They can't even fix basic bugs in this game. If you haven't noticed, we are still in beta. There is no way they can add any kind of Arena system with out it being a cluster f filled with bugs/exploits/cheaters.

I love the pvp but like most I left the game due to the repetitiveness of taking the same keeps over and over the zergs and the major lag only to return for 1.6 to experience the same lag and unkilliable players(due to extreme lag) in zergs and server crashes.. An Arena would fix all of that it would give many pvp players an outlet from the norm. An Arena would alleviate the major traffic lag and zerg balls that currently exist.
Arena pvp would not kill Cyrodiil if thats the only way players can earn AP and most importantly I've been a 1v1 tournament player for a long time and most of the pvp community does not participate in the few 1v1 guilds that exist so the idea that by implementing an Area you would lose most of the Cyrodiil population is simply not true.
Adding an Area would only add to pvp and make this game one of the best pvp experiences around due to 1v1, 2v2, etc and a lot less lag in Cyrodiil it's a win win for everybody.

Also, any arenas needs to have appropriate rewards attached: XP, AP, gold and gear. Players should not be punished for playing the game they want to play!

AP has to do with alliance war. Where would that fit into arenas? And how is that punishing people if they didn't include it? You don't get AP for PvE content... is that punishing also?

AP is a reward you get for killing other players, arenas shouldn't be any different. I can guarantee you a lot of the push for Arenas come from people like me who want to earn PvP gear, but hate large scale PvP because of the zergs and all the boring horse riding. If you need to role-play the whole "Alliance" thing, then just imagine the 1v1 Arena fights to be the equivalent to the scene in the movie Troy where Achilles squares off against the rival army's best fighter:

Well again a problem with earning AP with arena is every one be doing arena for emperorship and all any one really gotta do is ask a friend of a diffrent alliance to fight for a few hours to rack up a ton of AP getting emperorship with out really doing anything to earn it.

AP Is not just a reward you get for killing other players. It's Alliance Points that you get for contributing to your alliance..
I DanniBoi SIGNED.
I will love to be part of the arena and place bets, to see who won or not? heck I want this to be true, I remember when in oblivion I always place bets and participate, this could bring so much richness to the game and make it more alive, and have more options to participate with other guild members and against other guild.
This is a must have.
Ideas:
Having 1vs1 up to 10vs10
Placing bets as a guild against others guilds by representing our guild members.
Let's say both guilds are ready to place the bets against one another by favoring his guild member, and watch the battle. After battle is over, who ever wins, can earn reputation has a arena contender, that reputation points can get to the player (the participant) an amount of points depending the amount of bet that has being present it, and that points that the participant won is more points for the alliance.Who ever loose, well it wont get nothing.
Participate in arena as a solo player
This option can be given as another side story within the Arena. (no matter if you are vet rank or no vet rank)
Side quest Arena - Veteran Rank
In here you can be a contender and earn achievements by taking down the arena champions (npc's). Make this challenging and with a lot of champions to take down. And earn the title/achievement as a "Arena Champion", only players that are level Veteran Rank can participate, from veteran rank 1 going up.
Besides the story as a vet rank player, we can also choose what we want to fight and how many enemies, depending the enemies, the more coins and points we earn.
Side quest Arena - Non Veteran Rank
Now, players that are not veteran ranks can participate too in this arena side quest but will not fight any champions until the player is a veteran rank. So any player that is not veteran yet, can still fight npcs and monsters of tamriel or other npcs, including pvp at their same level.
Guild Call Outs
This can be made as an in game option to call out any guild members in game, when doing so, there will be a message that will be appearing to the guild. So a guild battle can be made by gamers in game.
Social competitions (by month)
This option can be given to every body in every level and every guild in every level as well. Now how can this work? Easy place a forum competition monthly that can be called....
"The Arena Social competition for VR players" (or something like that)
This could be choose as groups:
Group 1: Name vs Name
Group 2: Name vs Name
(Depending if any particular competition of that month is divided by groups on how many players you guys can choose)
Here any VR player can write the word "signed" in the forum event page, and everyone has 24 hrs to "sign" then a random moderator will close the threat writing the players name that they choose. (the name of the account they are using). Then every player in tamriel can go to that arena to place bets against each player that is going to fight.
And also, it could be nice to have a armor for that pvp arena competition, that you have can only win it by the most kills, and it can be implemented as the same like the emperor armor. (but with another armor that goes with the theme of the arena)
"The Arena Social competition for Guild members"
Here will be the same but the difference will be, each guild will have to prepare in advance and this competition will be announce the end of each month, so the other month (with date) can be the arena guild fight. Also each guild that wins many battles against other guild members can win as a guild a arena armors set.
Obvious that any guild can participate, and how it will be, easy as well.. but in addition to this so it can be well organized.
Make a threat that allows those guild members to send a invitation to his guild master so that guild master can accept it by sending the "accept invitation" to ESO and by choosing how many guild members has accept it the invitation, from there it will start the arena competition for guild members. Or a message to everyone (in case they do not visit)
Note: For those who do not visit the forum much, it will be nice to see a prompt message in the game that tells us that a guild arena fight will take place in a amount of time/hours, so everyone can go and make their bets if they want to.
P.s. This could give a huge boost to the side part for the social environment with every single player across the world!.

On the other hand, the PvP forums would become more of a whining, self-congratulatory, circle-jerk than it already is and who doesn't want to see that?

Why are you so scared of other people having an option that suits their tastes?

I want a cheese helmet that I can pop on my head in Cyrodiil.. why can't I have that option? Same reason why you can't have your precious arenas. (actually.. the cheese helmet would probably fit the lore/setting of the game more than arenas would.. so guess it's a bad example)
