Definitely farm the Alits. That's where I had to get it from.

Kenarthi's Roost - Alits are your best bet there's tons of them and only around level 4!

I have so much Alit red meat I could stock a butcher shop. Why? You ask? Because I was almost at level 10 before I found my first flank steak recipe. I preferred when alits gave rawhide more.
