Dye Unlock for Crown Store...hopefully...not.

I am a big enough person to admit when I am wrong.

And, upon reading responses to this thread, and really thinking about it more "long-term"...

I must say...I was wrong.

I hope they never put the dyes currently in the game into the Crown Store.

Kind of reminds me of the old armor dye pack they sold on the Cartel Market on SWTOR, I digged it.
I honestly think this is a good idea and I back it up.
Also, It'd be cool if they gave us more color options or our mounts... but then again, It'd be weird seeing my white imperial steed turn into a purple Barney lookin' horse.

1000 Crowns to "Unlock all Dyes".

Their pricing model would be more like: Each individual Dye is 500 to 1000 crowns.

I am currently leveling up a Character in the AD to around level 25 ONLY to unlock the "Iconoclast" achievement, and unlock a certain dye color.

I have no problem "earning" the dyes.
But, why do we "earn" dyes when we don't have to "earn" the ability to make certain types of armor styles?

Nobody is asking for making the dyes available to everyone for free. However, there is no reason for placing them behind effortwalls so the better people can not just buy them outright like everything else. People who support the game sure deserve some fancy colours!!!

Most of the best dyes are unlocked by doing difficult in-game content. So it is kind of insulting to make them available for cash. The existing cash shop items are things that take time or luck to get, not skill. Maybe offer the "common" dyes for cash, but I would be opposed to offering the rare dyes that are rewards for gameplay. Giving "Ophidian Jade" to someone who has not completed Sanctum Ophidia would be like giving the "Boethiah's Scythe" title to someone who has not cleared VDSA, or giving the PvP dyes or titles to someone who never PvPs.

Because they are rewards for achievements. Rewards are earned not purchased. These rewards are something people who have earned them can display for others to see.

allow buying of some of the more common dyes, keep the rare ones for achievements only.

that should satisfy both sides pretty well.

granted most people won't buy the easier to get dyes.

While I am tempted to say yes due to the pure cosmetic quality of the dyes, I am against giving rare dyes to people who don't earn them. So perhaps only 20% of dyes should be available?

You and I disagree over the meaning of "obvious" and "false". The question was about unlocking dyes. Dyes and titles are unlocked as rewards for earning in-game achievements. Hence, dyes are earned. I was not aware that buying mounts in the crown store had been given its own achievement.

Everything currently connected to achievements related to dyes can be earned in-game by questing, looting, etc. I am not a fan of selling shortcuts to things that unlock one or two dyes (like buying motif packs), but even that isn't the same as selling access to all of the dyes because some folks don't want to have to unlock the achievements first. If you think that having character and mount costumes are rewards, well, I guess we disagree on what that word means too.

Mounts are not rewards for achievements, not thus far anyway, so I don't see how the two relate. Mounts can be purchased with gold or crowns. Dyes can only be earned through completing achievements. They aren't the same thing.

I'm all for this as well. ESO is a HUGE game and something to make it a little bit easier such as this would be AWESOME! I also like the fact of motifs being in the crown store, so this would seem like a logical next step. I have started many chars never finishing one, but when I was part of a specific guild before it disbanded I purchased 100 primal in the guild store for a good price. That primal crown motif helped my Khajiit char to actually craft Primal equipment at level 13.To be able to have access to purchase at least most of the dyes would be so awesome. If that won't be possible then perhaps dyes that are not tied to achievements like an inventory item when equipped in inventory disappears and adds that dye account wide. Something like this might need an entirely new update, however I am unsure if that would be the case.

I'm for this for purely selfish reasons. The particular shade of purple I want is only achieved in PVP, and I will never rank that high. I'd gladly pay for it. (and I've bought nothing to date)

Doesn't really matter much to me if they made unlocking dyes crown store options or not. A color of armor I'm not going to keep long anyways just isn't really all that important. If its offered its offered , if it isn't no great loss imo.

Getting the rewards via cash shop for achievements from Alliance War ranks up to the very top, for all major Alliance questing zone accomplishments in the main stories, for all fishing and collectible accomplishments, for all crafting accomplishments, for exploration and closing dark anchors (those both take a LOT of effort), for running trials, for group dungeon accomplishments, etc, etc, etc, etc, is not "a little easier". No, you don't understand achievement systems in MMO's. When someone has the Dye Voidstone Violet, that is them saying "I've done every single veteran dungeon on its hardest mode, I have the right to wear this with pride" not "I bought the dye with my moms credit card but I'm going to say I did it"

The reason why ZoS made dyes be unlocked through achievements is so that people actually play the game, not have everything handed to them. If you take the time out of your day to log into ESO and go achievement hunting, you are supporting the game.

Don't expect ZoS to hand you everything just because you don't want to put the time and effort into getting something that other people have.

It's purely cosmetic, so it would do little harm, and I won't tell you what to do with your money, but... Instant gratification is overrated. If you savor the experience, it leaves a lasting memory. If you have to work for the reward, it's so much more satisfying when you finally earn it. Even when it's something as simple as a dye. Vacuuming all rewards out of the game and into the crown store would make ESO an empty shell.

I would have no complaint whatsoever if colors werent unlocked by PVP or PVE action only. If all colors were unlocked by PVP AND all colors unlocked by PVE it would be perfect.

PvP people have gotten so little thus far since launch, a few unique colors isn't much to ask

The dyes are rewards for in game achievements. If in game achievements can be bought for money, they lose all meaning. Just say no to buying achievements in the crown store. I've been playing pretty much since launch and just recently completed my first set of monster trophies to earn the dye (other than dwemer which is 2 pieces and easy). If people can just go buy those trophy dyes, then the achievement that takes long enough you count it in months or years can be bought for less than the cost of a cheeseburger has only one viable path to achievement and that's with real world money.

I wish I had more colors to choose from but honestly, I'd be disappointed if you could just buy the color you wanted. The achievements already essentially mean nothing except for the ones with titles and dyes. They actually make the achievements worth something. I know how you feel about wanting certain colors but just paying for them would be a bad idea I believe.

Haha! I gave you an agree for that because I do really just want that one color lol. But I can't be the only primarily PVE player that would like those colors and realize I will never achieve them, or vice versa.
