ESO has better combat and the ability to play with your friends. Skyrim has better everything else. I highly recommend playing Skyrim.

    I recommend......

Morrowind followed by Oblivion followed by Skyrim....

All three games are brilliant BUT due to age if you play Skyrim first the graphics on Morrowind may put you off. :)

I just feel like ESO isn't as massive and potentially as good looking as skyrim. I am brand new to this game and enjoying it, just have a feeling the single player experience is better with skyrim.

Play daggerfall too! yes the graphics sucked but it was amusing way back in the day long before morrowind. But all the elder scrolls single player games have been great.

(In my opinion) ESO looks way better! But yes, Skyrim is more massive, and since this game is an MMORPG (Massive multiplayer online role playing game) Skyrim will offer a better single player experience.. since.. well.. it's single player. Although, this is coming from someone who just started Skyrim.

[EDIT] So far, Skyrim has been awesome - but I still absolutely love ESO :) It's a different type of experience

It depends on what you like in this game.

I played Skyrim, loved it though it's not my favorite in the series. Decided I would try and recreate one of my ESO characters in it a while back. The graphics in the opening are amazing, better than ESO, but quality drops once I got into actual game play. Character creation gives me very little to work with compared to ESO. I also noticed the stair climbing animation was a little janky. Weapon animations however look better than ESO, though the combat itself maybe less fun. Of course I had to get used to a weight system for my inventory again.

Bottom line, you're going to find the world very familar, but many differences exist between the mechanics of both games. That can be jarring, and has tripped up a few people going from Skyrim to ESO. I haven't heard from the experience of anyone going the other way.

@driosketch I went the other way.. ESO first then Skyrim. So far I love it, but I think it heavily depends on if you actually enjoy RPG game, or if you play MMO's for the group content. Skyrim is confusing as heck still to me (really, I upgrade my bow using that stone grinder?) but it's refreshing and awesome.. for all different reasons than why ESO is awesome. I found stair climbing to be very janky too... I miss the actual people interaction, but the story and getting "immersed" is much better in Skyrim.

In short, yes, if you even a little like single player games. There is much to be said for being the ONLY savior in your world. I still find it more than a little off-putting to be told that I'm going someplace that no one has been in millennia while I'm bumping into people like I'm in a tourist trap.

Morrowind is my favorite but the graphics and combat are really old. On the other hand, it doesn't hold your hand over every little thing and if you can win the fight you can have the best gear in the game right off. But, the fight isn't easy that early.

    Angevin Sarkany - Bosmer Dragonknight

Sanna yos'Phalen - Altmer Sorcerer (provisioning)
    Cosima di Mattina -Altmer Sorcerer
    Naria Andrano - Dunmer Templar
Luca della Serata - Redguard Templar

The single player TES games are, to me, superior to ESO (though I enjoy ESO). If graphics are a big deal I'd jump in to Oblivion and Skyrim. If they're less so a big deal and you look for more story driven, in-depth RPG elements then Morrowind is a good TES to jump in to (if the Skywind mod ever releases then it will be completely superior to Skyrim in every avenue). Daggerfall is where a lot of players who are fairly new to the series draw the line, though it's incredibly good and allows for a lot of character depth and growth.

Skyrim is one of my favourite games. When Xbox is bringing back backwards compatibility I see myself going back to that game again, even though I have finished most of the big stories. It is such a great game.

Skyrim Online would have been the perfect Elder Scrolls game.

HAAAAAAHAA better combat system you say? have you tried the Deadly Mutulilation paired with Dual Sheath Redux???

1.with high stealth you can pull out a dagger and chuck it at a bandits head sort of like that dragon age origins scene at the tavern

    2. you can wear the heaviest armor and shield and block an attack and watch the enemy fly back or even fall to the ground due to recoil, and even have their own weapons break on them and they throw it at you causing a bit of damage

    3. you can ride a horse and basically kick an NPC or enemy down using your own feet, and then continue to stomp them while their on the ground using the horse

    4. you can attempt to rob a female wood elf, fail and have her pull out dual katanas and whirlwind your character until your body is chopped into pieces, which after that she slides her katanas away and walks away doing the most sexiest walk ever

    5. City guards could fire catapults which could completely blow you away into tiny chunks plus demolish nearby wooden houses & trees

    6. you can watch a random mage with 100 destruction skill cast up an ice beam at a dragon and completely freeze it solid, and watch your companion pull out a 2 handed mace and smash it into billions of pieces

ESO combat system is no way better than Skyrim at all
    I'm outta here

My only regret giving away my PS3 is the loss of Skyrim.

Hoping that with XBox's intention to provide backward compatibility PS4 will follow and I get to play Skyrim again.

Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Thank you for describing mods. Now please read what you quoted and notice it said "Skyrim", as in: the combat system created by Bethesda. Which is fluid enough, but very very simple and I can easily see how ESO could be more enjoyable. Skyrim's archery feels infinitely better, though.

I don't know why some of you are saying Skyrim is more massive. Do you refer to the landmass or gameplay features in general? Because the landmass is clearly much smaller than ESO.

Eso combat system is better also in my opinion, skyrim combat system is monotone and static, and can t forget the stupid bug animation that enemy makes u catapult everywhere when u die.
Also skyrim bosses are so easy and brainless, there isn't any particular or fun mechanic, in this way Eso is superior.

You can read everyone else's post but I will simply say this. Skyrim is the only Xbox 360 game that I played from 2010, it's release, til eso release. I played other games yea but not really more than 6mo at most, but I played skyrim for about 5 years and I know I haven't gotten 100% yet. There's literally just so much to do, out of all the characters i had I only completed the story mode once, and for one faction so I haven't done it on the other faction.

In short, if you like eso but don't like a bunch of other people on the screen, then you'll like skyrim, and every other TES game if you're able to play/find them.

Great! Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll definitely play skyrim in due time. Since I just paid $60 for ESO I'll play that for now. Hopefully an Oblivion/Skyrim dual purchase will be created or they bring Skyrim to be able to be downloaded on my PS4. If anyone wants to play ESO my PSN is MoocH. I'm very new level 9 woodelf.
