Help me like this game :/

Th3Knack
Th3Knack
Hi all,

So I bought this game a couple of weeks ago, currently I am level 9. I am not a typical fan of the genre if i am honest but i do see a lot of potential to like this game...talking to a couple of people they say to me it is much better if you play with other people..also i like the sound of pvp...i believe this can be done at level 10?
I think my problem is, I feel iam just running around doing boring quests and haven't found much excitement as of yet..i also admit i find the conversations with the characters in the quests coupled with the vast amount of reading kinda tedious.
I think my main problem is I simply do not fully know what i am doing or have discovered the excitement. I hope you dont see all my comments as negative, i would just like to have a little direction, maybe hook up with people to play with. I did join some guild yet i have had no interaction with anyone or know how to.
I like to stream my games on Twitch..maybe drop in on me to help me :)
Twitch username : Th3Knack

I would really appreciate some suggestions, maybe an active guild where i can be involved alot more ?

Thanks.

This game is not for you but there are many other mmos out there that are. If you can not get into the quest or story then there's really nothing else this game has to offer you at the moment. The quest and stories and the role play character building is what ESO has always been about.

Are you on console? There are Guild Recruitment Forums sorted by platform at the bottom of the main forum page here.

TES has always been about questing and exploring, if you dont' like that kind of thing, it's going to be a problem for you in PVE. There is tons of stuff hidden around the zones, get off the road and go looking :)

PVP, yes. I love the AVA style here and playing an actual war. You can go at level 10 and get your tutorial (plus a couple skill points) but I would recommend staying in the non vet campaigns for now. You do get Battle leveling out there which will raise your stats. At 15, you get weapon swap which allows you a whole new skill bar and another weapon option.

All MMOs take a while to get rolling. The whole point of an MMO is for you to have the ability to build and customize your character any way you want. You don't have many options at low levels in any MMO.

In other games, level 10 seems to be where it takes off, but for ESO I feel like it's level 15. That's when you open up your second weapon bar and get essentially double the character customization.

Additionally, as you unlock more and more skills, the options allow you to play how you want, rather than how you have to. Being level 9, you're probably using every skill you've unlocked or even been able to unlock. You haven't been given much choice as to how you want to play.

I like the roleplay character building...the questing would be fine if i was sometimes doing this with others. With no interaction with other players so far it has kind of left me wondering why it is called online...Maybe i need to join a good active guild?

I am going to go ahead and be the evil guy here. But as soon as you said you hated questing I stopped reading. You will never like this game nor any other MMORPG for that matter. There are MMO's that have no quests but those revolve around constantly killing enemies for xp, this is called grinding and is much more tedious and boring for most people.

May I suggest a game such as Dark Souls Or Dragon Age for you? You may find these games suit you more with a very in depth storyline while keeping to the RPG. Even try very hard to play through Skyrim completely to get a taste of Elder Scrolls before jumping straight into this MMO. That may warm you up to ESO a bit. But be warned this is very different from the normal Elder scrolls games as it is an MMO. But if you are 100% set on an MMO I suggest trying FFXIV. The story is wonderful but again it will all come down to questing or grinding till max level.

You stopped reading, so you didn't see the part where he said they would be more enjoyable if he were able to do them with others easier. Then you started listing single player games OP should try...

    Bad comment is bad.

This is a hard one to help with.

For me personally I was gripped by the story and dived right into it, I did however find the other faction stories a little less gripping (I play EP). If you haven't already you could try playing another faction and see if their opening stories help you get gripped with the story.

You might also just want to grind some NPC/quests to level 10 and try the PVP, it's really enjoyable and has been my main focus for over a year.

Also once you're level 10 try finding some groups for the PVE dungeons, these are designed for teams of four and have different mechanics and challenges which break from the normal questing lines.

Sorry but you know as well as I do that he will not have a partner from 1-vr14. From the devastation of the game for him so far I know very well that he will not like this nor any other MMO. Do I want to see any player leave the game I play? No, but I'm not going to lie and say he will eventually like it. I've been in his spot for many MMO's but it always comes down to not enjoying it. Ever. Plus he already stated he is not a fan of Elder Scrolls. Contrary to haters and popular belief ESO is more like the standard series than many like to admit.

Are you on the NA or EU server? Listing the server your on will help others find you to group with that read the forums. You'll also want to find a non "Trade" guild as those are the ones that you'll find people to group and quest in. Most Trade guilds are all about sales. You can still ask if people want to quest/group in them, it's just easier to find more people in the non trade guilds.

My wife and I have played this game from Launch so almost 18 months now and really enjoy the game. Since we've done all the quests already we feel like you do at times about them. Give the game a chance though as PVP is a lot of fun with the siege weapons you can use.

Did i say i hated questing ? For 9 levels I have done questing, and yes i have found some to be boring or the format slightly changed for a future quest..I have though like i say, enjoyed some too. I need to hang in there and maybe hook up with some other people as I am sure i will find it more appealing.

Really like the responses folks and thanks again :)

It sounds like you enjoy the RP aspects of gaming. If thats the case i wouldnt bother with ESO and go with games like the Witcher. In my opinion MMOs have a heavy element of competition which drives people to grind through boring stuff. I for one have not read or listened to one single quest in this game not even the main story.

Hey, I think you kind of answer your own question there at the end. Find an active guild, or at the very least, a few people who you can play with constantly to do some of the group stuff (like the dungeons and PVP). That is where the deciding factor of whether you will like the game or not will come from. If you don't like either the dungeon or PVP content, you will more than likely not like this game and need to move on. The key here is finding an active group to play with though in order to do these contents and see the benefits of them.

I would say if you're not enjoying the game to move on. My gaming time is too sparse and precious that I don't have time to jump in to a game that bores or lack of features frustrates me. I will say though that 1-50 was by far the most enjoyable part of the game. Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, main story, dungeons. The Trials are fun, but super short, and VR ...

But yeah, if you don't like it I'd jump to another game.

From what i hear though this isnt a game you can decide upon after 5 minutes so to speak with different aspects of the game unlocking at later stages, this is why i want some advice and ideas of other things i need to do in the game as this genre is new to me.

    Thanks for your reply

No one can help you like the game, it's all your personal preference, not all games are for everyone, if you gave the game a good open minded try and you still don't like it, I don't know what can be done, maybe make some friends get into team speak try some options you never have done, I have tried games but could not get into them, every one went wow crazy way back in the day I tried it thought it was the worst game I ever played, maybe you can find that ESO sweet spot.

Thanks, I was kind of expected to be shot at a few times. That is fine, iam new to this genre and I guess some thought i was bashing the game with negativity when really, I want to stick with it as I believe I will grow to like it more.

Another question please : What are the variations of guilds to choose from ?

A couple of things that can certainly help:

    1. Find an active guild that is new-player friendly. There are plenty out there. They will give you help, advice and company.
    2. Keep an eye on zone chat and if someone needs help with a World Boss or dolmen, offer to go help them. That way you'll meet players.
    3. Once you are around level 13ish, keep an eye out for people looking to do the group dungeons (Fungal Grotto, Spindleclutch and Banished Cells). Those are 4-person instances and can be very fun group play.
    4. If you are at all interested in crafting, keep an eye out for people wanting to trade crafted items for leveling. I met some really nice players that way, when I was trying to level enchanting. Deconstructing items made by other players is the best source for IP, so having a crafting buddy and trading items with them is a great way to level.

When you get to level 15 you will be able to equip a secondary weapon and swap between two bars, so that will make your gameplay more dynamic as well.

    I hope that helps!

Me, I'm still experimenting with class and race, but, I have found that the story really picks up after level 10. I think it also depends on your alliance. I found Daggerfall kind of flat, Ebonheart was okay, but, then again, I really like Dwemer ruins and the whole visiting Morrowind (never been there and never played that game) was pretty cool and revisiting Skyrim was great), but Aldmeri is still my favorite - the world just seemed fuller IMHO.

Some of the quests were pretty lame, but, when I took the time to talk to all kinds of people, it wasn't so bad.

I stopped reading Quest dialog I think before leaving Auridon and haven't since. I find the questing in this game to be mostly glorified fetch quests with a joke boss at the end of some. None of the non-endgame PvE content has any challenge. I grinded my way to V14 and now I have fun, running Vet dungeons/pledges and DSA with some friends or going into Cyrodiil for a little.

For your low level, if you're interested in PvP, get into that non-vet campaign, it's hands down the best campaign. You can have large scale fights with little lag and everything feels appropriately balanced. Once you out level it, the Vet campaigns are brutal and your experience will be at the whims of the zergs and the server performance. There are great times to be had in those campaigns, but it's harder with the lag and ridiculous TTK.

But, in short, yeah group play is how I have fun in this game. Perfecting builds and runs through the delves with my friends is very satisfying.
