That speed buff in towns and slamming my face into walls!

I really, REALLY hate that AoE speed buff that people cast in towns so that they can zip about. OK, they want to zip around, but I don't. I like to bumble along at my own speed, then along comes someone casting the buff, whooosh, I end up with face meeting wall because I've suddenly gone from 'bumbling' to high speed! I like my own speed as my hands are partially disabled and I can't always react quickly enough to stop the 'wall in face' scenario!

What I am asking for here, is not to take away the ability for people to cast this in towns, but for something *I* can use, either a toggleable ward I can switch on for bumbling through towns, or a dispel, or something. Anything that would stop this being applied to my character. What is the great flaming hurry, anyway?

Just please let me have my slow speed just as they have their zipping about. Let us have the choice for it to be applied or not. As we ALL want, not just those casting the thing.

I hear you, and it bugs me that the speed boost spell that everyone loves is an AoE combat readiness spell that also draws a weapon. I would like it changed, to be honest with you. As a game play mechanism, it is flawed. The spell has a group purpose and if people want to have a spell that is just the fast movement spell, there should be a personal spell that does just that, without the AoE.

In a game like this.. complaining about wanting to go slower is not really an issue.

    Or am i missing something.

Faster is always better... if you dont like it. Just tippy toe..

I definitely get where you're coming from, but there's so much else they could spend the man hours on than adding a toggle for people who like to walk/run slower. It's kind of a '1st Nirn problem'

Absolutely not attacking you personally, but I'm getting a little tired of "but there are more important things for the devs to work on" being used as a stock answer and sometimes an attempt to shut down discussion, every time someone asks for little convenience features/tweaks.

You have NO idea how tired I am of that. lol

I personally love being able to zip around. At the same time I can see the benefit of being able to customize your group, personal and global buffs. In a game that is designed to provide a massive level of customization we should be able to toggle on or off buffs from others that we are not in party or from players in party for that matter.

Why does everyone buy a game these days and try to change it to how they like to play instead of just adapting to how it was meant to be played?

If the developers tried to keep everyone happy in this game, it would probably take forever to write the code.

By the same token, why do people buy a game these days and try to change the way others like to play? This speed buff is usually cast purely in order to buff people passing by rather than the caster who is often standing around thinking he's helping other players when he's actually annoying a fair few of them. It irritates me no end. What's really needed are visible buff icons so you can e.g. right-click on the icon and cancel the buff.

Count me in among the people who would like to see a speed buff toggle.

Also count me in among the people who are astounded others are attacking someone who offered a simple suggestion to help improve her and others' gameplay. Saying you don't think it will happen is one thing, but actively slamming on someone for their suggestion is another. Better yet, YOU COULD JUST SAY NOTHING. No one forced anyone to read this OP.

Meh. I can't say this actually bothers me, but I have always found it curious why this buff was not limited to just the individual who cast it and their party members only. It seems it would make more sense that way, since it is essentially a good skill primarily for PvP. That said, it can come in hand at odd times in PvE as well.

If I am in town, I have tend to just stop moving and checked mail or bank or something else if I don't want to deal with the buff; it wears off pretty fast and is then out of mind.

Blimey. I make a polite REQUEST topic with a sprinkling of humour and some of you people seriously need to chill out and kick back.

My request was for something that I could CHOOSE to use. Nowhere did I ask that the buff be removed or changed for anyone else. Play as you want by all means. But, I would also like to play the way I want without being unnecessarily buffed when I don't want it. I'm asking for something to enhance MY gameplay. Your buff enhances yours, after all. It's spoiling mine.

You're entitled to disagree, but insulting me and jumping down my throat with your opinions is not required or wanted.

So to me.. that makes no sense. As you can still go slow if you want....

So if you want to spend 10 minutes walking between vendors... just walk slower.

A person with physical issues proposes a simple suggestion, one that would affect the way other people play not one iota, and she is attacked and insulted by you and others.

She is just dealing with it. She would like to deal with it a little more. What's it to you? It would never affect you in the slightest. What's it to you?

I go into controls, and put walk/run (which usually is defaulted to not have a toggle/control) to f12. I don't use it a lot, but I do use it.

I have not actually tried to see what 'speedbuff' does to walk. I'll have to check.

I see you problem and I sympathize, but unfortunately it's a low priority fix. That being said they did change magelight so anything is possible, especially if it's an easy fix that won't take long. If they could somehow reuse some of that magelight fixing code as well it becomes more likely.

Perhaps a simple solution would be to allow you to cancel active buffs (not debuffs mind you) that show up in your character sheet. I'm sure some enterprising individual could then make a addon to auto cancel certain buffs.

I am SOOO glad someone brought this up !!! Hesitated to create a topic myself on the subject and reading some of the aggressive answers, I was right !!

It is sooo ennoying and becomes increasingly annoying. Impossible to land at any wayshrine, being in town or anywhere else, without being hit by one of these speed buffs people seem to cast all the time and all over the place. Even thinking they're "helping" !!!

I have no physical disability at all but I'm very ennoyed by this nonetheless, for several reasons. the main reason being : THIS IS MY CHARACTER. I'm the one who controls MY CHARACTER. Not someone else. How would you feel if you were driving your car and all of a sudden your passenger takes over the speed or the steering wheel ? That's exactly how this speed buff feels like.

For me it is ennoying up to the point that I might drop the game because of it. It is more ennoying than lag, imbalances or waiting for new content. It's close to unbearable.

There's a certain degree of "immersion" in this game. No matter whether you actually "Roleplay" or not. And the fact that your character is getting, outside of combat, completely out of your control, is highly unpleasant. Unless you steal, towns are meant to be "safe places". Safe to go at your own speed. Have your character do what YOU want, not what other people want.

Furthermore, speed buff makes me seasick. And disturbs the game (wanna hand over your daily writ ? well, you just stole something, unwillingly. Because someone gave you a speed buff. Quietly fishing ? forget this fish, you've been interrupted by a speed buff, which makes you draw your weapons and interrupts fishing). And so on... Basically, speed buff feels to me like my toon's just been whipped hard. HIGHLY UNPLEASANT.

Please ZOS, make it toggleable. Please.

If it only happened every now and then it'd be kinda OK, but nowadays it is ALL THE TIME and EVERYWHERE. Even in the most remote locations.

I think a little "self-policing" and courtesy might be an answer, here.

I use rapid maneuvers a lot, and I watched myself cause someone to go flying into a stone wall on their senche mount, the other day. It was a little funny, but it also made me feel a little bad. The rider in question didn't say anything.

Now I try to be a little more aware of my surroundings and get away from other players before I pop maneuvers.

Also for those who use dual weapons; there is an ability called quick cloak; gives the wielder a 40% speed buff for 5 seconds.

It only works on foot, and it's got a shorter duration, but a stamina build can spam it all day.

And it does NOT effect anyone else. For use in town, it would be a much more respectful choice.

    To OP,
we all have "quality of life" requests we like to make; I'm glad I read the thread because now I know why my character glows yellow sometimes and runs fast.
Some people have been very rude in the thread, some have been polite. The point many tried to make is this: make the request as you like, but you should have an understanding that if the request is only important to 100 players, the devs will attempt to handle a request that is important to 10,000 players first. I love this game, but wish there were a lot of things different about it. I'm realistic that almost anything I want in the game is never going to happen.

What you describe as a simple toggle sounds very simple, but you and I don't know the programming demands.
Most importantly, there is this: unintended consequences. What if the coding to create this toggle, for example, has an unforeseen result, such as all tree bark looking purple. So it isn't just the time to develop it, but also the time to deal with anything it might interact with weirdly in the coding.
I wish it were as simple as popping in that toggle for you; here's hoping you get it. In the meantime, the walk suggestion seemed pretty good to me.
