat box. Whether or not this issue is old doesnt matter, its something that players wish to see changed. DC U, Planetside 2 both show character names, ones an MMORPG ones an MMOFPS, both are on PC, and console.
Ill also reply to ur other comments which werent worth replying to because they are literally pants on head dumb.
You don't want to create a unique name? Name yourself after your PSN username, easy. Variations are not a problem, they are in every MMO.
Im not trying to get this toggled because of immersion, I want a toggle feature because I want my character name to ve displayed, NOT my PSN username, otherwise there is NO point in naming your character anything.

That is how the names are displayed on the PS4. I believe the Xbox shows the GamerTag so it's pretty much the same in that regard.

You say that like its a requirement by SOE, which it isnt. DCU Planetside 2, and the final fantasy MMO all represent the player created character name.
The only reason Usernames are used to identify players in ESO is because ZOS is either too lazy to add a toggle, or they actually thought itd be a good idea.

Has anyone found any actual explanation for this? It makes no sense!

ZoS honestly has no idea how best to support the console communities. They argue for immersion and remove valuable information like how much health and damage you and enemies have ( Did that kill it? No? Better hit it again with something). Then they take away text chat and give us music playing and parents/spouses talking instead. Yeah, that's immersive. The PSN ID/Gamertag thing is completely expected at this point. Add-ons saved the PC version from most of these mistakes. What will save the console versions? Don't worry, I'm sure ZoS has it on their 'Soon' list, right behind the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Wrothgar which were placed on it over a year ago. Honestly, what were they working on for the last year?

Lacking info any other game would show me is starting to be the breaking point with me. It's also annoying when PC players say not having those things has no effect on your ability play your role. Yet, at the same time most seem to use combat HUD Addons.

People claim there's a post or something from Zenimax stating it was out of their control on the xbox due to the way microsoft rely on account names for purchases or something. Doesn't explain the way other games get around it if that is true. If other games can do it, why can't Zenimax?

That explanation from ZoS makes NO sense, they can get around that just like every other MMO, they simply are not smart enough to know how to program that obviously.
