The key to enjoying MMOs for me is to take them slowly, my characters are pretty much the same levels as the OPs and I've been playing since the original PC launch. If you put in a massive number of hours each day and rush around so as to make that sort of progress inside a couple of weeks then I think you're missing the whole point of MMOs. Far too many players are obsessed with the so-called "endgame" and as a result they get burnt out before they even get there, and once there they complain because they've run out of things to do. MMOs are about enjoying the journey, not racing to the destination.

Since when PvE has been a challenge? There are really few games that make it a challenge. Even single players.
What game that has been released is hard? Dark Souls? All you have to do is learn what the enemy do and that's it.
    In ESO is the same.

For me, the focus of the game is not the challenge of killing the enemy, but discovering/exploring quests/areas/NPCs. I don't go around killing wolves because I want XP, I do it because it might help that village, or because I'm gonna save some people somewhere.

Lore/explorations it's ESO focus in my opinion. If you want a challenge, go PvP. Fighting a machine can never be a challenge, because machines are predictable. Players aren't, therefore there is the challenge.

I have few things to work on I GM a PVE guild we are working on sanctum. I personally am getting the last few nirnhoned pieces researched so I know 9 traits on everything. I am also hoping to learn every recipe including psyjic ambrosia. On my stamina character I need caltrops for my build so I am doing pvp. I want a v14 masters desto staff for my magika build so I am doing vdsa runs also the bow for my stam build would be great. Then I want to replace my skoria gear with ones with better traits. I am also levelling a new alt a bosmer dk tank. In short I have plenty to keep me busy.

    " I'm Level 33... "

" I feel I've experienced a lot of what this game has to offer... "

    HAHA... XD

    Great Joke.

In ESO the endgame is where it's at. Working towards getting the perfect gear for your character, Doing instanced Group Dungeons and Veteran Dungeons. Undaunted Pledges, Craglorn content with a group. PvP in a big guild or smaller scale duels in guilds. P.S If you are getting owned in PvP then join the Non-Veteran campaign, only level 1 - 50 players so you won;t get killed by max level players.

I hope you find some inspiration on something, perhaps become an outlaw or join an RP guild. Get some friends and just explore Cyrodil and act as if it was open PvP in a normal world. Go treasure hunting or do some crafting writs.

Just to add a bit of insight to the pve difficulty comments. Although it is fairly easy to solo most of everything now, back at launch killing two thunderbugs was an ordeal for all but a few op builds once you hit like vet 3 or 4. I don't want that back. Tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this.

I've been playing for about 2 weeks now, and up until now I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have hit 33 on my main toon, and have a few alts ranging from level 8-20. I have done dungeons, solo instances, part of the main story, mages and fighters guild quests, I've started crafting (which get's extremely boring and repetitive).. I tried pvp but f**k me, I get obliterated within seconds. This is something I quite like though, it gives me something to work towards, but I can't play this game for the pvp alone.

I feel I've experienced a lot of what this game has to offer, and I'm finding it extremely difficult to remain immersed. I listen to all quests (apart from the ones I've completed on another character), I read a fair amount of books, mainly the lore books, but I'm running out of things to do that grips me.

Pve combat is WAY to easy, the only time I've died in this game (during pve) is when the game freezes and force closes, which is seriously starting to *** me off.. But that's a rant for another time. I can solo Dolmens just 1 level below me ffs, and Dolems with a group... it gets blitzed within just a few moments, absolutely 0 challenge in this game, why don't they scale depending on the size of your group? Is this something that will be done in the future?
World bosses are a joke.. The CC in this game is extremely overpowered, I use my ice staff and freeze them in place every 5 seconds and they just stand there, getting battered, again 0 challenge

And lastly, I heard this game is severely lacking in end game content, so that's not something I'm looking forward to any time soon. Literally just kill mobs and grind for some kind of points? That sounds about as exciting as a bucket of spit.

As the title says, how do you guys squeeze every last bit of enjoyment out of this game? Please no trolls, I just want a general, mature discussion with some witty banter.

    Cheers.
You must just be a beast, carry some noobs thru some group dungeons..

People complained about the game being difficult and they made it easier and easier. You have to play above your level, skip ahead. The Vet areas used to be a real challenge, now they are almost as big a joke as the 1-50 areas.

While leveling 1-50 if you're looking for a challenge: Solo world bosses, solo public dungeon, solo dark anchors. They are all very doable and even easy for people if they know what they are doing. Still it provides some forethought at least. Maybe even a death or two to consider what you are doing.

I usually die. But that's because I'm bad and probably suck. Even if the PvE is easy I usually focus on the story, I expect the real challenge to come end game raids/dungeons and PvP, that's my idea

I did join the Non-veteran campaign, but I still get destroyed. One problem I'm having though is not being able to join any other characters on a different faction in the non-vet campaign. Is there any way to leave the campaign? What's worse is after the 5 days are up, it automatically resets! So I have to wait another 5 days, and on and on it goes. How in the hell do I work around this?

Why do people do this? Moan and groan because the game is a challenge. Challenge is the one of the few ways that make games fun. Losing that makes it feel empty and pointless.

Honestly though, I do all of what you're saying, but as I said in my original post, CC is way OP in this game. Unless they're casters, they stand no chance. World bosses - you can literally just run in a circle for 5 seconds, they cast their spell, I interrupt, nuke them, rinse and repeat. The mechanics are very predictable.

I know it must seem my whole idea of this game is negative. But there's a lot more I like about it, than dislike :p

I guess this is one of your first MMOs? Anyone you gets bored of crafting after 2 weeks is used to being given a weapon and being told who to kill. And crafting wasn't implicated for your enjoyment, it wasn't added so if you get bored of slaughtering people you can relax, it's meant to be used to help you in battle, either from food/potion boosts or simply giving you the best armour and weapons with a nice enchantment.

From what you have said it seems like you have missed a lot of the in-game content. Farm reagents for potions, or ingredient for provisioning. Go fishing (make sure you research a bit first so you know what bait to use and where, otherwise it is boring and annoying). Go steal some things and sell them to a fence. Go house to house, breaking in and steal anything of value, pickpocket. Take a step back from killing, and then play the game, you will see how much 'fun' you missed. Go hunt for treasure caches, chest or lockboxes. Do group dungeons with friends. Fast Travel to a Way Shrine, pick a direction and walk, you will likely come to a new quest.

If you don't find any of that fun then I'm afraid you're playing the wrong game.

Believe it or not, this isn't my first MMO :p I played WoW for years. I actually didn't understand the crafting system fully which is why I got bored. There didn't seem to be any point in crafting, until.. I came across the crafting stations throughout the world, I had no clue they were there to make sets. Now I see the point and researching every trait I can for each of my toon's professions.

As for the questing. I had to keep the destinations add on and set it so everything was hidden in the world, accept long quest chains. I HATE the singular quests. They give awful exp and next to no gold, and 9/10 they have no reason/story behind them. I love the longer quests though, the stories at least.

I've never played an MMO before.

I started playing this game ... hmmm April of last year? Not sure. Over a year.

Anyway over time, I have found that subsequent character sometimes had it easier and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. I'm getting better at the mechanics of playing the game. By that I mean the reflex to get the heck out of the red; the summoning my Winged Twilight back in the midst of a fight to keep on with the taunts & healing; the don't stand in one spot, even if there is only one boss - keep circling around it.

Its not just knowing intellectually that those are good/ tactically sound things to do. It's habit. Doing them.

Add synergizing with a group (even one you know) and it adds a whole new level of complex and insane.

I ask you to consider how long you have played (and learned) MMOs ever. Now consider the skill level you had - as a player - at two weeks in on your first MMO ever.

As a designer - ESO has to take into account players like me and players like you. Sounds to me like that's never going to be easy.

So for me, a year in, I'm finding that when I group with people who have similar player skill levels to mine (which I am lucky enough to do on a regular basis) I find that as a well-synergized group we are at that unfortunate balance between feeling that non-vet undaunted are pretty easy. Most group delves in the world are a cakewalk.

And even the "easiest seeming" vet pledge gets us wiped. Humiliatingly quickly.

There is a bump on the learning curve of maximize build, deal with the "timers" that produce ungodly amounts of adds, and just ... habitual skill; that we have not .... quite ... reached. I suspect you passed that choke point long ago, possibly even before you came here.

Folks like Sypher - well when I watch his videos, he's so good that I literally don't even understand most of what he's doing and I'm looking right at it. Deltia's a little better because he'll talk about the mechanics and the stuff he's doing - but lots of it is lost on me.

I get that you miss the "oh-god-I'm-gonna-die" rush of adrenaline. And I also get that you will never have it again in quite the same way. Well said. Some of the mechanics in this game are somewhat similar to World of Warcraft. Number keys for attacks. The only difference being you have A LOT more freedom in this game, which I love. I mastered WoW a long time ago so this feels quite familiar in some ways.

What would make this game whole is a difficulty bar, if they could some how implement that in, it would make a lot of players happy, as I'm not the first to complain about the difficulty being to easy. This way they can cater to everyone's needs and play style. I can imagine the coding would be somewhat of a nightmare in an MMO, just a thought, though.

I'm 41 now so rather close to end game, I have to ask as I'm not 100% sure what to expect here. I know you start in one of the opposing faction's zones after Molag Bal, but do you loose all your skills and LITERALLY start from scratch? And all the skill points you've accumulated over your original zone? This worries me as starting everything from scratch after putting in all that time and effort..
I made the mistake of making other toons on each faction, not knowing the end was how it was. So repeating them all over again, and losing everything I've built.. I don't think my attention span would allow it.

Thanks for the reply mate, was a pleasure to read.

No, @James2914 you don't literally start from scratch, as everything is vet level; but on the other hand, with no acknowledgement that the world was saved, it's kind of annoying as well.

On the other hand, just when I was most frustrated, I found this thread - which did a lot to make me sit back and enjoy things more.

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

What's Cadwell's silver and gold? Is this more towards end game?

I would shout at you for spoiling the end game for me, but I should thank you for saving me the disappointment I'd feel when I actually get there.

^^That is almost worth a sig. lol

But why is this even a forum topic on an MMO in the first place?

If it was a single player game I could understand, but this is a MMO for god sakes! There should not be a feeling of " well that was fun.. now its over in ANY MMO.!!

    ZOS.....!! FIX THIS PROBLEM :'(

    " I'm Level 33... "

P.S If you are getting owned in PvP then join the Non-Veteran campaign, only level 1 - 50 players so you won;t get killed by max level players.

    :)

    No one has answered this.

I pains me the same way.

To start in the non-vet zone, or any zone you get an invite to go to PvP land at level 10... so I did with my worst toon, for my first attempt(my best toon is in different Alliance), so now I'm stuck in the non-vet zone and want to get out so my best toon can get in....

    HELLLPPP.

Little explanation of the zones and being forced to stay in your first choice, and locking out your other alliances would have been helpful.
